Finally, dawn broke, and they set off early as planned. Qin Xiaoyu had a splitting headache and felt like her body was falling apart, but she had no choice but to get up.
The Zhou family was waiting at the door, and Zhou Yue carried her little sister into the jeep. Hanhan was being led by Commander Zhou, and they were chatting about something.
Qin Xiaoyu nervously searched for Zhou Xing in the crowd, but he wasn't there. He probably still had to take the train back.
She breathed a sigh of relief.
"Qin Xiaoyu! Point them out, are they the same ones?" Zhou Xing appeared out of nowhere and pointed behind him. Two soldiers were escorting one person. Yesterday's drunkards were all in custody.
"No, no!" Qin Xiaoyu panicked.
"You're lying, it was them!" Zhou Xing roared.
"It really isn't!"
"Shoot them all!" Zhou Xing shoved her aside, waved his hand forcefully, and the soldiers pressed their guns against the heads of those men, pulling the triggers...
"No!" Qin Xiaoyu shouted, sitting up in bed covered in cold sweat.
It was already dawn, but it wasn't time to set off yet.
"Xiaoyu, are you alright? You kept groaning last night, is something bothering you?" Zhou Yue reached out and touched her forehead.
"It's okay, I'm fine."
Qin Xiaoyu pushed her hand away and lay back down heavily, her whole body aching as if it were falling apart, just like in her dream. It seemed that yesterday's fighting had caused her some damage, perhaps a muscle strain or something similar.
"You seem to have a fever. Should I go and call Zhou Xing to come and take a look?" Zhou Yue said worriedly.
"It's okay, really, you should sleep a little longer. The journey must have been tiring too." When Qin Xiaoyu said this, she felt like her mouth was burning, and she couldn't open it. Without even finishing her sentence, she collapsed and lost consciousness again.
After an unknown amount of time, she opened her eyes again and saw Zhou Xing standing by her bedside with a serious expression.
Zhou Yue lifted her arm and took out the thermometer.
"40 degrees?" Zhou Yue exclaimed.
“She can’t possibly travel for several more hours like this. Let her stay and recover before going back,” Zhou Xing said decisively.
"That……"
"Go and tell them you want to go shopping for clothes and ask Qin Xiaoyu to stay with you for the day. Your parents won't object. They can take Hanhan and Xiaomei home without any problem." Zhou Xing made the arrangements perfectly.
"Okay, I'll go right now." Zhou Yue ran out. Qin Xiaoyu then realized that it was already broad daylight, and Hanhan and her younger sister were no longer in the house.
"They've been taken to breakfast; they can't stay. It would be more troublesome if they got infected."
Nothing could convince Qin Xiaoyu more than the argument of contagion, so she stopped insisting.
Zhou Xing's mother didn't suspect anything. Zhou Yue had been clamoring to buy clothes more than once or twice. This daughter had always been willful and ignorant, so she just let her be.
As for Qin Xiaoyu, let her do whatever she wants; just leave the child with them.
Qin Xiaoyu was in a coma all day. Zhou Yue fed her some medicine, and Zhou Xing sat by her bedside, wiping her forehead and cheeks with a damp towel from time to time.
In the afternoon, Qin Xiaoyu's temperature rose again, and Zhou Yue insisted on taking her to the hospital.
"What are you yelling about! If you keep yelling, get out! I am the doctor!" Zhou Xing pushed Zhou Yue out.
Qin Xiaoyu's illness was severe; she seemed to have used up all her strength. From her rebirth until now, all the pressure and grievances she had suffered had come crashing down on her, truly crushing her.
She was half asleep, sometimes being called a mistress, sometimes suddenly falling from the building, with the wind whistling in her ears.
A moment later, I saw Hanhan's mother hanging from the ceiling, kicking a chair with her toes.
Then it started raining and the wind picked up again. The old lady locked the door from the inside, and Hanhan pulled her little sister and desperately called for her mother to open the door.
She cried out and screamed desperately, but in reality, it was just a series of groans, as soft as a mosquito's buzz.
She slept for two days and one night, and woke up in the early hours of the morning.
With the curtains half-drawn, the cool moonlight streamed into the room, and Qin Xiaoyu slowly began to see everything clearly.
Zhou Xing was asleep beside her bed. There was a stool next to his legs, and on it was an enamel basin with the red characters for "Guesthouse" printed on it, with a white towel soaking in it.
Zhou Yue lay motionless on the sofa, covered with a blanket.
Qin Xiaoyu pulled her hand out from under the covers and slowly reached out to touch Zhou Xing's face, gently, very gently.
Suddenly, she thought she saw Zhou Xing's eyelashes tremble. She quickly withdrew her hand, closed her eyes tightly, and slowly shrank into the quilt, holding her breath and not daring to move.
The room remained quiet, and Zhou Xing did not move. Qin Xiaoyu breathed a sigh of relief, turned to her side, feeling much more relaxed, closed her eyes, and slowly drifted back to sleep.
Zhou Xing proved with his actions that his medical skills were quite good; under his care, Qin Xiaoyu's fever subsided.
Qin Xiaoyu's hospital meal was delivered to her bedside by the guesthouse staff. Although Commander Zhou had left, the young master remained, so how could they dare not take care of him?
"Xiaoyu has lost a lot of weight this time, her face is all wrinkled." Zhou Yue said with heartache. She put down the bowl of porridge in her hand. Qin Xiaoyu only ate a few mouthfuls of the fragrant black rice porridge and refused to eat anymore.
This commander's daughter was pampered from birth, with people serving her everything. After marriage, she was blessed with good fortune, living in another high-ranking official's family with several maids; she was never seen doing any housework.
Over the past two days, he has been constantly around Qin Xiaoyu, helping her change her sweat-soaked underwear, feeding her medicine and pouring her water, and even helping her to the bathroom. Qin Xiaoyu knows in her heart that she appreciates his kindness.
"Is everything alright at home?"
"Don't worry, both kids are doing well. The old couple each take care of one, and they don't fight." Zhou Yue smiled.
Qin Xiaoyu looked up and saw that Zhou Xing hadn't appeared since her fever subsided. But she couldn't bring herself to ask.
"Little Fish, are you looking for Zhou Xing?" Zhou Yue asked hesitantly.
"No, no, why would I look for him?" Qin Xiaoyu quickly clarified.
"He didn't get enough rest for two days and two nights, so he went back to his room to catch up on sleep," Zhou Yue replied to herself.
"Thank you for your hard work," Qin Xiaoyu said reluctantly, but the words were dry and lacked any sincerity.
Zhou Yue didn't answer.
Qin Xiaoyu was feeling extremely anxious, whether it was because she was weak from recovering from a serious illness or something else. She huddled under the covers and stared blankly for a while.
They couldn't delay any longer; Zhou Xing bought train tickets and was to leave the next day.
Ignoring Zhou Yue's objections, Qin Xiaoyu took a shower. She was so weak she almost fainted in the bathroom. As she put on her bathrobe and leaned against the wall to walk out, she unexpectedly met Zhou Xing's gaze.
Her usually neatly styled long hair was now loose, half-dried by a hairdryer, smooth as satin. Her pale face was flushed by the warm water, her eyes were moist, and her full little mouth was half-open.
Qin Xiaoyu hurriedly pulled her clothes together, Zhou Xing's face turned bright red, and he fled out the door.
Zhou Yue looked at them with worry, without saying a word.
Hearing that they were about to leave, the director specially arranged a meal and drinks. Qin Xiaoyu had already gotten out of bed and was no longer so weak, so she went to the canteen with them.
"You can only drink porridge." Zhou Xing rudely slammed a bowl of porridge in front of her.
