After watching the two children walk hand in hand into the kindergarten, Mu's father rushed off to work, and on the way, he found someone to frame Xiaoxi's painting.
That evening, when Mu's mother saw Mu's father placing the painting on the bedside table and looking at it with great reverence, she covered her mouth and chuckled. This man had been so calm just yesterday.
Since discovering Mu Wenxi's special qualities, the teacher has paid more attention to her. She found that Mu Wenxi had little interest in many things, especially studying, except for Wen Nanyin and food.
When playing with Wen Nanyin, Mu Wenxi's eyes shone brightly. When facing delicious food, Mu Wenxi's eyes were focused. Most of the time, however, he had a lazy, sleepy look in his eyes.
So when playing games, the teacher often paired the two together, which resulted in them spending more time together. Mu Wenxi couldn't wait to be with Nan Yin.
However, Nan Yin is too gentle and is sometimes bullied by her classmates. At these times, Mu Wenxi becomes her protector.
That day, she was looking out the window listlessly. Wen Nanyin, who was beside her, was nowhere to be found. She lifted her princess dress and took small steps outside, looking around for him.
Mu Wenxi was stunned to find the chubby boy in the class, Fatty, fighting with Nan Yin at a corner. He never expected that someone as gentle as Wen Nan Yin would get into a fight.
Mu Wenxi immediately rushed over to stop the two: "No fighting allowed."
Her voice was completely ignored by the two people who were focused on fighting. They were still wrestling when they saw Wen Nanyin being punched by the chubby boy and forced to take a few steps back.
Mu Wenxi finally couldn't resist going over and nudging the chubby boy with her head, while she and Wen Nanyin swung their arms wildly and started hitting the little fat kid together. (This is not meant to discriminate against chubby kids; we genuinely love chubby children.)
When the teacher arrived and roared, "Stop fighting!" the three children were finally separated. Mu Wenxi was unharmed, Wen Nanyin had several scratches on his nose and hands, and the most serious was the little chubby boy, whose two chubby arms had several scratches, clearly made by Mu Wenxi with his fingernails.
After the teacher learned the truth, she called the parents to resolve the issue. When Mu's mother and Wen's mother arrived at the school, the three little ones were standing in the corner looking very aggrieved.
Mu Wenxi's princess-style hair, tied up by her mother, was a mess, her braids were undone, and her shoes were dirty from being stepped on. Next to her, Wen Nanyin's nose had a piece of skin torn off.
Soon, the chubby boy's mother arrived at the school. Seeing his face covered in bruises, she was heartbroken: "Son, what happened to your face? Teacher, what happened?"
The teacher explained to the three parents: "Originally, it was two children fighting, and Mu Wenxi saw them fighting and joined in."
Wen's mother: "Why did the children fight?"
Just as the teacher was about to explain, the chubby boy next to her spoke up with a wronged look: "They both hit me."
Wen Nanyin was a little anxious and wanted to explain but didn't know how to start. Mu Wenxi glared at the chubby boy: "That's because you bullied Nanyin first. You're so big."
The chubby boy burst into tears: "Waaah..."
The chubby boy's mother was at a loss for words, looking at the cute little girl and boy in front of her and then at her own aggrieved son, wanting to get angry but unable to.
Teacher: "Fatty, why are you bullying Nan Yin?"
Fatty stammered for a long time without saying anything, and seemed to know he was wrong, so he lowered his head. When Fatty's mother saw him like this, she understood everything.
The teacher then asked Nan Yin, "Why did Nan Yin bully you?"
Wen's mother patted Nan Yin's head to encourage him to tell the truth. Wen Nan Yin raised his bruised face and said, "He said bad things about Sister Xi. I asked him to apologize, but he refused, so I hit him."
Teacher: "Fatty, is Nan Yin right?"
Fatty nodded and snuggled into his mother's arms: "Yes, I'm sorry."
The teacher turned to the mothers and said, "That's how it is. I suggest you resolve this privately."
Mu Ma whispered in Wen Ma's ear: "Xi Xi is fine, it's Nan Yin who's the problem."
Looking at the chubby boy crying with snot and tears streaming down his face, and knowing he was also a little injured, Wen's mother couldn't bear to scold him: "It's alright, it's normal for kids to fight and play around. I just hope they won't bully Xiaoxi and Nanyin next time."
Knowing she was in the wrong, the chubby boy's mother nodded and apologized to them. She then grabbed her son and headed for the door, seemingly wanting to teach him a lesson.
The two parents also took their children home. As they walked out of the kindergarten, Mu's mother secretly praised Mu Wenxi: "Well done, but you can't do that again next time."
Mu Wenxi: "I know, but if anyone bullies Nan Yin again, I will still help him."
Mother Shepherd: "That's because Fatty didn't hit you. What if someone else hits you next time?"
Wen's mom: "Exactly, usually the boys are the ones standing in front, but your Xiaoxi is the opposite. She's acting like a big sister, hahaha."
Mother Shepherd: "Let's go, see you tomorrow."
Wen Nanyin looked back at Mu Wenxi with some reluctance. Wen's mother said, "Alright, you have to go to school tomorrow. Let's go back and apply some medicine for you today."
Mu Wenxi waved to greet Nan Yin, who kept turning back to look at her, making Wen Ma laugh.
To thank Wen Xi for standing up for him, Nan Yin brought some treats from home. During the break, Nan Yin secretly took out a chocolate from his bag and put it in Wen Xi's drawer: "Here, have some. Thank you for helping me yesterday."
Mu Wenxi accepted the chocolate and patted his chest: "You're welcome. I didn't help you much yesterday."
The two little ones smiled at each other.
On Saturday, the day of his extracurricular class, Wen's mother woke up the sleepy-eyed Wen Nanyin at six o'clock in the morning and took him to catch the earliest bus.
The bus was crowded and there were no seats, so Wen's mother had to stand with Nan Yin. They rode for more than ten stops to reach the Children's Palace in the city center to attend a Latin dance class.
Among all the students, Nan Yin was the youngest, but he had already studied in his hometown for a year and had some basic knowledge. He stood quietly in the corner, but because of his small stature, he was still noticed by the teacher, who asked him to come forward and stand in the first row.
Although Wen Nanyin was a little shy, he listened very attentively. He couldn't waste his parents' hard-earned money; he wanted to study hard and make something of himself in the future to repay his family.
Although he was small in stature, he was very serious and his movements were very standard. The teacher gradually noticed this little bean and was amazed by his focused look. He grew to like this child more and more.
After class ended around 10 a.m., Wen's mother and Wen Nanyin quickly finished lunch and rushed to their calligraphy classes in the morning and afternoon. Mu Wenxi had just arrived at the calligraphy classroom as well. The two friends were very happy to meet and started whispering and sharing their stories.
Calligraphy is an art that prefers tranquility. The two little ones, who could barely hold a brush, began practicing calligraphy with great enthusiasm. Meanwhile, Mu's mom and Wen's mom chatted and shared their daily lives in the parents' lounge outside.
