"What? Trade me with your flesh?"
"Did you hear me right? It's a famine year now. Who has spare money to exchange for other things instead of grain?"
"Is this young man crazy? He's actually trying to trade meat for other things! That's incredibly wasteful!"
"These days, being able to eat a bite of meat is a rarer thing than celebrating the New Year! This young man is actually willing to exchange it for something? It's simply a waste!"
The crowd erupted in uproar, everyone staring at Xu Kuo with incredulous eyes.
A chorus of doubts arose, but many more people's eyes gleamed as they stared intently at the pile of cut-up wild boar meat beside Xu Kuo, their mouths practically watering.
"Third son of the Xu family, I have some fine linen here. How about I trade you two pounds of meat?"
A middle-aged man squeezed to the front, holding up a piece of grayish-brown linen.
"I have some herbs I just picked from the mountain. Can I trade them for a pound of meat?"
An old woman tremblingly held a pile of dried herbs.
"My family has an ancestral blue and white porcelain bowl. I'll trade it for half a pound of meat, just half a pound!"
A young man with red eyes seemed to have made a great decision.
For a time, Xu Kuo's stall was crowded with people and bustling with activity.
Everyone eagerly showed off what they had brought, afraid that if they were late they wouldn't be able to exchange it for meat.
Xu Kuo frowned.
He patiently examined each of the items that everyone had brought.
The system did not respond.
"This piece of linen is worthless."
"These herbs are too young to be of any use."
"This broken bowl, and you call it blue and white porcelain? You're kidding me!"
