Wu Yiming was lost in thought, which Liu Jiangqing perceived as him being stunned.
He thought to himself that perhaps Miss Wu was frightened by him; he had been too blunt.
"Miss Wu?"
Miss Wu quickly came to her senses and said, "Since you've said that, I might as well give you the truth. I don't have many requirements for my future husband. I don't care if he's incompetent or not. The only requirements are that he can't confine me to the inner quarters and that he can't take concubines. If you agree to these two things, I have no objection to this marriage."
Although Wu Yiming knew that Liu Jiangqing was a scholar, and in her impression, most scholars were somewhat pedantic, Liu Jiangqing still left a good impression on her. After all, he had come to see her before, so she figured he wouldn't look down on merchants.
Liu Jiangqing had no objection to Wu Yiming's words.
“I agree. Then… I’ll go back and have my mother make some preparations, and then I’ll go to your house to propose marriage.”
Wu Yiming thought of Consort Fucha and what she had said before she left that her marriage would be handled by the Fucha family. He said, "There's no rush. Marriage is a major event that should be decided by parents and matchmakers. It should be handled by the elders in the family. I will explain to the elders later, and then let them make the decision."
Wu Yiming lived alone, and Liu Jiangqing had assumed she didn't have any elders in her family. He was surprised to learn that she did. Upon hearing this, he said, "That's to be expected."
Wu Yiming suddenly thought of something: if she went into business after marriage, would Liu Jiangqing's family have any objections?
"Why don't you discuss this with your elders first? After all, I know that educated families don't want their women to show their faces in public, as they feel it's undignified and a disgrace to the family."
Liu Jiangqing wanted to say no, but he really wasn't sure what his parents thought.
Wu Yiming: "You should greet them first, so that we don't end up becoming enemies instead of getting married."
Wu Yiming spoke with composure, after all, she had the confidence and the support of the Emperor and Empress. If Liu Jiangqing really did something he shouldn't have done, she had plenty of ways to get a divorce.
She's not the kind of person who would compromise or be subservient.
Liu Jiangqing: "I will talk to my parents at home."
Wu Yiming had said everything she needed to say, and with nothing more to add, she got up to leave.
Although Liu Jiangqing was reluctant, she knew that since neither of them was married, it was against the rules for them to meet in private, so she parted ways with Wu Yiming.
The two parted ways; Liu Jiangqing went home, while Wu Yiming went to the department store.
