"And what about your friend?"
He has guests.
"oh."
"Should we find an inn to stay in now, or continue wandering around?"
"Of course I'll go for a spin. I want to check out the tea shops, especially the official tea." She wouldn't even disembark if it were just for a meal.
“Alright, let’s go then.” Bai Shalu stepped forward.
Mu Run followed behind him. But after walking only a few steps out of the private room, she felt someone was watching her. That gaze made her feel very uncomfortable, her skin crawling with unease.
As she was going down the stairs, she suddenly called out to Bai Shalu, "Brother Bai, wait a moment."
Bai Shalu turned back.
Mu Run quickly walked over and, to Bai Shalu's surprise, took his arm.
Bai Shalu froze. Such intimate actions were only done by family members or lovers. What was she trying to do?!
Just as she took Bai Shalu's arm, the gaze that had initially made her uncomfortable suddenly intensified, as if a sharp blade was about to graze her neck, sending chills down her spine.
After confirming that it was because of Bai Shalu, Mu Run released him, saying, "Who is your friend? I don't want to be dragged into this innocently."
"Innocently caught in the crossfire?" Bai Shalu didn't understand her meaning at first, but after thinking about it carefully, he vaguely understood. Then he looked towards the private room with the character "寅" on the "地" floor and saw a piece of moon-white clothing flash by.
Bai Shalu looked at Mu Run again, "You're quite vigilant."
"Forced by life's circumstances." Living with Fu Yunchen, she couldn't possibly not be tall.
"..."
When Mu Run asked Bai Shalu how much the meal cost, he didn't say, only that he would ask Fu Yunchen for an account, so she didn't ask any further. Besides, she didn't need to feel embarrassed about spending his money on the trip. She could always pay Fu Yunchen back after she sold the tea.
The official tea of Minzhou was made into tea bricks according to the imperial court's requirements, which facilitated transportation and trade. Generally, official tea was not sold outside the region, but if the harvest was good and the imperial court had collected enough, any surplus would be brought out and sold at a price 20% higher than what the imperial court had purchased. It would often be snapped up as soon as it hit the shelves.
Mu Run entered the official tea shop.
The shopkeeper was checking the accounts when he saw someone arrive. He immediately stopped what he was doing and asked, "Is there anything you need, young lady?"
“I want to buy official tea,” Mu Run said.
The shopkeeper looked apologetic. "Unfortunately, we're out of official tea, but we do have some loose tea. Would you like to take a look, young lady?"
“Okay,” Mu Run replied.
The shopkeeper went to the shelf to get the tea.
Bai Shalu said to Mu Run, "If you want official tea, I might be able to get it for you."
Mu Run looked at him, recalling the unfriendly gaze he had received in the restaurant... He might have friends here, but if he asked for tea, he would owe them a favor.
"No need. I'll just buy some to sample and learn about the tea here."
Bai Shalu didn't say anything more, watching her order several kinds of tea from the shopkeeper. When it was time to pay, she looked at him again...
As he left the tea shop, Mu Run looked at the few light packets of tea in his hand. "They're really expensive. Just a little over half a catty cost more than thirty taels of silver!"
"Tea is not cheap, especially good tea."
"Hmm, it seems that my decision to return to my old profession was the right one."
Returning to her old ways? Bai Shalu squinted and looked at her.
Mu Run, unaware that she had let something slip, was still calculating how much to sell her tea for.
