Chapter 70 The Truth
Shen Zhuoyi was confused. "What do you mean? My mom was so angry today because she saw you fighting? And you got hurt? Does your mom know?"
"Don't tell her I'm injured, I'm afraid it will burden her." Lu Mingzheng also considered this possibility, and his complexion visibly improved.
"Why don't you tell her? Boss, you're going to suffer if you pursue a woman like this. You should let her know what you're doing for her!"
You've fought for her and gotten hurt for her, how could she possibly be moved, how could she possibly fall for you?
Yu Jian's eyes widened, and he began to lecture Lu Mingzheng in an exaggerated tone.
Lu Mingzheng wished he could sew Yu Jian's mouth shut. Why was he shouting so loudly? Did he want everyone to know he was injured in a fight?
This will have a huge impact on his reputation, and it was only because he underestimated his opponent that he was ambushed by such a despicable and shameless person.
He didn't want Jiang Ruzhen to know how incompetent he was.
Shen Zhuoyi finally understood what the two were talking about, and he asked with a serious face.
"Uncle Lu, who did you run into today? You have to tell me, otherwise how am I supposed to protect Mom when you're not around?"
Lu Mingzheng pondered for a long time before slowly saying, "I originally wanted to go to your house to see you today, but I saw a group of people with shifty eyes staring at your mother."
I followed them quietly and overheard their conversation. I learned that the mastermind behind it all was Xu Bin, the guy your mother had ruined his job and then detained in the police station for half a month.
I also heard them talking about it...
Lu Mingzheng found it difficult to describe what he heard; he felt it was too disgusting to utter.
Yu Jian, who was standing next to him, was so anxious that he scratched his head and pulled Shen Zhuoyi over to whisper in his ear, "Those bad guys said they want to kidnap your mother and sell her to that kind of place after they've had their fun with her."
Do you understand what I mean?
"What? Is that Xu Bin really that despicable and shameless?" Shen Zhuoyi's forehead was flushed with blood. He was already furious even before he had heard those people speak.
If he were to actually run into those people and hear them spouting filthy nonsense, he believed he would definitely beat Xu Bin to death on the spot.
Fortunately, Uncle Lu was still somewhat rational and prevented serious consequences; otherwise, he really wouldn't know how to repay Uncle Lu's favor.
"Was your injury caused by that group too?" Shen Zhuoyi asked with concern.
Lu Mingzheng kept shaking his head, but Yu Jian nodded vigorously, "It was Xu Bin who took advantage of our boss fighting with those guys to launch a sneak attack from behind."
Upon hearing this, Lu Mingzheng felt a wave of dizziness. It was all over; his wise and powerful image had been completely ruined by Yu Jian.
He stared at Yu Jian with a sinister look, his fists clenched so tightly they cracked. "You little rascal, aren't you too idle? I'm in the hospital right now, so I'll hand over all my work to you from now on."
Upon hearing this, Yu Jian turned and ran. "Boss, I'm so busy! I still have a ton of work to finish. I'm leaving now, boss. I'll bring you dinner later."
Shen Zhuoyi watched speechlessly from the side, and he said seriously to Lu Mingzheng.
"Uncle Lu, I also think you should tell my mom the truth. She probably thinks you're looking for revenge for what happened a few days ago."
She thought it wasn't worth it for you to fight that trash; she was worried about you. You have no idea how volatile she was today; she almost scared my brother and me to death just now.
Lu Mingzheng remained silent for a while. He still didn't want to tell Jiang Ruzhen the truth. He always felt that it was a man's duty to protect a woman and that he didn't need to take credit for it.
He did this willingly, not to move Jiang Ruzhen into accepting his advances.
He was greedy; what he wanted was genuine affection from Jiang Ruzhen.
In the middle of the night, Lu Mingzheng tossed and turned in bed, unable to sleep. He quietly got up and went to the ward next door, only daring to peek out from outside the door.
He felt frustrated. Jiang Ruzhen's words today had hurt him. She even said that she never wanted to see him again. What should he do to make her feel better?
Back in the ward, he took a cigarette from Yu Jian's pocket, who was sleeping like a log, and lit it.
He slowly moved to the window, his slender fingers holding a cigarette as he stared blankly at the swaying shadows of the trees outside.
"Lovesickness strikes, can't sleep?" Yu Jian somehow found his way to Lu Mingzheng's side.
Lu Mingzheng suddenly turned the cigarette butt in his hand and shoved it towards Yu Jian's eyes. Yu Jian leaned back and rolled to avoid it. He patted his chest, still shaken.
"Boss, are you trying to kill me?"
Lu Mingzheng rolled his eyes at him. "I've told you before, don't approach me when I'm spacing out. I have a stress response."
Yu Jian simply sat on the ground and wouldn't get up, muttering to himself.
"Boss, why are you doing this to yourself? If you like her, just go for it. Hesitating like this is not like you at all."
"What's my style?" Since he couldn't sleep anyway, Lu Mingzheng asked out of boredom.
"You used to be such a strong-willed and competitive person. In the army, you would fight tooth and nail to win first place in any competition or mission, no matter how big or small."
Your eyes were resolute then, unwavering and determined. Like a drawn sword, you vowed not to turn back until blood was drawn.
But now when you pursue a woman, you always have too many concerns. It's like you've become a different person; you're not like the person you used to be.
Yu Jian had never been in a relationship or had a wife, so he didn't understand the subtleties and detours involved in love.
Lu Mingzheng knew exactly what he was doing. If he were facing an ordinary woman, he would have already taken her down in one fell swoop.
But Jiang Ruzhen is different.
She harbors great pain and a deep secret. She is very guarded, and it is difficult for ordinary people to get close to her.
If he hadn't shamelessly fought for a place by her side, Jiang Ruzhen would probably have forgotten about him long ago.
“You don’t understand…” Lu Mingzheng muttered.
Yu Jian rolled his eyes at the sky. Here we go again. Ever since he found someone he liked, he felt like his boss was turning into a philosopher.
When he was in Yangcheng, he would stare at the documents and smile foolishly every day, missing her terribly. But after rushing to finish his work for a few days, he came to visit her and even did a good deed anonymously.
He's a dead end, there's no hope for him!
Lu Mingzheng didn't go back to bed until dawn and took a nap, intending to go see Jiang Ruzhen after he got up.
When he arrived at the ward, he found it empty; the nurse told him that the person had already been discharged long ago.
After a night's rest, Jiang Ruzhen felt much better and insisted on going home to rest early in the morning.
The eldest and second eldest sons couldn't persuade her otherwise, so they took her home.
Jiang Ruzhen felt fine, so she went for a stroll in the store and saw that most of the clothes were sold out.
She started thinking about going to purchase goods, but she and Lu Mingzheng had just broken up yesterday, and she didn't want to go to Yangcheng to purchase goods.
Now that she's making money, she doesn't care about travel expenses, and she plans to head south to Hangzhou.
The second son was worried about Jiang Ruzhen going out alone and insisted on going with her, while Jiang Ruzhen was also worried about her second son being bothered by Mei Ling at home.
The two hit it off immediately, packed their things, and headed to the train station.
The eldest son rode the family's newly bought tricycle to take the two to the station, looking somewhat forlorn.
"Mom, I'm too stupid. All I can do is collect money and keep accounts. I can't help you at all. I'm relieved that the second child is going with you."
Jiang Ruzhen had always known that her eldest son had a knot in his heart, but apart from offering a few words of comfort, she didn't know how to console him.
"Eldest brother, you've done a great job. Your brothers and sisters at home need you, and Mom needs you to look after the fourth brother and the store."
I don't trust anyone else with this job. Do you know how much it costs for big companies to hire a CFO?
"With you in our family, Mom feels like she's hit the jackpot. Don't think about anything else, just focus on doing your best."
The eldest brother smiled upon hearing this and waved goodbye to Jiang Ruzhen.
The eldest brother had just arrived home when he saw Uncle Lu pacing back and forth in front of his house. "Uncle Lu, you're here?"
Lu Mingzheng noticed his boss pause for a moment, then asked somewhat awkwardly.
Where's your mom?
"My mom went to buy supplies," the eldest brother told the truth.
"Huh? She went to Yangcheng? Why didn't she wait for me?" Lu Mingzheng turned to leave.
The eldest brother grabbed him, "Uncle Lu, um... my mother didn't go to Yangcheng, she took the second brother to Hangzhou."
Lu Mingzheng was taken aback upon hearing this, and said dejectedly, "Is she really going to cut ties with me?"
