0101 Surviving (3)
98. Surviving by stealing a living (3)
In the stillness of the night, countless stars twinkled in the deep sky, circling a crescent moon that resembled a sickle.
The subtle pain, growing from shallow to deep, struck the deepest part of his body. Tonight, a pair of warm, large hands tightly enveloped his weak fingers, and a power as intense as sunlight flowed into his body from afar, as if to comfort him, or as if to show him affection.
Sweat had already soaked the stray hairs on his forehead, which were then gently brushed aside.
The mole at the corner of his eye twitched slightly with his trembling, possessing a broken beauty.
Such pain is unbearable and unbearable, so the meaning of endurance is always hard to find, which only highlights the strength of his will.
But the intense pain lasted too long tonight, and the warmth of the hand holding his own made him feel dazed in his dream.
He seemed to have returned to the warm home of his childhood.
If Dad is coming home, Mom always starts preparing well in advance. Once the whole family is together, Mom and Dad take turns hugging and kissing him.
The dream drifted back to his twelfth birthday. As the waves swept him away, he clearly heard his father say on the other end of the computer half an hour earlier that he would come back in two days to celebrate his birthday. When he opened his eyes again, his family was destroyed and his people were dead.
The intense sense of despair overwhelmed him once again. He truly hoped that when he opened his eyes, he would find that this nightmare, which had lasted for more than ten years, was just a dream.
The sweat that trickled down to the corners of his eyes looked like tears. When he opened his eyes, everything in front of him was still blurry. In this blur, he saw his father who had lifted him up on his shoulders when he was a child.
That warm, large hand will always be bigger than his.
He saw a glimmer of tears in his father's always sharp eyes...
In the afternoon, he suddenly collapsed due to his illness. Lingling called a nurse, who suggested that he be taken to the hospital immediately. She forced herself to calm down and quickly called Wan Qiqi using the residential hotline, but the call was intercepted halfway through. The call was transferred to an unfamiliar male voice; this man was Wan Qibo, who had just arrived in the country.
He arranged for personnel to transport the person to the hospital as quickly as possible in a military vehicle with white license plates. On the way there, he had already chatted for a long time with his former military doctor comrades, and the most authoritative experts in the field had already boarded a special plane to China.
This kid doesn't want treatment?
He'll tie him to the hospital bed even if he has to!
But when he saw his son, writhing in pain and emaciated beyond recognition, he could no longer be as heartless as he had been years ago.
He had the opportunity to meet the young girl beside him who took such good care of his son many years ago, but because he was too arrogant and stubborn, he made one mistake after another, and had already hurt his child badly.
Wanqi Fuze was shocked when he saw his father. He knew this day would come sooner or later, but he still couldn't help feeling apprehensive.
Allowing the living to say goodbye to their loved ones in advance is by no means a simple matter.
Unexpectedly, his father did not act as aggressively as he had imagined. Instead, he silently wrung out a handkerchief and placed it on his forehead, just as he had done when his father was sick as a child.
Such silence made him wish his father would slap him like before; that would be more comforting. Seeing his father's reddened eyes was more unbearable than any physical pain.
At this point, he was truly unfilial.
For two days in a row, Wan Qibo took care of him. Unlike Lingling, who was always talking, the father and son were usually silent all day long.
Wan Qibo slept on a small single bed arranged just for him in the hospital room. In the middle of the night, Wan Qifuze heard his father turning over and knew that he had a backache that he had developed when he was young. It was an endless torment to make his father, who was over fifty years old, suffer along with him.
So for some reason, he took the initiative to request a consultation with experts.
He pretended not to see the fleeting excitement on his father's face, which completely melted away his years-old icy demeanor.
Unexpectedly, even after he left the ward and decided to have a consultation, he did not see Lingling.
He couldn't help feeling a little flustered. He thought maybe his father didn't like Lingling, or maybe Lingling was deliberately giving them time alone together.
But he was worried that Lingling would suffer even the slightest injustice.
He swallowed the words that were on the tip of his tongue several times. He didn't dare ask his father, so he could only secretly send messages to Wan Qiqi when everyone was discussing his condition.
Fortunately, that guy was very helpful and replied quickly, saying that Lingling's parents had come to B City and that Lingling was with them right now, so he didn't need to worry.
Wanqi Fuze was finally relieved.
He just didn't know if Wan Qiqi had told Lingling about his willingness to consult. He thought that if Lingling knew, she would be overjoyed.
She might even jump up and give him a big kiss.
He didn't realize that he had long since lost his initial worry about the outcome. Instead, he felt a hidden sense of grievance because he didn't receive Lingling's praise.
That's what he said, but when he saw his father come out with a serious expression after finishing his conversation with the doctors, his heart jumped.
Fortunately, Lingling wasn't around, otherwise she might have been even more nervous than him. But he also wished she were there, because she wanted to hear good news, and all he wanted was for his family and her to be happy.
His father didn't say much to him, and he didn't bother to ask.
He suddenly remembered the "scheme" he had discussed with his father a month ago, in which he asked his uncle to keep his illness a secret. Although Lingling already knew about it, he had lied to her first, and he wondered if Lingling would be angry if she found out.
Thinking this, Wan Qibo pushed his wheelchair back to the ward, where the two of them saw Mr. and Mrs. He who had been waiting for a long time in front of the door.
Wanqibo stepped forward and shook hands with the two men with utmost respect. Wanqifuze, however, had no time to wonder why his father recognized them at a glance; a nameless panic gripped his heart.
He asked anxiously, "Uncle and Aunt, where's Lingling?"
Wan Qibo then spoke the first harsh word he had uttered to him in all these days: "You have no sense of propriety."
Wanqijia always valued how he treated others. He had indeed lost his composure because he was in a hurry, so he quickly greeted He Yundong and Zhao Mei again.
He was sitting in his wheelchair when he saw Aunt He, with red eyes, bend down and say to him, "Yi Xu, you've suffered so much."
Zhao Mei had been sincere towards this child ever since she first met him when she was young. Especially after learning about her daughter's feelings, she treated him as her own child.
Not long ago, Yi Xu suddenly left her house without saying goodbye. Yi Xu always valued courtesy and etiquette, so she knew things weren't simple.
After much questioning, her husband finally revealed the truth to her.
She felt a pang of sadness; it turned out that Yi Xu was seriously ill, thinking of everyone but herself.
She came to City B this time to see the child grow up safely.
They never expected that on their very first night after rushing there, they would find their daughter lying in bed, sick and exhausted.
Lingling fainted after Fuze had passed away; she even stepped into the carriage with one foot before collapsing. Fortunately, Wanqi Bo was there to look after Fuze, and Lingling was taken to a private hospital by Wanqi Qi, who arrived later.
The doctor said it was because he was too tired when he came in, and his mental state was also tense, so he collapsed.
From the day she was brought in, Lingling started having a low-grade fever and her whole body was covered in red rashes. No cause could be found, and the doctor said it was probably due to her emotions.
Only Mr. and Mrs. He, who had rushed over, remained silent.
They had seen their daughter like this once before.
When Lingling was in her second year of high school, the little dog named "Xingxing" that her daughter had found died of illness for no apparent reason. Lingling was living at school at the time, and when she got home and didn't see Xingxing, she was extremely anxious, but even though she was young, she had a premonition.
Xingxing has always been in poor health, especially since she was abandoned on the roadside before she was weaned, so she is constantly getting minor illnesses.
At the dinner table, Zhao Mei hesitated several times before finally telling her daughter about it briefly.
Lingling didn't show any sadness at the time, and Zhao Mei thought her daughter was just oblivious or that she didn't have a deep enough bond with the puppy.
That very night, Lingling started to have a fever and broke out in rashes all over her body. When she went to the doctor, the doctor couldn't figure out the cause either.
When a person is excessively sad, their body reacts before their emotions do.
He Lingling also thought of the sudden illness she had suffered when she was young. She had been bedridden day and night, her consciousness hazy and her memory mostly unclear. She only remembered taking a long leave of absence, and when she returned to school, it was the first time she had seen Aze angry.
He said he was going crazy because he couldn't find her for so long...
But this time she didn't dare to sleep for too long. She was worried about Aze's illness, afraid that he would quarrel with his father, afraid that he would suffer from unbearable pain, so she woke up quickly.
She woke up to find the person she had been longing for sitting in a wheelchair by her bedside, watching her.
He Yundong told him the truth.
Zhao Mei originally wanted to keep it a secret, but He Yundong said that they should no longer have anything to hide from each other.
There is a bond between two people that allows them to stay together, and there is a connection that allows for change.
So they let Aze go see Lingling. Once they got through this ordeal, perhaps nothing in this life could ever separate them from their love.
