Zhou Sitao and Gu Moli had been brought over by their families for meals before, and later they would occasionally come over and became familiar with Uncle Zhang. Zhou Sitao and Uncle Zhang were quite familiar with each other because he worked in Beijing and often came over.
The two found a seat, ordered their food, and waited for it to be served. Gu Moli asked Zhou Sitao, "When you were at my house, you said you had something to tell me. What is it that's been bothering you?"

Gu Moli couldn't understand it. If they didn't even bother to get to know each other, then they were complete strangers. If they were strangers, then what was Zhou Sitao so conflicted about?

"I don't know the answers to these questions you're asking me. You're single and I'm single too. Go ask some married people. My brother isn't home, but if he were, he would definitely know."
The two bachelors eventually stopped talking about the topic and, having eaten and drunk their fill, chatted about other things. When it was almost time, they paid the bill, left, and went their separate ways home.
Gu Moli recalled Zhou Sitao's words and seemed to understand why he paid attention to Su Xingran, why his heart beat faster every time he saw her, why he carefully prepared a birthday gift for her, why he left her a letter before going on a mission, and why he thought of her in his spare time.
All of this was because Gu Moli had fallen in love with Su Xingran. When did he fall for her? Was it their first brief encounter in Su Family Village, their second meeting on the train, or perhaps their third meeting at his elder brother and sister-in-law's wedding...?
