Happy New Year, Uncle Tan!
Grandpa Tan nodded, "Happy New Year." Without a hint of a smile, he went into the kitchen and asked, "Where's Han Yu? Late on her first day?" His dislike was undisguised.
Bu Ling said slowly, "I don't know. He just came in, washed his hands, and left. I asked him where he was going, and he said it was none of my business."
"This is outrageous! What does he think he's doing? This is a job, how can he be so willful? If he doesn't want to work here, he should get out of here!" Old Tan roared.
Han Yu happened to hear this when he walked into the state-run restaurant. He took a deep breath, calmed himself down, and stepped forward: "Master, I was wrong. I just suddenly remembered that Xiaoxiao said he wanted to eat fish, so I went to buy some for him."
Bu Ling sarcastically remarked, "Comrade Han is such a good husband, but where's the fish?"
Han Yu: Someone come quick and sew her mouth shut!
Seeing his master's gaze grow colder, he forced himself to explain, "Master, there's no fish left at the grocery store."
Buling wanted to say something more, but Sister Ma pulled her back, gesturing for her to look at Grandpa Tan's expression.
Bu Ling saw the mockery in Grandpa Tan's eyes but said nothing.
He scoffed, then turned and went back to the kitchen.
Trying to outsmart him? This kid's too green. He'll have plenty of time. Just wait and see.
Han Yu's face twisted in pain, but she didn't dare say a word. After standing there for a while, she followed him into the kitchen.
So that day, while working at the counter, Bu Ling would occasionally hear Grandpa Tan's angry curses, all directed at Han Yu, completely disregarding whether there were customers present; his curses were quite sharp.
Whenever a guest asks curiously, Bu Ling will enthusiastically explain, "Hi, he's a kitchen helper at our restaurant. He's a bit clumsy, and the head chef is teaching him."
"You can't just curse like that."
Buling looked helpless: "We have no choice but to do it this way. That guy is very arrogant and doesn't respect anyone. Even so, he's still full of complaints and resentment. Our master is only doing this for his own good."
"Then why not replace him?" a customer asked with ulterior motives.
Bu Ling gave him a look that said, "You don't understand, do you?" He continued, "This guy is shameless. If we were in his place, his mother would come to the restaurant and cause a scene. For the sake of our guests' dining experience, our head chef has no choice but to put up with this. Please don't take offense."
The guests who heard the news were all deeply moved. They were unaware of the immense sacrifices the state-run restaurant staff had endured for them.
Thus, without Han Yu's knowledge, rumors about him spread rapidly, and his reputation grew increasingly tarnished until it became utterly infamous.
