Chapter 16 The Demon Pill Stepfather 16
Zhang Fengning knew from Zhou Qing's words that Zhou Qing resented her.
"The Ji family has no blood relation to you. How can you do this to your father and me?"
Zhou Qing looked at her expressionlessly: "You said it yourself, I have no blood relation with the Ji family."
Zhang Fengning tugged at her twice: "Did they tell you something? You believe everything people say? How can you be so brainless?"
"I don't need anyone to tell me anything, all I see is that you abandoned me."
Zhou Qing's throat tightened: "You left quietly before, and what you just said is all because you don't want to support me."
"You think I'm a burden, a drag on your life."
Zhang Fengning said somewhat angrily, "Do you think they would be nice to you for no reason?"
"They just want you to support Ji Huaizhi in his old age."
"Of course I know there's no such thing as a free lunch," Zhou Qing said, tears streaming down her face. "Even my own mother would abandon me, let alone someone I have no blood relation to."
"But they did it better than you."
"I know you've had a tough time, but that doesn't mean I can be completely unperturbed when you abandon me."
"Besides, they raised me, so what's wrong with me taking care of them in their old age?"
Zhang Fengning hadn't expected her daughter to be so stubborn, and hearing her words made her heart sink.
"Whatever you want, just don't regret it."
“I know you resent me now, but there’s nothing I can do. You can stay at the Ji family’s place for now. I’ll come back to pick you up after I have a child with your Uncle Lin, or when you’re older.” Zhang Fengning repeated her thoughts.
"You'll understand my good intentions when you grow up."
Zhou Qing suddenly felt that she couldn't explain things to her.
She's not a child anymore.
"What are your ulterior motives? You just don't want to take responsibility, you don't want to raise me, you're just leaving me to be raised by someone else, and then you'll come back to be a good mother when I grow up." Zhou Qing's eyes were filled with pain.
Only those who have been abandoned know that feeling.
"Is that right, Mom?"
Zhou Qing jogged back.
Zhang Fengning also felt uneasy.
Watching her daughter's retreating figure, she muttered, "Stubborn and inflexible."
"Once you grow up and come with me, you won't have to worry about the Ji family's mess anymore. Having someone like Ji Huaizhi as your father is like a bottomless pit."
Taking a deep breath, Zhang Fengning composed herself and walked towards Lin Kaihui.
"Let's go, I've said everything."
Lin Kaihui also saw Zhou Qing's retreating figure: "Are you really alright? She's not related to the Ji family by blood, and your ex-husband is that kind of person, I feel..."
"Let's go, you have no objections if I take her back?"
Lin Kaihui shut his mouth.
Zhou Qing officially changed his name to Ji Zhouqing.
After changing their names, Ji Zhouqing and Ji Dapeng now enjoy the same treatment.
When Ji Huaizhi returned from outside, he would sometimes mutter a few words about his daughter.
With this change, Ji Zhouqing's initial awkwardness and guilt about changing her name disappeared.
Ji Huaizhi and a few of his cronies have recently become obsessed with fishing. They spend all day or even all night outside, and every time they come back, they bring back either shrimp or fish.
Although it's still a bit unreliable, fishing is much better than playing cards or fighting.
Even if you eat this fish all the time, you'll get tired of it.
In the end, Ji Huaizhi carried a large tank filled with oxygen and sold the fish cheaply in the neighborhood, earning a little money for cigarettes.
Sometimes, Ji Huaizhi would give the money from the sales to Zhou Qing.
Ji Dapeng and Zhou Qing got along quite well. At least when Yang Xiangui said some harsh things, Ji Dapeng would stop him, and sometimes he would buy something for Zhou Qing when he went shopping.
Ji Huaizhi did not frighten the child any further in response to his behavior.
Sometimes I would even ask him to run errands for me.
In the blink of an eye, Zhou Qing was admitted to the local key high school. Perhaps because life was more comfortable than in her previous life, she performed better in this high school entrance examination than in her previous life.
Mr. and Mrs. Ji were also happy and told them to come back early so they could go out to eat together.
Yang Xiangui and Ji Huaisheng did not look happy when they arrived.
"Isn't Ji Huaizhi coming?" Ji Huaisheng asked after sitting for a while and seeing that no one had arrived.
"Why isn't his daughter here, given how well she did on the exam? She's already on her way," Mrs. Ji replied.
They ate at a restaurant near the community, which was very popular with local residents.
Upon hearing Ji's mother's words, Yang Xiangui scoffed, thinking to himself that she really considered her a member of the Ji family.
But no one spoke up because these things had been argued about enough, and everyone was tired of it after a while.
"Why are you only arriving now?" Ji's father asked, noticing that Ji Huaizhi was still carrying a styrofoam box and had a cigarette dangling from his mouth.
“Dad.” Zhou Qing moved to the side.
"Bald Uncle sent me some things. These things can't be kept overnight, otherwise it would be a waste." Ji Huaizhi then looked at Zhou Qing: "Last time, your Bald Uncle saw that you liked to eat hairy crabs, so he specially asked a friend to send you some sea crabs to try."
"Crabs?" Ji's mother leaned closer to take a look.
Ji Dapeng also curiously came over to take a look.
Yang Xiangui rolled his eyes and muttered under his breath, "What's there to brag about?"
"Wow, this crab is huge!" Zhou Qing's eyes lit up. "Is it tasty?"
"I don't know, let's ask the boss to process it and let us try it." Ji Huaizhi called the boss over.
The owner can process them, but there will be an extra charge: "These are swimming crabs, and they're plump and ready for harvest this season."
"Let's cook them all, half steamed and half spicy."
Boss: "Let's dry-roast it. That's how people eat it over by the sea."
Ji Huaizhi nodded: "Then make whatever you like, as long as it tastes good."
Then I asked the waiter to bring up a bottle of wine.
Ji Dapeng and Zhou Qing exchanged a glance, excited at the thought of eating fresh crabs later.
"Zhou Qing, have you ever eaten this crab?" Ji Dapeng asked.
"No, I've only ever eaten hairy crabs with my dad."
