Chapter Twenty: Yan Xiaonan Injured

With a moo from the old ox, Yan Xiaoqiang was overjoyed. He quickly cleaned up the feeding trough and left.

Around 1 p.m., we finally arrived at Cuihua's parents' home. Cuihua's parents were already waiting for us. Cuihua has parents, two older brothers and their wives, an older sister, a younger brother, and a younger sister.

My younger brother isn't married yet, but my older sister and younger sister have also come back with their husbands and children. Of course, my older brother and sister-in-law have also gone to my parents' home with their children.

The younger brother and Cuihua were best friends. When he saw Cuihua coming over, he rushed over to help pull the old ox into the yard.

Yan Xiaoqiang and Cuihua carried the meat and rice from the oxcart. Dongnan helped his grandmother off the oxcart; her legs were weak from sitting for so long.

Southwest helped Xuemei lift Nannan down. The little girl had already woken up and was looking around with wide eyes, full of wonder. It turned out that every village was different.

Only Bei Nan rushed to her grandmother, who loved her the most and always praised her for being clever and quick-witted.

Grandma Yan felt a pang of sadness watching this scene; she thought, "He really is a heartless person."

When Cuihua's mother saw Grandma Yan, she happily ran up to her: "Oh, my dear in-law, what brings you here?"

Grandma Yan joked, "What's wrong? You don't welcome me? Then I'll go back."

Cuihua's mother quickly grabbed Grandma Yan's arm and said, "Don't talk nonsense, we've been waiting for this for ages."

His eyes caught sight of such a large piece of meat, and a thought struck him. He asked, "My dear in-law, did you catch anything big this year?"

Grandma Yan nodded: "Yes, it's like God has sent meat to our little girl."

Speaking of their little girl, Cuihua's parents hadn't even met her yet. They quickly looked at the child in Xuemei's arms and exclaimed, "Oh my goodness, is your little aunt a fairy reincarnated? Look how delicate and tender she is!"

Grandma Yan smiled broadly, thinking to herself, "You were absolutely right."

Cuihua's father quickly welcomed her inside, worried that the little girl might catch a cold in the freezing weather.

Cuihua's older sister and younger sister also came out to greet her. Seeing Cuihua carrying so much food, they felt a little uncomfortable.

The older sister brought over ten pounds of cornmeal and twenty eggs. The younger sister almost only brought back ten pounds of cornmeal. It's not that she didn't want to take more, but she had to take it all out.

Despite the displeased expressions on her elder and younger sisters' faces, Cuihua didn't notice anything amiss and happily went up to greet them, after all, it had been almost two years since they last met.

The eldest sister was getting on in years, and besides, she was her own younger sister. It would put her mind at ease to bring some good food to her parents, so she suppressed her discomfort and warmly greeted them.

The younger sister was different. Being competitive to begin with, she couldn't swallow this insult. With a half-smile, she said sarcastically, "So it's Second Sister who's back. Did you bring all this stuff to make up for last year's?"

Cuihua was stunned. Even the most foolish person can distinguish between kindness and malice, and she immediately turned cold: "Little sister, I'm going back to my parents' home. It has nothing to do with you."

This younger sister has been competitive since she was a child. She felt that since they were all family, there was nothing to fight over, so she was generally tolerant.

Even after getting married and having children, she still can't change her ways and is incredibly annoying.

When Cuihua teased her like that, the younger sister immediately blurted out, "Yeah, but this is my parents' house too. How can it have nothing to do with me? We're all poor people. Is it meaningful for you to show off like this?"

Cuihua snapped, "Are you crazy? Sharing some food with my parents is considered showing off? If you're so eager to show off, what did you bring this time?"

The younger sister was suddenly choked and embarrassed, not knowing what to do. Her face turned red. The older sister saw this and quickly stepped in to smooth things over, saying that they were all family and should talk things out properly.

The brother-in-law was extremely embarrassed. He said that going back to his wife's parents' home on the second day of the Lunar New Year was just a way to see how well the husband could manage. His older sister had twenty more eggs than his own family.

I didn't even see my brother-in-law's smug face; twenty eggs were enough to knock me down. But then I saw what my second brother-in-law brought—it's so frustrating!

This slap in the face was truly brutal. A smart person would just laugh it off, but this shameless and brainless stupid woman actually walked right into it herself.

I really wanted to kick this woman in the back, but it was inconvenient to do so in my father-in-law's house. However, the hatred in my heart was clearly aroused, and it was too hurtful to my self-esteem.

My brother-in-law is a shrewd man. He's very satisfied with his wife's performance. If you're not as capable as her, you have to submit. If you try to argue, you'll lose.

He quickly took out the cigarettes he had saved up over the past few months and handed one to Yan Xiaoqiang. Yan Xiaoqiang was actually a shrewd person. He didn't smoke himself, but he took the cigarette from his brother-in-law and tucked it behind his ear.

Because he knew that his brother-in-law would never give his sister's brother-in-law cigarettes; they were such precious items, how could he just give them away like that?

Sure enough, when Yan Xiaoqiang took the cigarette and tucked it behind his ear, his brother-in-law smiled. It was so comfortable dealing with smart people. The two chatted and laughed as they went out to move their things.

Cuihua's father saw this but didn't say anything. His little girl was spoiled rotten. She ate everything but couldn't do anything right. The man she married had high aspirations but little fortune.

This little incident would have been over by now, but my younger sister is such a troublemaker. She's still upset and needs a scapegoat.

Yan Xiaonan was really unlucky. She had just learned to walk and started walking on the ground wearing thick clothes, with Southwest behind her, arms outstretched, protecting her.

From holding onto the edge of the kang (a heated brick bed) to holding onto the long bench, the young woman saw her chance and deliberately kicked the bench far away.

Yan Xiaonan had just thrown herself onto the bench, her entire weight on it, when she suddenly lost her balance and her head slammed into the leg of the square table in front of the bench.

Southwest, who was behind, didn't have time to react. Yan Xiaonan had already hit her head and fallen to the ground, crying loudly in pain.

You see, Yan Xiaonan was the apple of her family's eye. While her nanny was chatting with her in-laws on the kang (a heated brick bed), her eyes kept glancing at the little girl.

When she was walking, except for Yan Xiaoqiang who was out moving things, several pairs of eyes could see her clearly.

Both Cuihua and Grandma Yan were in a hurry to get off the kang (a heated brick bed). Cuihua rushed over without even bothering to put on her shoes.

He scooped Yan Xiaonan up in his arms; blood was dripping onto her face, and a clear cut on her forehead was still bleeding.

Southwest went mad, grabbed the teapot on the table and smashed it against the little sister's face. The little sister hadn't expected the consequences to be so serious; she just wanted to make the girl fall and vent her anger.

He watched helplessly as the teapot smashed into his face. In an instant, the tea inside splashed all over his face, and the spout of the teapot almost broke his nose.
