Chapter 46 The educated youth sent to the countryside in their 45th year

At this moment, Su Yao slowly woke up. Her eyes were confused and panicked as she looked around, seemingly searching for something. When she saw Zhao Yu, her heart was filled with complex emotions. She was grateful for everything Zhao Yu had done for her, but at the same time, she was afraid of what might happen next.

Her hands gripped the hem of her clothes tightly, twisting them incessantly, as if to gain some sense of security. Her body continued to tremble; she knew this matter had escalated far beyond what she was currently facing, and she might face unprecedented trouble. Her heart was filled with fear and anxiety; she didn't know what to do.

Zhao Yu breathed a sigh of relief when he saw Su Yao wake up, but his face still showed concern as he asked softly, "Su Yao, how are you feeling?"

Su Yao answered weakly, "I...I'm still very scared." Her eyes were filled with helplessness.

Zhao Yu comforted him, "Don't be afraid, the doctor said you're fine, you'll get better with some rest."

Su Yao bit her lip, a hint of guilt flashing in her eyes: "Zhao Yu, I'm sorry for causing you trouble this time, I..."

Zhao Yu interrupted her, "Don't think about it too much, focus on getting better first."

Just then, Liu Cui walked in. She glanced at Su Yao with a hint of dissatisfaction in her eyes, but still said, "The person has woken up, that's good."

Su Yao lowered her head awkwardly, not daring to look Liu Cui in the eye.

Zhao Yu said to Liu Cui, "Liu Cui, thank you for helping to take care of Su Yao."

Liu Cui snorted, "I only helped her because I felt sorry for her." With that, she turned and left the room.

Zhao Yu looked at Su Yao, who had a tense expression, his brows furrowed tightly, his eyes filled with doubt and worry. He asked in a slightly anxious tone, "Su Yao, what happened? Tell me!" Su Yao's eyes flickered, her gaze wandering around, but she dared not meet Zhao Yu's eyes. Her lips were tightly closed, as if bound by an invisible force, and she dared not utter a single word.

Just then, a loud and cheerful voice called out from outside the door: "Is Su Yao, the educated youth, here?" The voice was extremely penetrating, echoing in the air. Zhao Yu frowned, his doubts growing stronger. He slowly got up and walked towards the door.

A plump middle-aged woman stood in the doorway, her face plastered with an exaggerated smile that looked like a mask forced open, appearing particularly stiff. She wore a brightly colored but somewhat tacky floral blouse, its intricate patterns almost dazzling. Her hair was casually pulled back, with a few strands falling loose and swaying slightly with her movements.

Zhao Yu's eyes held a hint of wariness as he asked suspiciously, "Who are you?" The woman ignored his question, simply stepping aside to walk past him and hurried into the house, shouting loudly, "Su Yao, Su Zhiqing!" Her obese body squeezed and weaved through the narrow passageway like an out-of-control ball of flesh.

Zhao Yu shook his head helplessly and could only follow her into the house. The moment the aunt saw Su Yao lying on the bed, her eyes lit up like two little light bulbs, her excitement burning like a flame. She raised her voice and said, "Great news! Great news! I'm Wang Qiang's mother, here to arrange a marriage between you and Wang Qiang!"

Wang Qiang, that young man, is one in a hundred! Look at him, he's as strong as an ox, and his strength is enough to lift a mountain. Farm work is no problem for him. Although his family isn't extremely wealthy, they're certainly well-off, so I guarantee you won't go hungry or cold if you marry into their family.

Moreover, this child is kind-hearted, extremely filial to his elders, and loyal to his friends.

“Su, you’re so educated youth! Look at this! If you marry Wang Qiang, you’ll be blessed with endless happiness! You’re from the city, your family is well-off, and you’re beautiful. If Wang Qiang can marry you, he’ll be so lucky! Won’t your family help him find a good job in the city?”

"When Wang Qiang becomes successful, you'll benefit from it too! And your family will definitely give you a generous dowry—it's a rare treat!" the auntie said excitedly, her fat face jiggling with each word, her eyes revealing greed and calculation.

Upon hearing this, Su Yao's face drained of color instantly, turning as pale as paper. Her eyes widened, filled with terror and disbelief. Her lips trembled, and her voice carried a hint of despair as she said, "What? Wang Qiang? How is this possible!" Her body trembled uncontrollably, as if she were in a frozen wasteland.

Zhao Yu was also shocked. He could hardly believe his ears and couldn't help but sigh inwardly, "Wang Qiang really dares to think like that! Doesn't he even know his own limitations? With his good-for-nothing character, who in the village wouldn't look down on him?" Then, his face instantly darkened, and anger burned like flames in his eyes. He pointed to the door and said sternly to the woman, "Get out! You're not welcome here! We will absolutely not agree to this absurd marriage!"

The older woman seemed to still want to try and persuade him, opening her mouth as if to continue. But Zhao Yu didn't give her the chance. He grabbed her arm without hesitation, shoving her towards the door, and said firmly, "Don't waste your breath here, just get out!"

Just then, Liu Cui heard the commotion inside and rushed over. When she learned that Wang Qiang had sent a matchmaker to propose marriage, her mouth gaped open wide enough to fit an egg. She shook her head incredulously and raised her voice, saying, "Wang Qiang? How dare he propose marriage? Doesn't he realize what he's done? He still dares to make such a suggestion! With his reputation as a scoundrel, what decent girl would want to marry him!"
