Chapter 54 She Became the Murderer (2/2)

"You really love your wife! You even know to ask us if you don't know something. That's how a man should act!" The old woman said, spitting on her hands as she twisted hemp rope. "Let me tell you, your wife just said she wanted to eat something sour."

"I have some dried hawthorns at home." The old woman crept closer, saying furtively, "Just give me a dollar."

...

So that's how it is. Liu Nian's eyes even reddened when she read the end.

In this day and age, especially in villages, men are all chauvinistic and have no sympathy for the hardships women face. But Su Xu was willing to listen, even if it was laughable, just to hear a useful word or two from these old women.

But dried hawthorn berries are best avoided, as they promote blood circulation.

Liu Nian sniffled, choking back tears. She rubbed her eyes, her heart throbbing with a heavy, aching pain.

When Su Xu returned, he saw Liu Nian lying there with red eyes.

When asked why she just shook her head, Su Xu got anxious and pulled her into his arms, coaxing her for a long time.

Liu Nian snuggled into Su Xu's arms, listening to his heartbeat, and said in a hoarse voice, "Ah Xu, it's so good to marry you."

Holding her man in her arms, Liu Nian felt at ease.

That night, the two slept in each other's arms.

I heard Su Xu bustling around all morning, stuffing a lot of food into his blue cloth bag, grabbing a cushion, and carrying a water cup.

"What are you doing?" Liu Nian looked him up and down in confusion. "Going out?"

Su Xu nodded and said, "I'll take you to the hospital for your routine check-up today."

Oh, Liu Nian has forgotten, but Su Xu remembers.

Liu Nian couldn't help but laugh, "Are you really not afraid of being laughed at?"

"Let anyone laugh if they want, I just hope you're okay." Su Xu blushed and stole a glance at Liu Nian. "Get up."

Su Xu had already squeezed the toothpaste for Liu Nian. After washing up, Su Xu took Liu Nian out the door.

Just then, Wu Qi came to pick up the royal jelly, and Liu Nian and Su Xu hitched a ride to the hospital.

"You're the matchmaker for me and Sufeng! When we get married, I'll give you a big red envelope!" Wu Qi said with a smile, her face flushed, clearly in love.

Liu Nian smiled and said okay, then added, "When we get to the hospital, take me to see Sister Lili first."

She wanted to see how well Wu Lili's face was recovering.

"Okay!" Wu Qi agreed readily, but still didn't say anything.

After getting off the bus, Su Xu, carrying large and small bags, led Liu Nian into the hospital.

As soon as I entered the burn rehabilitation department, I heard a child crying his heart out.

"Mommy—Waaah—it hurts—" The child's face was burned red and black, and the skin and flesh were turned inside out.

The mother hugged her child and cried, "It's okay, Mommy's here, Mommy's here."

"It's all your fault! You do nothing all day, you can't even take care of a child!" the father complained. "Tell me, what are you even capable of?"

The in-laws both had stern faces. "If my grandson has a scar on his face, you just wait!"

The mother opened her mouth, but said nothing, and hugged her child tightly.

She forced herself to stay upright, but her body swayed precariously, and she couldn't even bear to look at her child's wounds. Did she really want that? She would rather it was herself who was hurt.

Liu Nian's heart skipped a beat in fright. She was about to become a mother herself and couldn't bear to see her child suffer.

She looked at the royal jelly in the white porcelain bottle and walked over.

"Ma'am, please use this on your child." Liu Nian handed the porcelain bottle to the child's mother. "It's a family secret recipe that's very effective for wounds."

Before the child's mother could react, the child's grandmother rushed over like a madwoman, pointing at Liu Nian and saying, "What are you doing? What kind of thing do you dare to use for my grandson?"

"My child is in so much pain right now. Trust me, this can relieve the pain and remove the scars."

The child's cries were hoarse, and his heart-wrenching screams made Liu Nian's heart ache.

Liu Nian sighed; she truly couldn't bear to see her child suffer. Anxious, she had no time to explain or disinfect herself. She grabbed the porcelain bottle and applied the liquid directly to the child's wound with her bare hands.

Unexpectedly, the child's grandmother screamed, "Ouch—stop it—"

"Our grandson is extremely pampered! He's the only son in three generations! Will you take responsibility if something goes wrong?"

"You're trying to murder my grandson—tell me what you're trying to do—"

The old woman's shout attracted everyone's attention. She pointed at Liu Nian and said, "Gangzi! Arrest her! She must have been sent by someone to harm your son!"

As soon as he finished speaking, Gangzi waved his hand, and a group of people surrounded him.
