Chapter 134 Following Her

Chapter 134 Following Her

Wen Jiu couldn't hear any noise from the room, nor could she get through to Li Yue's phone. Just as she was about to go downstairs to find Captain Liu, she suddenly saw Xie Tinghe walking towards her.

She asked instinctively, "Have you seen Yueyue?"

“Li Yue,” Xie Tinghe nodded, “Yi Yan saw that she was scared, so he took her to his own private room.”

Upon hearing this, Wen Jiu breathed a sigh of relief.

As if afraid she wouldn't be at ease, Xie Tinghe even took out his phone and made a call to confirm again before Wen Jiu's heart finally settled down.

Just as she was about to thank them, the door was pulled open from the inside, and the person who came out exuded a chilling aura.

Wen Jiu's breath hitched for a second, her gaze falling on his hand. Xie Tinghe noticed the bright red mark between his fingers and frowned: "What happened to your hand?"

"Wine," Zhou Yanchuan said without even glancing at it.

"You scared me! Weren't you supposed to be resting because of a headache? What are you doing here?" Xie Tinghe seemed to realize something as soon as he asked the question. He glanced at the girl beside him, his eyes becoming complicated, mixed with something he couldn't understand.

Zhou Yanchuan gave an irrelevant answer: "I'm leaving."

However, he couldn't escape; Old Liu suddenly led a group of people and rushed up.

*

Wen Jiu never imagined that years later, she would be traveling with Zhou Yanchuan in a police car. The car was dimly lit, and she used the rearview mirror to quietly watch him.

He seemed very tired. As soon as he got in the car, he leaned back in his seat, closed his eyes, and pretended to doze off. Apart from being tired, there was no other emotion in his eyes. He didn't look like someone who was about to be taken to the police station for questioning at all.

Wen Jiu looked at him and, for some reason, sensed a hint of loneliness in his eyes.

Xie Tinghe, in another car, looked at the person with shards of glass on their head and gestured with his eyes: "What happened?"

Gu Xu hadn't quite reacted yet, and he just felt completely wronged.

"I just mentioned a prosecutor, that's all."

Upon hearing the word "prosecutor," Xie Tinghe knew roughly what was going on. Moreover, Gu Xu was known for his extravagant lifestyle, and he figured that whatever he said would be related to sleeping around.

“Idiot,” he said.

Over the years, they had never dared to mention Wen Jiu's name in front of Zhou Yanchuan. How could he dare to say such things on their first meeting?

After all that drama back then, she dumped Zhou Yanchuan and then immediately got together with He Shixu. Let alone people like them, even ordinary people couldn't accept it.

But Zhou Yanchuan did nothing and went abroad directly.

Even after all this, he still couldn't bear to touch Wen Jiu. What does that mean? It means that this person is definitely not ordinary to him.

Gu Xu, that idiot, just happened to run right into the line of fire.

*

After getting out of the car, Wen Jiu walked with Lao Liu, his voice disappearing into the night: "I guess we'll have wasted our time tonight."

She understood what he meant and then glanced at the group of people being led by the police.

In the moonlight, the group of people, dressed in fine clothes, showed no fear of the police station on their faces, walking casually with their heads up.

She watched quietly without saying a word.

While Zhou Yanchuan was giving his statement, Wen Jiu stood outside the glass and watched. Old Liu handed her a glass of water and said, "You know him, right?"

"There's nothing I can hide from you."

Old Liu smiled: "It's too obvious."

"What?"

“You usually have a very calm look in your eyes, and sometimes I feel that your composure is not something that someone your age should have. But just now in the car, you made me realize that you are a child the same age as my daughter.”

Wen Jiu smiled, tacitly agreeing, and after a while asked, "When can he leave?"

"He's fine. He can leave after the statement is taken."

"good."

Wen Jiu threw the empty water glass into the trash can and said goodbye, "I'll be going now. Let me know if there are any new developments with Gu Xu."

"Okay, go back and rest now."

The dim yellow light at the entrance of the police station illuminated the snow on the roadside. Wen Jiu walked down the steps and saw the black car not far away.

Her gaze lingered for only a moment before she looked away and continued walking.

“Boss,” Lu Nian said, coming over with an umbrella.

In the wind and snow, Zhou Yanchuan stood motionless on the steps, silently watching the figure walking alone into the night in the distance.

Following his gaze, Lu Nian carefully suggested, "Should we pick up Miss Wen?"

Zhou Yanchuan looked away: "No need."

"Where are you going now?"

"Follow her."

Why didn't he pick her up in the car, but instead followed her?

Lu Nian was surprised, but didn't show it on his face. He bent down to open the car door for the other person.

Snow covered the ground on both sides of the road, and the bare branches swayed in the wind. Zhou Yanchuan watched as a person stopped under a street lamp.

It seemed a bit cold, so I stomped my feet twice while standing still.

The little girl who used to like wearing light-colored clothes has been wearing dark colors the last few times I've seen her. She's standing in the snow in a dark camel coat, with red lips, black hair, and a cool, aloof expression.

She has reached a wonderful age, somewhere between a young girl and a mature woman, possessing the qualities of both.

Zhou Yanchuan's eyes darkened as he watched the person get into the car, then gestured for Lu Nian to follow.

They weren't following very closely; there were several cars between them.

In the quiet carriage, Lu Nian glanced at the people behind him through the rearview mirror and tentatively said, "Boss, it seems there are other people following Miss Wen in that car besides us."

Zhou Yanchuan noticed that for a while now, a black car had been following the taxi that Wen Jiu was in.

"Write down the license plate number and have someone check it."

"yes."

The car drove all the way to the apartment building. Watching the car leave, Zhou Yanchuan said, "You can go back now."

Lu Nian was surprised; was he off work?

After everyone left, Zhou Yanchuan sat in the carriage for a long time, doing nothing but looking up at the windows whose lights were still on, wondering which one she lived in.

*

Wen Jiu went to see the house on Saturday. It wasn't very close to the procuratorate, but fortunately, there was a subway nearby, so she wouldn't have to take a taxi every day.

"If Ms. Wen is sure, I'll draft the rental agreement in the next couple of days. After you've reviewed it and are satisfied, we'll sign the contract," the agent said, seeing that she was interested.

"good."

With the housing issue resolved, Wen Jiu felt much more relaxed. She returned home, put a leash on Xiao Huang, grabbed its toys, and went downstairs.

As she left the residential compound, she ran into Chu Qi, who was patrolling inside. The man greeted her with a smile, "Miss Wen, are you going to walk your little yellow dog?"

Just as Wen Jiu was about to answer, the normally docile giant beside her suddenly bared its teeth and started growling.

"What's wrong?" She reached out and rubbed its head.

Xiao Huang continued to stare at the man, making "woo-woo" sounds, and even seemed about to rush forward.

Wen Jiu realized something was wrong, said "sorry," and left with Xiao Huang.

After walking for a while, Xiao Huang suddenly recovered. Wen Jiu was puzzled and squatted down: "Baby, what happened to you just now?"

"Woof woof".

She stroked its head: "Don't you like that man?"

Little Yellow barked twice more and looked up at the window.

Wen Jiu stood up and looked, but didn't understand what it meant.

Just then, Xiao Huang dragged her and ran back into the building they had just come out of.

Wen Jiu was almost knocked down by its sudden sprint. When she got to the elevator, Xiao Huang started jumping and pawing at it.

Seeing its behavior, Wen Jiu could vaguely sense that it wanted to say something to her, and tentatively asked, "Are you going upstairs to go home?"

"Woof."

She pressed the button.

As soon as the elevator reached the eleventh floor and the doors opened, Xiao Huang rushed towards home with her. However, instead of running to the front door, it ran to the meter room next door. As soon as it stopped, it started barking "woof woof woof" at the meter room.

Wen Jiu was initially a little confused, until at one moment, a thought suddenly flashed through her mind: "Miss Wen, there's no one here, don't worry."

Her fingers felt cold, and she suddenly understood something.
