Su Xingran and Xiao Xue attended the same university, but they majored in different subjects; Xiao Xue was in Chinese Literature. Although they were in different departments, they shared the same dormitory floor. Su Xingran was in room 206, and Xiao Xue was in room 203.
After Xiao Xue and Gu Moting got married, Su Xingran also changed her way of addressing her. Before, she called Xiao Xue "sister," but now she calls her "sister-in-law Xiao Xue." The two of them often ate three meals a day together in the cafeteria, and the girls in their two dormitories all thought that the two of them were actually sisters-in-law.
A week went by quickly, and tomorrow is Saturday. Su Xingran and Xiao Xue don't have classes on Saturday and Sunday. They agreed to go home together after class in the afternoon.
Aside from the principal and Professor Gu Zhang, no one else at the school knew that Su Xingran and Huang Zhenhua were teacher and student. The Department of Traditional Chinese Medicine only had one class, and Huang Zhenhua currently spent most of his time working from home, only going to the school to teach courses or participate in class discussions.
Su Xingran told Huang Zhenhua that she would be going home with Xiao Xue on Friday to familiarize herself with the roads. Huang Zhenhua reminded her to be careful and to get home early. He understood that children need to be independent as they grow up.
After finishing their afternoon classes, Su Xingran and Xiao Xue went back to their dormitories and walked together through the school gate. "Sister-in-law Xiao Xue, let's take a walk around the neighborhood, and then we'll take a bus home later."
Su Xingran wanted to see what was nearby. It was still early, and she could take a walk around and go home before having dinner.
“Okay, let’s go for a walk and get to know the area. Your brother Mo Ting went back to the army yesterday, and he came to the school to see me the night before last. He mentioned that Mom and Dad are going to a banquet today and might be home late.”
Upon hearing this, Su Xingran said, "Sister-in-law Xiaoxue, why don't you come with me to Master's house for dinner tonight? It's close by anyway, and I'll ride my bicycle to take you home after dinner."
The two strolled around the neighborhood, discussing as they went. Completely unaware that danger was about to befall them.
"See those two women up ahead?" Two girls and four shady-looking men stood in a secluded corner. One of the girls pointed to two girls walking a short distance ahead and asked the four men.
“We see. We’ll do as you say. But remember, the rest of the money has to be given to us after it’s done,” one of the men said.
"Don't worry, I'm not short of money, and I won't miss your little bit of money. You just need to get things done." The girl said arrogantly.
The four men nodded and walked out of the corner to catch up with the two girls who were strolling ahead. "Siyun, let's get out of here quickly, lest someone see us."
"Zhu Yan, you're such a coward. What are you afraid of? They're just two country bumpkins. Who will care if something happens to them?"
"But...but that Xiao is Gu Moting's wife. If the Gu family finds out about this, it might be difficult to handle!"
"Don't worry, who would know it was us? Besides, if it weren't for that country bumpkin Xiao Xue who stole Brother Mo Ting away, my cousin wouldn't be so heartbroken."
"Even if they found out, so what? Our Zhou family and the Gu family have been friends for generations. Why would the Gu family hold a grudge against our Zhou family for a woman who just married into the family? At most, Brother Mo Ting will not want someone with the surname Xiao and will marry my cousin instead."
Zhou Yun spoke arrogantly, believing that her Zhou family was powerful and influential. She thought dealing with two people from the countryside would be a piece of cake.
As Su Xingran and Xiao Xue were talking, she suddenly felt something was wrong. It seemed like someone was following them. Su Xingran turned around casually and discovered that there were four men behind them.
