Gu Li reacted quickly and grabbed Jiang Xu's hand. "No," he said, leaning close to Jiang Xu. "The child is still growing. We can't let you suffer. Don't skimp on your eggs. It will break my heart."
Watching Gu Li's heartbroken performance, Jiang Xu said calmly, "The money that's being withheld is yours, so you can suffer while I suffer."
"How could that be?" Gu Li casually took the egg from Jiang Xu's palm, and with a nimble movement, slipped between Jiang Xu and the stove.
He skillfully heated the oil in the pan and cracked an egg into it with one hand. "This is what I fried for you. I believe my dear boyfriend prepared my portion long ago, didn't he?" Gu Li held the pan in one hand and put her other hand on Jiang Xu's shoulder. "Brother Xu."
Jiang Xu thought, this is really bad.
Gu Li's deliberately composed voice, with even the last syllable of her words floating over like a small hook, slowly and gently reached Jiang Xu's ears with a slightly hoarse tone.
It's like the tender whispers of a lover, gently stirring one's heart.
Jiang Xu raised his hand to cover the surging emotions in his eyes. Gu Li kept teasing him, and he wanted to press down on the other person's head, to shut the mouth of the person in front of him, so that what was on his shoulder was not Gu Li's hand, but Gu Li's panting.
That's what he thought, but he still restrained himself a bit in his actions. Jiang Xu pulled Gu Li close and kissed her for a while before letting go. "We'll make a fuss later," he said slowly, looking into Gu Li's eyes. "Also, the eggs are going to burn."
Gu Li's slight numbness was instantly dispelled by these words. He hurriedly looked at the eggs in his pan that he had neglected for a while. "Tsk," he said in a low voice, his voice even hoarser, "I should have known better than to fry these eggs." His voice was very soft, as if he were talking to himself, "It's causing trouble."
Gu Li casually flipped the eggs in the pan with a spatula, and finally, with a flick of the spatula, the egg landed steadily on the noodles. "Not burnt at all, still perfect."
Jiang Xu glanced at the dish while adjusting the seasonings, "Great job, as expected of you."
Gu Li brought the bowl closer to Jiang Xu. "Is this your bowl? Are you adding seasoning for me?"
“Okay,” Jiang Xu replied, “You can go and sit down first.”
Gu Li brought Jiang Xu's noodles to the dining table, gently placed the noodles down, and sat down next to him. He propped his head up and watched the white steam rising from the bowl of noodles, feeling exceptionally good.
Gu Li thought the bowl of noodles looked good in every way: the soup base was good, the side dishes were good, and the noodles looked good too. But what was even better was the person sitting down in front of that bowl.
Jiang Xu pushed the prepared noodles in front of Gu Li, "Try it, and add more if you don't like it."
Gu Li nodded, picked up a noodle with her chopsticks, and felt a warm sensation the moment the noodle entered her mouth. "It's just right, like my fried egg, it's perfect."
Jiang Xu also took a bite, and the taste was the same as usual, but a smile appeared in his eyes. "You're right, it's perfect."
Gu Li was really hungry, and he thought the noodles tasted especially good at this moment. "Rainy days and instant noodles are indeed a perfect match."
Jiang Xu: "I didn't cook it, okay?"
"Hmm..." Gu Li's voice trailed off, "Let me think... I think maybe, probably..." Just then, a piece of sausage fell into Gu Li's bowl.
Gu Li looked up at Jiang Xu, who seemed completely unaffected. Jiang Xu calmly ate a mouthful of noodles, then turned to look at Gu Li, "So? How did my cooking turn out?"
Gu Li smiled and quickly put the sausage in his mouth and chewed. "I think it's great, super great, excellent." He even gave Jiang Xu a thumbs up, "Keep it up!"
As Jiang Xu picked up the fried egg from his bowl, a piece of luncheon meat slid down the rim and into the bowl. Looking up, Jiang Xu saw Gu Li smiling at him. "Trying to bribe me?"
Gu Li: "Yes, you need to bribe someone to get the next bowl."
Jiang Xu, "I'm such an innocent person..."
Gu Li continued, "Someone as innocent as you doesn't even put a couple of green vegetables or cabbages in your noodles."
Jiang Xu said, "This is called 'a clear conscience is in the hearts of the people.'"
"I see," Gu Li said thoughtfully. "So, does this innocent young man accept bribes or not?"
Jiang Xu switched to holding the piece of luncheon meat. "I'm not only innocent, I'm also generous; I never refuse anyone." He smiled and ate the luncheon meat. "So, what's up?"
Gu Li propped her chin up and watched Jiang Xu eat. "It's nothing, I just heard them say that feeding someone gives you a sense of satisfaction, so I'll give it a try and see how it goes."
Jiang Xu swallowed. "How are you feeling now?"
Gu Li said, "I think they were right after all. I feel a strange sense of accomplishment."
Jiang Xu picked up a slice of meat and placed it near Gu Li's lips. "Want a slice?"
Gu Li opened her mouth and took a bite, mumbling, "I already have some of this meat in my bowl."
Jiang Xu smiled as he watched the man puff out his cheeks. "I also want to feel a sense of accomplishment. It's really good."
When Jiang Xu is with Gu Li, he can always feel the warmth of everyday life, a special sense of authenticity and joy, and his emotions are well stirred by the person in front of him.
Jiang Xu would want to play around with people and would want to respond to every word they say; there will only ever be one person like that.
The one in front of him.
After the two finished eating a bowl of noodles, it was time for bed. Gu Li was wearing Jiang Xu's clothes; the pure white loungewear made the red-haired man look a bit more docile.
Gu Li's hair was blown into a smooth shape and now lay softly on her forehead. Jiang Xu looked at the person lazily leaning back on the sofa and didn't really want to let her go back.
The indoor temperature was just right, and the rain outside had stopped, though the ground looked damp. Jiang Xu thought for a moment and then asked, "Did you bring in the laundry?"
"Huh?" Gu Li was looking at TV and had been distracted for a moment before replying, "I didn't do any laundry at all."
Jiang Xu sat down next to Gu Li. "Did you wash the dishes?"
Gu Li tilted her head, her face full of confusion. "Why should I suddenly wash the dishes? Didn't we just wash them together?"
Jiang Xu, "Is anyone coming over to your house today?"
Gu Lizheng suddenly realized what was going on. He immediately put down the remote control in his hand. "No one is coming to my house, but you might need to have an extra person. Is that okay?" He sat up straighter, as if he were seriously asking Jiang Xu for his opinion.
Jiang Xu understood, and pointed to a room with his finger. "I remember that person said he would come to favor that room. Is today that auspicious day?"
Gu Li followed his gaze, a smile playing on his lips. It was a joke they had made before, but now it seemed to fit perfectly. "I think," he drawled, his smile barely concealed, "that's certainly true today."
Jiang Xu's lips curled up. "Welcome. And," the remote control that had fallen to the ground was now in Jiang Xu's hand, "it's time to sleep."
