"What's wrong with Prince?" Xueying asked.
The young eunuch looked at Xueying with surprise, unsure whether to speak or not.
"Tell me quickly! Why didn't Prince sleep well?" Xueying said anxiously.
"It was in the middle of the night that you were summoned by A'luo, the maidservant of the concubine, who said you had a fever. She even took the prince's blanket from him. The prince was so cold at night that he had to squeeze into my room," the little eunuch said.
"Are you telling the truth?" Xueying stepped forward and pressed the little eunuch for an answer.
The young eunuch never expected that Xueying would be completely unaware of this.
"It's true, the concubine had a fever last night. The prince was very worried. He took his blanket over to her," the little eunuch repeated.
Xueying paused for a moment, then waved her hand, dismissing the little eunuch.
Hongli actually gave himself his own blanket!
Xueying stood there, a voice in her heart repeating the same sentence over and over again!
"A-Luo, A-Luo!"
Xueying, disregarding the need to fetch water, ran back, climbed onto the carriage, and forcefully pushed the fast-sleeping A'luo.
"Um, Princess, let me sleep for a while," A'Luo mumbled, her eyelids still closed.
"A'Luo, wake up! Was it Prince Beilang who came last night?" Xueying kept shaking A'Luo, but A'Luo just wouldn't wake up.
"Princess, you had a fever last night, so I went to call Prince Beile to come and help you." Although A'Luo refused to open her eyes, she heard Xueying's question and answered with her eyes closed.
"He even gave me his blanket?" Xueying asked.
“Yes, I was going to suggest that he squeeze in with Master, but Prince ignored me and left.” A’Luo chewed a couple of times, turned over, and went back to sleep.
As the sun gradually rises, and the morning rays pierce through the clouds and treetops, the entire campsite comes alive with activity.
The kitchen staff had already started preparing breakfast, and the soldiers who had gotten up were fetching water to wash up.
Xueying arrived at Hongli's carriage and saw that the carriage curtain had not moved. She assumed that the person inside must not have slept well last night, so he was still asleep like A'luo.
Xueying held the blanket in her arms, hesitating and not daring to make a sound.
"What are you doing standing here?" Hongli asked from behind Xueying, who was standing in front of his carriage. He had just taken a stroll in the kitchen; in fact, Hongli had been up for quite some time.
"I...I've come to return your blanket," Xueying said nervously.
"All done?" Hongli took the blanket and walked past Xueying.
"I made sure you didn't sleep well last night," Xueying said.
“You’re sick, and I was worried you’d slow us down. We’ll be setting off after breakfast. If you’re still sick, I’ll definitely have to treat you. So you don’t need to thank me,” Hongli said, his back to Xueying.
Xueying looked at Hongli's back in surprise, thought for a moment, and then turned and left.
When A'Luo woke up, Xueying had already brought back breakfast. The two, mistress and servant, ate breakfast in silence.
"Princess, what's wrong?" A'luo asked, even though she had already told her master.
"It's nothing, you eat quickly, we'll be on our way soon," Xueying said.
“Master, the Prince was quite worried about you last night,” A'luo added.
"Shut up and eat your steamed bun. How do you know if he's nervous or not? You're not a mind reader," Xueying said, rolling her eyes at A'luo.
“He was holding his master in his arms when I fed him the medicine,” A Luo said.
