Are you this busy every day?
Shen Xianjun didn't stand on ceremony and picked up the water to drink it in big gulps.
"It's good to be busy. With income every day, I don't feel anxious. This is much easier than planting cotton or beans in the fields. You don't have to be exposed to wind, sun, or rain. You can work hard in the fields all year round, but you can't earn as much as you can in a month now."
Gui Xiang couldn't help but sigh.
“The common people rely on the weather for farming. After the flood, the harvest in the fields was not good. If it weren’t for your mother’s connections, we would have almost not survived by getting sweet potato seedlings and planting them. And with this, if we really relied on the income from farming, even if your uncle and Ershun were saved, it would be too late.”
It's not that farming is bad, but it's really tough.
Although her husband can no longer do heavy work, he is just as good at light work, and everything is in order. What more could she ask for? Ershun is getting better every day.
“That’s true. Well then, ma’am and sir, I’ll head back now. You can rest too. We had lunch here. My child has to go to my mother-in-law’s for class tonight, so he probably won’t be able to come for dinner. I have two weeks off, so I’ll bring him along when he’s on leave.”
Shen Xianjun knew he still had business to do that night, so he didn't stay any longer.
"Okay, okay."
Gui Xiang had intended to go grocery shopping, but she got so busy that she forgot. She thought about when the twins would have a day off, wrote the date down, and planned to buy the groceries in advance.
Shen Xianjun rode his bicycle back to the family compound. The door was still locked. Shen Xianjun had brought his key and opened the door.
Looking at the neat and tidy house, I picked up a broom and swept the floor, then went to the backyard to feed the chickens.
The grass in the field was very clean, just like his mother's usual style.
After checking the time, Shen Xianjun realized it was about time and rode his bicycle to his mother-in-law's house, where he indeed saw his mother.
"Auntie, is this fish cleaned properly? Does it need to be sliced into fillets?"
Hu Jun picked up the cleaned fish and showed it to Yang Yufen.
When Shen Xianjun entered, he saw this scene, and two words flashed through his mind: It's over!
"No need, no need. We're having stewed fish today. Just make a cut about two fingers wide."
Yang Yufen smiled as she chopped vegetables, while Professor Wen watched over Xiaobao outside.
"The modern army is here."
Professor Wen heard the noise, turned around and saw Shen Xianjun. Since someone was home, the front door was naturally open.
"Mother-in-law, I'm going to the kitchen to help."
Shen Xianjun quickly greeted him.
Professor Wen wanted to say that the kitchen couldn't accommodate so many people, but he opened his mouth and then stopped.
"Mom, let me help you."
"Xianjun is here. I've helped the old lady get ready. Please sit on the sofa."
Hu Jun smiled, but Shen Xianjun only felt that he was sinister.
"Then I'll clean up the kitchen. Brother, why don't you help your mother-in-law look after the baby? She must be tired after a long day of teaching."
Yang Yufen put the sauce into the pot, and the aroma immediately filled the air.
"Why don't you two go pick up the child? The child will be getting out of school soon."
Yang Yufen looked at the cramped kitchen; she could actually manage it herself.
"Okay, thank you for your hard work, Auntie."
Hu Jun readily agreed, and Shen Xianjun, who had just arrived, had no choice but to go along as well.
After the two went outside, they heard Professor Wen laughing inside the house.
Professor Wen walked into the kitchen and couldn't help but laugh after exchanging a glance with Yang Yufen.
"Yufen, life has become much more fun since you came."
"Hehe, I also think that life is full of fun these days."
Yang Yufen couldn't help but laugh as she put the cleaned fish into the pot; Hu Jun had brought it back from outside today.
"I was lucky today and caught a big fish. When my aunt came back, I casually mentioned that I missed her braised fish with soy sauce. She went home and got some soy sauce to make it for me."
