Chapter 43 Reborn as a Dragon in the Zombie World (Part Fourteen)

"Hehehehehe~!" The scientist laughed strangely: "No... humanity's hope is gone... the antibodies are gone... everything's destroyed... destroyed... all our hard work... all our hard work... gone..."

"Gone...gone? What do you mean it's destroyed? Didn't they say the J virus antibody was developed? How...how could it be gone?!" Po couldn't help but tremble. He looked at the group of scientists and researchers around him who had just seemed so repulsive, and shouted, "How could it be gone?! That thing...that thing should...be protected properly, shouldn't it?!"

No one answered him. These researchers, who had been working tirelessly to develop the antibody, were all staring blankly at the wide-open research room.

Inside, the room was a scene of utter chaos. Various research vials and jars were shattered, glass bottles, glassware, and various chemicals were mixed together, emitting a foul and strange odor. Some liquids churned and smoked after mixing, some burned slowly, and others exploded with a loud bang. Ashes from burned documents littered the control room. The few precious computers containing data on the J virus antibody were completely smashed, from the mainframes to the hard drives and monitors.

Several researchers, their hands trembling, desperately tried to salvage the remaining documents in the lab, ignoring the holes burned into their hands by the chemicals scattered on the floor. Dr. Xu's shoes were even almost burned through.

But even when those things were salvaged, they were just scraps of paper with a few words on them...

Gone... Completely destroyed...

Humanity's hope...

"You... wait, what's wrong with you?!" Camer's face changed. The scientist who had been laughing strangely slowly pulled out a gun from his body and pulled back the bolt while chuckling.

"Calm down!" Mu Chunfeng subconsciously reached out to protect the others behind him. A thin layer of flames ignited on his arms, ready to form a fire shield at any time.

Long Xun stared blankly at the mess on the ground. He felt as if something was gripping his throat tightly, making it dry and constricted, as if he dared not even breathe loudly.

"How...could that be..." Hilla's perfect face, which always lacked a certain vitality, now showed a confused expression due to a conflict in the program's calculations.

"Isn't this humanity's hope? Why...why would anyone want to destroy it?"

How could humanity destroy its own hope? Why is that?

She didn't understand, didn't comprehend, and couldn't fathom why humans would do such terrible things.

Even though some people were still wailing, some were laughing and crying, and some were cursing madly, the stagnant atmosphere made everyone feel as if there was no sound at all.

The world seemed to become eerily silent in an instant.

Po leaned blankly against the wall, staring blankly into the distance. An indescribable feeling made him too weak to even cry.

"Why...why is this happening..."

He held all his hope in his hands. Just moments ago, he was agonizing over whether or not to go and die to end the apocalypse, but now... in just ten minutes, he's back to square one?

The gunshot rang out, a sound that should have been deafening and terrifying, but at this moment, it seemed to become incredibly distant to everyone.

Many people don't even have the strength to look back.

Only Kamo and Mu Chunfeng saw what happened.

The scientist who pulled out the gun muttered to himself and chuckled as he swallowed the muzzle. By the time Cameron and Mu Chunfeng reacted and tried to stop him, he had already fired.

Blood splattered onto the corridor from the back of his head, along with white brain matter.

Mu Chunfeng stared blankly as his body slowly collapsed. He still remembered how spirited, determined, and passionate this outstanding researcher was when he first came to the base, and he also remembered the envious yet eager look in his eyes whenever he looked at the superhumans.

He...committed suicide?

In the research room, Dr. Xu stared blankly at the fragments of data in his hand, giving up on doing useless work.

He was just a middle-aged man, but in an instant he looked decades older, with even a hint of silver showing through his jet-black hair.

Suddenly, a voice rang out from the crowd: "It's Po... that zombie! It must be him! He's taking revenge on us... he wants to turn all humans into zombies!"

No one could tell where the sound came from, and the scientists, who were filled with despair and didn't even know who to hate, seemed to be injected with life in an instant, like puppets suddenly coming to life with a soul.

They shouted excitedly, "It's him!! It must be him!"

"If it weren't for zombies, how could they possibly destroy humanity's hope!"

"He doesn't want the zombies to be wiped out!"

"And that Long Xun... he's not human either! Otherwise, why would he be so protective of Po!"

"What savior nonsense! Hahahaha, they're all liars! They're trying to destroy humanity!"

"The creatures that dragon usually keeps by its side are not human; I should have realized it sooner..."

...

Long Xun listened quietly to their insults, taking all the unfounded speculations and vicious curses at his head without saying a word in rebuttal.

They had simply endured despair beyond their limits, and could only channel the unbearable part into hatred for the 'murderer,' but at that moment they did not know who the 'murderer' was.

So... the only way to vent this anger is to randomly pick someone to criticize, insult, and attack.
