She turned her gaze away, lowered her head to tidy up her violin, and busied herself as if she hadn't seen him at all.
Xu Ziyu saw her turn around and crouch down with her back to him, and he knew that she was still angry about his going abroad.
"Are you feeling better?" He glanced at her bedside table, where there were many cold medicines, anti-inflammatory drugs, fever reducers, and a half-finished bottle of water that had stopped steaming.
Luo Xikui didn't want to appear stubborn, so she gave a faint "hmm" and continued with her own business, as if she had so many things to do that she couldn't stop.
But in reality, she had nothing to do; she was just pretending to tidy up the bookshelf. However, the bookshelf was so neat and tidy that her tidying seemed superfluous.
"Why don't you sit down and rest for a while?" Xu Ziyu walked to her bookshelf. Most of her books were sheet music, and the other shelf of CDs was filled with violin pieces and classical music.
Luo Xikui acted as if she hadn't heard anything and continued tidying up, even standing on tiptoe to reach the top book.
Unexpectedly, he accidentally knocked over a crystal trophy next to him, and just as it was about to fall, it was caught by a hand in a flash.
"Be careful," Xu Ziyu said with a hint of helplessness, handing the crystal glass back to her.
Luo Xikui took the crystal glass. She had won it when she was 12 years old in a youth violin competition. Three years had passed in the blink of an eye.
"My flight is at 5 PM on the 12th," Xu Ziyu said softly.
Luo Xikui said "Oh," and tiptoed to put the crystal glass back on the top shelf. She had some difficulty standing on tiptoe, and looking up, she couldn't see whether she had put it back in its original position.
At that moment, a slender, fair hand with distinct knuckles grasped her hand and guided her to place the crystal glass in its proper position.
After placing it down, she immediately withdrew her hand and turned to walk in another direction.
They grew up together, yet she felt so awkward and out of place in his presence.
"Did you come to see me off that day?" Xu Ziyu asked, turning his gaze back to her.
"I'm not going," Luo Xikui blurted out, refusing outright. She really didn't want to go; she couldn't bear the scene of seeing him off, afraid she would embarrass herself and start crying again.
"Oh." Xu Ziyu didn't try to persuade her, and after a faint reply, the room fell silent.
Luo Xikui simply threw back the covers and lay down on the bed, saying, "I want to rest."
After she finished speaking, she pulled the thin blanket up to her chin, covered herself completely, and closed her eyes.
Xu Ziyu watched her quietly for a while, and seeing that she had no intention of opening her eyes again, he put the thing in his hand on the bedside table and said in a low voice, "Then I'm leaving."
She pretended to be asleep and didn't hear anything. After a while, she heard the door close and the sound of footsteps fading away.
She opened her eyes and turned to look at the bedside table. There was a small rabbit, about the size of a palm, on it. Although it was plastic, it was very well made and looked very lifelike, holding a carrot.
She reached out and took the rabbit, poked its pink nose, and said in a hoarse voice, "You naughty thing."
Unexpectedly, the rabbit suddenly made a sound, uttering only two words: "Wait for me."
It was Xu Ziyu's voice.
Suddenly, her nose started to sting.
Hmph, what does this mean? She can't even explain clearly why she should wait for him, or why she should wait for him.
Who is he? Is he some big shot?
"Bad thing, bad thing." Luo Xikui poked it several times, the two words kept replaying. She was both angry and annoyed, and muttered, "He's about to leave, and he didn't even say a few more words. Bastard."
Finally, she poked the rabbit's nose until she was completely satisfied before she stopped.
