After finishing breakfast, Luo Xikui sat down in the chair in front of the floor-to-ceiling window.
The sun was shining brightly, its warmth bathing her.
She lowered her head, huddled in the high collar of her oversized white sweater, looking like a fluffy little rabbit.
Xu Ziyu sat opposite her, watching her without saying a word. He had a feeling that she knew the purpose of his visit.
"Didn't you say you had something to talk to me about?" Luo Xikui had been preparing for this for a while, but before he could speak, she couldn't help but say first, "Go ahead and say it. I have to go to the recording studio later."
Xu Ziyu looked at her downcast face and said, "I'm not used to talking to thin air. Lift your face up."
Luo Xikui didn't move. What she was afraid of was that if she raised her face, he would see through her lie.
“If you don’t lift it up, I’ll assume you’re lying to me,” Xu Ziyu said directly.
That's the downside of childhood sweethearts; he sees through everything before she even does anything.
Luo Xikui pursed her lips, raised her face to look at him, and said, "You can say it now."
"Four years ago..."
"Don't mention four years ago!" Luo Xikui's face turned ugly, and her voice rose.
She didn't know if she was overacting, but the situation was already set in stone, and she had no choice.
"Why can't I mention it? You know what I want to say?" Xu Zi's expression seemed genuine when he met her, and his brow furrowed slightly.
"You went to check, didn't you? What did you find out?" Luo Xikui was glad that she had just recovered from her illness. Her face was a little pale, and with her lips trembling slightly, she could bring out 80 or 90% of her acting skills.
Xu Ziyu saw that she was a little agitated, and his heart sank slightly. Her current behavior was as if she was telling him that the surgery report was real.
"Why did you investigate! Why can't you let me go! I'm trying so hard to forget, why did you dig it up!" Luo Xikui's emotions weren't all an act; when she recalled that period, all the suppressed negative emotions came rushing up.
Xu Ziyu watched as she sprang up from her chair, her emotions somewhat out of control. He got up, went over, and hugged her, comforting her: "I don't know anything."
"Don't lie to me, Xu Ziyu, you know everything, don't you? You found out about things from March, or even May?" Luo Xikui pushed him hard, her eyes instantly reddening, biting her lip: "Why won't you let me retain the last bit of dignity!"
Xu Ziyu held her captive, and she became increasingly agitated, even biting his shoulder.
"Let me go, let me go!" Luo Xikui was putting on a show that was 30% acting and 70% real. The thought of never being able to be with him again brought out her hysteria.
Xu Ziyu's left knee was kicked by her, and a sharp pain shot through him, but he still did not let go.
After making a scene, Luo Xikui buried her face in his arms and sobbed, her tears flowing freely. The despair and sorrow she felt came from the bottom of her heart, making it all the more real.
Her tears soaked his shirt, and he felt as if his skin was being burned, a pain far greater than the throbbing in his knees.
He suddenly realized that everything he had experienced four years ago was nothing compared to the suffering she had endured.
He didn't regret his decision to go to Germany back then. What he regretted was that he had put the cart before the horse. During that time, he was so engrossed in his studies that he only wanted to finish his coursework as soon as possible, and he neglected her too much.
He should have been alerted by that phone call at that time.
