Potatoes Become Spirits: The Birth of Rat Farmer

Potatoes Become Spirits: The Birth of Rat Farmer

A rustling sound came from the potato pile in the subspace. Xiaodou peeled open the potatoes and saw a potato with tender leaves and ears using its vines to steal the sunflower seeds he had hidden in the corner. The moment their eyes met, the potato spirit suddenly rolled into a ball and knocked over the instant noodle box next to it.

"Stop!" Xiaodou tucked the leaky flashlight into his tail. "If you run again, I'll stew you into mashed potatoes!"

The potato spirit shuddered, the melon seed shells hanging from the vines rustling and falling, and it actually formed a "Mouse Immortal, spare me!" sign. The otaku rushed in, holding up his phone: "Just now the base broadcast said that the ground outside the city is cracked, and only here are vegetables growing!"

Three days later, a crooked wooden sign was erected on the ruins of the base: "Shushu Farm—Sweet Seeds for Vegetables, No Cheating." Xiaodou crouched on the shrine, watching the humans line up to trade expired snacks for potatoes and carrots, his tail wagging proudly.

"God of Rat," the old man in the gas mask said, holding up the moldy biscuits, "could you please make your potato essence sprout a little more? I want to make porridge for my daughter."

Xiaodou patted the pile of melon seeds on the shrine with his claws, and ten green potatoes suddenly emerged from the subspace, each with a bow on top - that was the "human aesthetic" that the potato spirits had just learned.

"Hey, I heard you have room?"

A sleek hamster suddenly emerged from the trading queue, the gold ring on its paw gleaming eerily (it was actually a bottle cap). He leaned in close to Xiaodou and lowered his voice, "Trade your space for my milk tea recipe. I guarantee you'll reach the pinnacle of your life in the apocalypse!"

Xiaodou raised an eyebrow, and a half-empty bottle of Coke fell out of his space. This was the one he had stolen from the Zombie Rat King yesterday. The hamster's eyes lit up, and his paws trembled violently. "This is the original pre-war product! How did you get it?"

"Let me see the secret recipe first." Xiaodou gnawed open the bottle cap. The moment the cola bubbles exploded on the tip of his tongue, the flow of time in the subspace suddenly accelerated. A yellowed photo rolled out of the backpack behind the hamster. The woman in the photo was wearing the AI matchmaker bracelet from the StarCraft chapter.

"Wait!" Xiaodou rolled up the photo with his tail, "Where is this woman?"

The hamster instantly became timid, its ears pressed against its back. "She, she's my sister. She went out to look for supplies half a year ago and never came back... You've seen it too, everything edible in the base has mutated, except for your farm..."

On the back of the photo was written in lipstick: "If you see this photo, please help me find Nannan. She has a teardrop mole at the left corner of her eye." Xiaodou remembered the crying of the cub he picked up in the subspace yesterday, and his claws couldn't help but tightened - the little girl hiding in the ruins seemed to have a faint mole at the corner of her eye.

Late at night, Xiaodou was awakened by vines and discovered that the potato spirits had escaped prison en masse and were planting sunflowers on the ruins outside the base. The leading potato spirit pointed at the moon with a leaf, and a caption made of dewdrops hung on the vines: "We want to give humanity more light."

"Do you know this is dangerous?" Xiaodou wanted to be angry with them, but he saw that the potato spirits were wearing helmets made of cans on their heads. "Next time, at least bring a guard... like me."

He gnawed open the lock on the warp, and the Dessert Inspection Team medal, left behind by the battle dog last time, fell out, casting a silhouette of Snowball in the moonlight. The potato spirits cheered and tied the medal around Xiaodou's neck with vines, using it as a "farmer's medal."
