Qiao Wanyue took some peach shortbread out of her room. Lu Rong had put it in her room for her to eat as a snack, but she didn't like sweets. "Sister-in-law, you and Lu Hui can eat together." She handed two pieces of peach shortbread to Lu's sister-in-law.
Sister-in-law Lu smiled and took the peach shortbread. She handed one to Lu Hui in her arms and stuffed another into her mouth. Her words were indistinct as she asked, "Wanyue, Mom asked me to ask if you need your older brother to go with you?"
Qiao Wanyue shook her head, "I can go by myself, sister-in-law."
She brought out breakfast from the kitchen, which was simple pickled vegetables and flatbread. This was already a rare treat for farmers. Qiao Wanyue squatted down next to Sister-in-law Lu and moved a chair over to eat.
"How is the Yang family?"
Sister-in-law Lu pouted. "Yang Huaiyuan stubbornly refuses to admit it was a shady affair. He insists that Aunt Xinghua was mistaken. Qiao Shanshan had a fight with Yang Huaiyuan and was then beaten by the Yang family. Afterwards, she said that the figure was herself." Sister-in-law Lu pursed her lips.
"The Yang family compensated Aunt Xinghua with twenty yuan. The brigade leader made the Yang family apologize, and they were forgiven by Aunt Xinghua."

Qiao Wanyue finished her meal in a few bites, checked her belongings, put everything into a basket, and tied it to the back seat of the car.
"Sister-in-law, could my brother weave me a few baskets?"
Sister-in-law Lu readily agreed, "Sure, how big?"
"Anything like the kind used to store wheat at home will do."
"Okay, I'll have him start writing when he gets back."
Qiao Wanyue chatted with her sister-in-law for a few more minutes, teased Lu Hui, and then pushed her bicycle away. Watching her leave with her belongings, Lu's sister-in-law breathed a sigh of relief.
Her mother-in-law made her watch over these things and see her sister-in-law off, so that her father-in-law wouldn't steal them.
She stood motionless in the yard with her child from morning until her sister-in-law left, then took the child and went to work.
Qiao Wanyue rode her bicycle away from the Lu family. When she passed the Yang family, she could still smell a faint stench in the air. She sped up and rode quite a distance before the smell faded a bit.
When Qiao Wanyue arrived at her second uncle's house, she was about to stop the car and knock on the door when she found that the door was wide open and her second uncle was sitting in a recliner in the yard, leisurely smoking a pipe.
Aunt Peach Blossom was also at home and spotted Qiao Wanyue with her sharp eyes.
"Wanyue, you're back." She walked out warmly, helped Qiao Wanyue into her car, and led her into the house.
"Auntie, what are you doing at home?"
Aunt Peach Blossom smiled and said, "Your second uncle said you're going back to your parents' home today, and we're all waiting for you."
Qiao Wanyue discovered that her second uncle's family was all there, including all the able-bodied men in the family. The house was spotless, and there was even a fire burning in the kitchen.
Her heart felt soft and tender.
Aunt Peach Blossom pulled Qiao Wanyue into the room, "Any news about Yunzhou?"
Qiao Wanyue shook her head.
