Chapter 383 The Village That Was Suddenly Repaired

"So, the fire that started yesterday, or at most the day before yesterday, left no trace, not even a skeleton?" Sarah asked Harold, puzzled.

"Judging from the current situation, it seems that's indeed the case. Could it be that this village was a mission set up by the Dean, and therefore there was no one in the village to begin with?" Churchill speculated. He majored in reconnaissance, and he had not seen any life in this small village, except for his group of students.

“Impossible. Even if the Dean sets up a mission site, it wouldn’t be something so illogical. Something must have happened here before. There may not be anyone in the village now, but there must have been people living here before!” Harold shook his head and said.

He smelled many odors here, many of which were masked by the smell of burning, but undeniably, these odors did not come from students who had come to the village; they were lingering in the village from before.

"Unfortunately, there are no clues at the moment. We don't know if it was taken out by the previous students. If that's the case, this mission has become a dead end!" Catherine said with a crying face. The group had traveled for a whole day to get here, thinking they could earn some points, but they found it was a dead end. They were extremely frustrated.

"Let's take it one step at a time, rest first, and talk about it tomorrow!" Harold said, deciding to put the matter aside for now.

After everyone had dinner and set up magical guards, they took turns keeping watch and then rested.

Harold, being a werewolf, was more energetic at night, so he chose the latter half of the night, while Houndoom and the fox-man Churchill were responsible for the first half.

Unfortunately, Harold's night watch didn't come. As the night deepened, darkness gradually enveloped the surroundings, and even the moonlight became much weaker.

When Churchill arrived in the middle of the night, he suddenly felt the darkness around him grow even deeper. Even the fire they had lit could only illuminate a small area in front of them, and there was not a single star in sight. Only the faint light from the window spoke of the tranquility of the night.

"Wait? The window?" Churchill suddenly sat up, his abrupt movement immediately waking the highly vigilant Harold.

"What's wrong?"

"The surrounding environment has changed!"

Churchill answered instinctively, his gaze sweeping around, and the two men immediately felt a chill run down their spines.

They originally lived in a pile of ruins, without windows or even a roof!

Now, we are in a closed room, with some furniture such as tables and chairs. The faint moonlight is shining in from the window, illuminating the ground outside with a patch of white.

"Wake them up!" Harold said in a deep voice, already pressed himself against the window, looking outside.

The familiar village scenery appeared before his eyes again, but this time the village was undamaged, with simple houses standing there, quiet and peaceful.

"What's going on? What happened?" Sarah, Catherine, and Hruga woke up and looked at Churchill with puzzled expressions. But when they learned that the surrounding environment had been repaired, they all shuddered and instantly woke up from their drowsiness.

“Churchill, Heruka, do you see if there are any useful clues in the room? As for you, think about what methods you might have to recreate a scene,” Harold instructed without turning around.

"Restore a scene? A healing spell? Or a spacetime spell? But these kinds of spells have been lost for a long time, and very few people can master them..." The erudite Sarah answered subconsciously, but then paused at the end.

“It’s been lost for a long time, but that was in our world. This is a primordial planet. Who knows if it’s really lost? Don’t forget, the library does have a small number of books on space-related topics, and that little goblin teacher mainly teaches about spacetime,” Catherine added.

“I’ll give it a try!” Catherine’s words surprised everyone. Then Sarah gritted her teeth and said, closing her eyes and entering meditation, trying to sense the changes in the surrounding elements.

In the eyes of a magician, everything around them is traceable, and any change in anything is inevitably accompanied by a change in the elements. Therefore, what Sarah is currently perceiving is the change in the spacetime elements around her. Of course, there is also a difference between time elements and space elements.

However, neither of these two elements is Sarah's major magic, so it is not easy to sense them. Even after studying and being taught at the academy for so many years, she has never sensed the existence of these two elements. Now she is just gritting her teeth and pushing forward.

As expected, a full half hour passed, and Sarah still found nothing, clearly indicating that she hadn't sensed the presence of either of the two magical elements. In contrast, Harold and the others found quite a few useful items in the room.

"Here is a diary, written in Chinese!" Churchill said, holding up a worn little notebook. It contained some simple records of the owner's experiences, but it seemed that the owner was not very literate, as the diary was brief and contained a lot of pinyin.

"On September 1st, that annoying guy came back. Nobody in the village likes him. What does he want to do back here?"

"On September 2nd, oh, the village chief actually let him stay in the village. This will bring bad luck to everyone. I suspect he's back for revenge!"

"..."

"September 28th, sure enough, he came back for revenge. People in the village have been dying one after another, and some have started to flee. He's a jinx!"

"On October 5th, there weren't many people left in the village. Some had fled, some had died, and I couldn't stay here any longer. I had to leave!"

"I left on October 7th. Let him die along with this damned village!"

"..."

The diary entries are fragmented, but they end here, clearly indicating that the diary's owner is no longer alive, either dead or gone.

“But from the contents of the diary, it can be seen that the fire in the village was definitely man-made, and it must be closely related to this ‘him’!” Harold said, flipping through the contents of the diary. Fortunately, the contents of the diary were not long, otherwise, the huge amount of pinyin inside would have made people’s scalps tingle.

"So 'he' is still alive? Should we go out and look for him?" Houndoom asked doubtfully, feeling that staying in the room wouldn't yield any more clues.

Just then, Sarah, who had been in meditation, suddenly opened her eyes and her expression changed drastically. Without saying a word, she grabbed everyone and ran out of the room.

"Run! The fire element energy is rising rapidly; a fire is about to break out here!"
