Chapter 593 Counterattack

Ning Yuan couldn't stand her weak and innocent appearance, as if the whole world owed her something.

She sneered and said, "Ding Lan, you can pretend in front of anyone else, but don't pretend in front of me. Do you think you can get away with crying a couple of times?"

Ding Lan didn't dare to look at Ning Yuan. She didn't know what kind of background this woman had, but she actually had a bunch of hooligans following her orders.

Her eyes darted around, and seeing that this explanation wasn't working, she immediately knelt down with a "plop".

Separated from the shocked gazes of the crowd, she tearfully reached out to tug at Chu Hongyu's sleeve.

"Hongyu, I know you blame me, but I had no choice!"

“My family is poor, and my parents favor boys over girls. If I hadn’t been admitted to university, they would have sold me to a cripple in the next village! I had to borrow money to pay for my university education, and now I have to pay off the debt every month. I was really desperate, so I agreed to do this job for someone else…”

"Hongyu, I know I was wrong, I really know I was wrong!" Ding Lan cried, tears streaming down her face.

"I was just momentarily blinded by greed. Please, have mercy on me this time! I promise I'll never do it again, please..."

Ning Yuan watched coldly from the sidelines.

This woman is quite the actress. One second she's all righteous and self-righteous, and the next she's kneeling down begging for mercy with tears streaming down her face. Anyone who didn't know better would really think she had suffered some great injustice!

"Alright, stop crying!" Ning Yuan interrupted Ding Lan's performance impatiently.

"If you really want people to believe you were forced, then tell me who ordered you to do this, or don't blame me for being impolite!"

Ding Lan's crying stopped abruptly. She looked up at Ning Yuan, her eyes flickering, biting her lip, and said in a soft, innocent voice—

"I...I don't know...I really don't know. Maybe if you give me a hundred dollars, I'll remember..."

It's not impossible for her to tell the truth, but information costs money.

Ning Yuan looked at Ding Lan coldly. Women really are shameless, unbelievable!

"You still want money, huh!" Ma Zi grabbed Ding Lan by the collar.

He said viciously, "Little wench, don't think I won't touch you just because you're a girl! You'd better tell me honestly who ordered you to do this. If you don't tell the truth, you might as well not leave this school!"

Damn it! Those guys couldn't even extort Sister Ning, and this brat doesn't even deserve to do the same thing as them!

"I...I..." Ding Lan was terrified and struggled desperately, but she couldn't break free from Ma Zi's iron clamps.

Who are these people? Why does Ning Yuan know these shady characters?

"Never mind, Brother Ma, let her go."

Chu Hongyu suddenly spoke in a faint voice, her tone devoid of any emotion.

Everyone looked at Chu Hongyu in bewilderment. They had gone to great lengths to capture Ding Lan, and now they were just letting her go? What kind of saintly figure was she?

Ning Yuan raised an eyebrow slightly: "Hongyu?"

Chu Hongyu looked at Ding Lan with a cold smile on her face: "Ding Lan, if you don't want to talk about it, then forget it. We're all classmates, we'll run into each other all the time, it's not good to make things too awkward."

She turned to Ma Zi and said, "Let her go, Brother Ma Zi."

Although Ma Zi and the others were somewhat unwilling, they obediently let go of Ding Lan.

After being released, Ding Lan collapsed to the ground, still shaken, tidying her disheveled hair and clothes, her eyes darting around, not daring to look Chu Hongyu in the eye.

Chu Hongyu ignored her and turned to leave with Ning Yuan.

Ma Zi and his group followed behind. Before leaving, Ma Zi deliberately glared fiercely at Ding Lan, which made Ding Lan tremble with fear.

Only after Chu Hongyu and her group had gone far away did Ding Lan dare to get up from the ground.

As she watched Chu Hongyu's departing figure, she felt uneasy, sensing that something was amiss.

Chu Hongyu's words just now sounded like she was letting her off the hook.

But Ding Lan always felt that there was a chilling glint in Chu Hongyu's eyes that sent shivers down her spine.

This pampered only daughter from Shanghai has never been an easy person to talk to.

On the way back to the dormitory, Ning Yuan raised an eyebrow slightly and asked Chu Hongyu, "Sister Hongyu, you don't seem like the kind of person who really intends to just let it go like this?"

Chu Hongyu stopped in her tracks, her alluring fox-like eyes narrowing, a chilling light flashing within them: "Xiao Ning, do you think I'll let those people off so easily? I'll make them fight like dogs, I'll make every single one of them pay the price!!"

Ning Yuan looked into Chu Hongyu's determined eyes and understood.

She knew that although Chu Hongyu appeared delicate on the surface, she was actually a girl who was gentle on the outside but strong on the inside.

Once her bottom line is crossed, she will never give up easily.

"If you need help, just ask!" Ning Yuan nodded. Chu Hongyu wasn't truly brainless.

The next morning, Chu Hongyu was unusually calm and walked straight into the department's student union office.

Today she wore an elegant white dress, her hair was tied in a neat ponytail, and her face lacked its usual bright smile, only showing a calm demeanor.

Lu Jingui was sitting at his desk, slowly sipping his tea.

Seeing Chu Hongyu enter, she didn't even lift her eyelids, only asking a curt question—

"Hey, isn't this Chu Hongyu, the most beautiful girl in our Economics Department? What are you doing here at my humble abode today instead of going on a date with some rich young master?"

"Chairman Lu is very busy, so I should be sensible and not waste your precious time."

Chu Hongyu walked to the table and gently placed the brown paper document bag she was holding on it.

Her tone was calm, yet it carried an undeniable sense of pressure: "I've come to talk to Chairman Lu about my father and those big-character posters."

Lu Jingui then put down the documents and looked at Chu Hongyu with a half-smile: "What does this have to do with me? Shouldn't you be going to the school?"

"What if I said you ordered someone to do it?" Chu Hongyu asked instead of answering, her eyes sharply fixed on Lu Jingui.

Lu Jingui laughed nonchalantly, as if he had heard a funny joke: "Chu Hongyu, don't make false accusations! I'm the president of the student union, how could I do such a despicable thing?"

Chu Hongyu chuckled lightly: "Yes, who would have thought that our school's moral exemplar and famous student author would do something like this—trying every means to frame a classmate and ruin their reputation just because she was jealous that the classmate took her job opportunity? Who would have thought she was such a vicious, disgusting, and hypocritical person?"

"You think you can slander me with just empty words?" Lu Jingui put down his teacup, leaned back, and sneered.

What kind of thing is qualified to threaten her?

While she was threatening people, this little vixen was still playing in the mud.

Lu Jingui stared at Chu Hongyu with a contemptuous and sharp gaze—

"Chu Hongyu, I advise you to save your energy. With such a big problem in your family, you should think about how to help your father get through this difficult time first. Don't go looking for trouble all the time, or you might get yourself into trouble too."

"I just think..." Chu Hongyu smiled slightly.

She said meaningfully, "There are no secrets in this world. The truth will eventually come out. Besides, I caught the villain who was putting up big-character posters last night. She confessed a lot."

As she spoke, Chu Hongyu emptied the brown paper document bag in her hand, and a red poster torn in half fell out.

Lu Jingui's pupils contracted slightly in an instant.

Chu Hongyu paused, looked directly at Lu Jingui, and said, word by word, "Chairman Lu, what do you think would happen if I told the school what I know?"
