Chapter 232 Leaving a Letter (1/2)

“Master, by the time you read this letter, your unfilial disciple Su Xingran will have already left Beijing in a military vehicle. Master, I have volunteered to go to the front lines of the upcoming battle. Xingran knows that Master also knows about this, please forgive Xingran for keeping it from you.”

“Master and Mistress were renowned military doctors during the War of Resistance Against Japan. As their disciple, I must not hold them back. Master, Xingran will be careful, so you don’t need to worry about me. You and Aunt Huang, please take care of yourselves and wait for my safe return. Xingran leaves.”

Huang Zhenhua wiped his face and shook his head helplessly. This child's personality is really similar to her teacher's wife's! Once she's made up her mind, no one can stop her; even if you try to stop her, she'll secretly carry it out.

Huang Zhenhua muttered to himself, "Qingxiao, you always said that if you had a daughter or a granddaughter, you hoped they would be like you. Look at this disciple I've taken in, doesn't she look like you? Isn't she the granddaughter you wanted? Qingxiao, please bless our disciple and granddaughter, and let her return safely!"

Seeing Huang Zhenhua like this, Huang Ma asked with some concern, "Zhenhua, where did Xingran go?"

Huang Zhenhua's voice sounded older than usual as he said, "It's alright, Xingran has gone to do what she needs to do. She won't be home for a while, and she told you to take care of yourself and not to worry about her."

Aunt Huang's lips moved slightly, finally settling into a sigh. She knew that Xingran had probably gone to do something dangerous; otherwise, why would Zhenhua sound so old? Xingran was still at home before 10 PM last night; she probably left in the middle of the night.

When Shen Qiu arrived at the clinic at the hospital, it was already past her shift start time, but Su Xingran still hadn't arrived. Shen Qiu found it a bit strange; Su Xingran had taken the day off yesterday, but not today, so she should have been there by now.

Another hour passed, and Shen Qiu still hadn't seen Su Xingran. She went out and asked Nurse Xiao Liu, "Xiao Liu, did you see Xingran come to work this morning?"

Nurse Xiaoliu said, "Director Shen, no, I didn't see Xingran come to work at the hospital this morning. I was wondering why! She usually arrives at work about ten minutes early, but I haven't seen her at all today."

Hearing what Nurse Xiao Liu said, Shen Qiu nodded without asking any further questions and turned to walk towards the examination room. When she reached the door, Shen Qiu suddenly stopped, her expression serious and suspicious.

Nurse Xiaoliu watched as Director Shen stopped at the door of the consultation room, then turned around and walked back outside.

Shen Qiu walked straight to the dean's office, much faster than usual. The door to the dean's office was open, and Shen Qiu walked in without even knocking.

The dean had been sitting at his desk, writing something with his head down. Hearing the noise, he looked up and saw Chen Qiu staring at him. The dean thought to himself, "So it's finally here."

The dean smiled and said, "Director Shen, what brings you here?"

Shen Qiu stared at the hospital director, making him feel uneasy and guilty. After a while, Shen Qiu finally spoke up, "Director, who is the doctor the hospital sent out this time?"

The hospital director conceded defeat under Shen Qiu's gaze; he knew he had no choice but to speak up now. Of the four doctors, only the one who went wasn't at the hospital—wasn't that obvious enough?

The dean spoke in a more formal tone than before: "Director Shen, this is Comrade Su Xingran from your department."

Shen Qiu's anxiety finally subsided. She recalled Su Xingran's behavior over the past week; it had been flawless. Su Xingran had intentionally kept it from her; Shen Qiu had never imagined it would be Su Xingran who went.
