In the early morning, Lin Han slowly woke up from her sleep.
"Awake?" Wei Yuchen asked, feeling the person leaning on his shoulder move.
Lin Han then realized that she had been sleeping against Wei Yuchen all night, and quickly lifted her head off his shoulder.
"Why didn't you wake me up? Your shoulder is all night. Are you okay?" Lin Han asked Wei Yuchen.
Wei Yuchen was surprised that Lin Han's first reaction after waking up was to care about him, and a warm feeling welled up in his heart.
He looked at Lin Han, smiled and shook his head to indicate that he was fine, then got up and prepared to go to the river to catch fish.
"Don't move. You must have suffered a lot of internal injuries from falling from such a height. I still know how to catch fish." Lin Han quickly held him down and ran to the river ahead to catch fish.
She took off her shoes and socks, lifted her skirt slightly, and began catching fish in the river.
"Do you want to turn around and see just how red Wei Yuchen's face is?" Xiao Meng wanted to laugh when she saw Wei Yuchen's face turn bright red when he saw Lin Han's little feet and calves.
"Oh dear, I forgot about the current era, but it's okay, special times call for special measures." Based on Xiao Meng's description, Lin Han could imagine just how red Wei Yu Chen's face must be.
Wei Yucheng, the subject of the discussion, felt that he was being extremely ungentlemanly, having inadvertently stole glances at Lin Han's jade-like feet.
Wei Yuchen inwardly berated himself before turning his head completely to the side, refusing to look at Lin Han's legs.
Before long, Lin Han caught two or three fish, put them in the robe she had taken from Wei Yuchen, let her feet dry, put on shoes and socks, and then walked towards him.
"Hey, the great task of grilling fish is now entrusted to you." Lin Han handed the robe to Wei Yuchen, then sat down beside him and quietly waited to eat.
Because of what happened at the beginning, Wei Yuchen didn't dare to look at Lin Han. He took the food haphazardly, cleaned the internal organs, and started grilling it.
Before long, several fragrant grilled fish were ready, retaining their original flavor. Lin Han's mouth watered just from the smell.
"Eat quickly, be careful it's hot." Wei Yuchen handed over a grilled fish and thoughtfully reminded him.
Lin Han whispered a thank you and took it, slowly enjoying it.
After more than ten hours, Lin Han finally got to eat, and she felt incredibly happy.
Seeing Lin Han eating so heartily, Wei Yuchen was also very happy and picked up a piece to eat with relish.
After they had both eaten their fill, Wei Yucheng looked around and decided to continue walking down the river, hoping to encounter farmers along the way.
Lin Han also agreed with Wei Yucheng's point of view, helped him up from the ground, and then helped him slowly walk downstream.
"So this is what the outside world is like." Lin Han had been trapped inside the palace walls for so long that she had almost forgotten what the outside world was like.
Seeing Lin Han's longing expression, Wei Yucheng felt quite uneasy.
Feeling sorry for her?
Wei Yucheng sensitively discovered that the source of this feeling actually came from the depths of her heart—the feeling of heartache for her.
"Why aren't you saying anything? Is your wound hurting?" Lin Han turned to look at Wei Yuchen when she saw that he was not speaking, and their eyes met.
At this moment, Wei Yucheng felt as if a feeling of liking was spreading in her heart.
"Hey! What are you daydreaming about?" Lin Han raised her hand, waved it in front of Wei Yuchen's eyes a few times, and called out to him.
In an instant, Wei Yuchen came back to his senses and looked at Lin Han in front of him, finding her to be so vivid and interesting for the first time.
"It's alright, let's keep going. Hopefully we'll meet them before dark." Wei Yuchen didn't directly answer Lin Han's question, but just looked ahead and said with a very happy mood.
Lin Han didn't understand why his spirits had suddenly soared, but seeing how energetic he was, it proved that his injuries were recovering well, so Lin Han naturally became happy as well.
"Wei Yuchen, let me tell you, last time I went to Consort Hua's palace..." Lin Han started talking to Wei Yuchen about things that she usually only knew herself.
"Really? Then you're quite the little rascal."
…
Along the way, the two chatted about the mountains and rivers, folk tales, and palace secrets. In any case, Wei Yuchen listened patiently to Lin Han's sharing and would occasionally chime in.
And so, the originally lonely road became so warm because of each other's company.
