Chapter 156 School Starts (1/2)

Three days have passed since Gu Moting and Xiao Xue's wedding. It's said that Gu Moli returned to his unit the day after the wedding. That day, Gu Moli picked up a wine glass and drank three cups in a row, leaving everyone at the table in complete silence.

Everyone looked at each other, confused about what was going on. Because of his age, no one had ever seen the second son of the Gu family drink.

Gu Moting was also somewhat shocked; he had never seen Gu Moli drink alcohol. It was normal for him not to drink when he was a minor, and even after the two brothers met a few times after he became an adult, he had never seen Moli drink alcohol at the dinner table.

Su Xingran was unaware of what others were thinking; she simply felt that Gu Moli truly acted like an older brother, taking excellent care of and protecting her as his younger sister.

Today is Su Xingran's first day of university, and also Huang Zhenhua's first day at Peking University. Su Xingran went to Peking University to register yesterday, and also brought her luggage to her dormitory yesterday. She took a tour of the place where she will study and live for the next few years.

Su Xingran and Huang Zhenhua have agreed that they will live in the school dormitory during the school week and go home to stay on weekends or holidays.

The Department of Traditional Chinese Medicine at Peking University was established after the resumption of the National College Entrance Examination. Traditional Chinese medicine has been suppressed in recent years and is considered an unpopular major. Moreover, the program is a five-year program and there is only one class of students in the department.

The alarm rang in the morning, and Su Xingran got out of her bed in the dormitory to wash up. There were eight people living in the dormitory, all of whom were students from the same department.

The dormitory had bunk beds, and Su Xingran lived on the top bunk. She was a bit of a germaphobe and didn't like others sitting on her bed or touching her things. To avoid unnecessary trouble, she chose to sleep on the top bunk.

The dormitory does not have private bathrooms; you have to go to the communal washrooms and toilets on each floor to wash up and use the restrooms. To avoid crowds and wasting time, Su Xingran immediately got up as soon as the bell rang, grabbed her toiletries, and went to wash up.

Students who are admitted to universities after the resumption of the National College Entrance Examination (Gaokao) do not need to pay tuition or accommodation fees. The university will also provide a subsidy of about ten yuan per month, and students are responsible for their own food expenses.

Su Xingran didn't go to the cafeteria for breakfast. She ate some snacks prepared for her by her sisters-in-law and drank a glass of warm water. That was how she got through her first breakfast of the semester.

Because Su Xingran arrived at school early yesterday to register, found a bed in the dormitory, and left, she didn't return to the dormitory until just before closing time in the evening, so she missed getting to know her roommates.

Su Xingran went to the classroom and found a seat. There weren't many students in the class yet. Su Xingran heard from her master that there were about twenty-five students in one class in the Traditional Chinese Medicine department. They probably all chose this major because their families had TCM doctors studying with them.

When the bell rang for class, all the students were seated in their seats. A man who looked to be over fifty years old walked up to the teacher's podium.

"Good morning, students. I am your teacher, Gu Zhang. Now I will begin taking attendance. Students whose names are called, please stand up and respond."

Teacher Gu Zhang held up a list and began calling out names, "Guan Xiao."

"Here," a simply dressed, tall girl with braided pigtails stood up.

"Zhang Cheng," "Here," a thin boy in a white shirt stood up.

"Li Ming..." "Here..." Teacher Gu Zhang called out a name, and a student stood up to respond.

"Su Xingran," Su Xingran heard Teacher Gu Zhang call her name, and she stood up and replied, "Here."

Professor Gu Zhang had already read out all the student names on the roster, and all twenty-five students from the Department of Traditional Chinese Medicine were present.
