When Xu Jiayue saw that Ni Sitian was also watching the Spring Festival Gala, she stuffed a bag of potato chips into Ni Sitian's arms.
Ni Sitian cleared her mind of all the random thoughts, opened the potato chips, and watched TV with her. They ate as they watched, chewing the chips as if they were Xu Tingchuan himself.
When the skit was played, Xu Jiayue laughed heartily, and Ni Sitian was infected by her laughter, her mood improved a little, and she also laughed along.
Xu Tingchuan waited upstairs for a long time, but Ni Sitian didn't come up. So he went downstairs to look for her. He found Ni Sitian watching the Spring Festival Gala and laughing without a care in the world, with a bunch of snacks next to her. She was so happy that she didn't look like she had just had a small argument with him.
He paused for a moment, then turned back and went upstairs.
Ni Sitian just looked up and saw Xu Tingchuan's figure disappear around the corner of the stairs. Did he come to find her to go back to her room? Or did he simply want to go downstairs, but avoided her when he saw her in the living room?
"Haha, Sitian, look!" Xu Jiayue patted the sofa, laughing so hard that tears were almost coming out.
Ni Sitian snapped out of her daze and started laughing too, but she no longer knew what she was laughing at.
Seeing that it was almost midnight, Ni Sitian couldn't stand it any longer and stood up.
"The countdown is almost over, aren't you going to finish watching?" Xu Jiayue looked up at Ni Sitian, who was about to leave.
“I…” Ni Sitian’s gaze drifted toward the stairs.
Xu Jiayue suddenly realized what she meant and winked at her, "You want to countdown to the New Year with my brother, right?"
Ni Sitian was a little embarrassed after being told the truth.
"Go, go." Xu Jiayue waved her hand, no longer trying to stop her.
Ni Sitian smiled at her and quickly walked upstairs.
Pushing open the bedroom door, I saw Xu Tingchuan standing on the balcony smoking. The evening wind was sharp, blowing ash all over the floor.
His back view looked desolate and lonely, making people want to protect him.
Ni Sitian strode over, but just as she was about to do so, she stopped in her tracks.
Finally, he slowed his pace and walked over to him, taking the half-smoked cigarette from his hand.
Xu Tingchuan paused for a moment, then looked down at her.
Ni Sitian stubbed out her cigarette and, as she threw it into the trash, noticed that it contained many cigarette butts and a crumpled cigarette pack.
"You smoked a whole pack?" She frowned; this was the first time she had ever seen someone so heavily addicted to smoking.
He used to smoke when he was upset, but never like this time. Was she upsetting him?
"No, there are only a few cigarettes left in the pack." Xu Tingchuan shook his head slightly and reached out to stroke her long hair, which was ruffled by the wind.
Ni Sitian took a step back, avoiding his hand, and looked him straight in the eye. "What did you promise me?"
Xu Tingchuan's hand stiffened for a moment, then he awkwardly withdrew it, letting out a soft sigh. He had promised her he wouldn't smoke.
"I was wrong, I'm sorry." He humbled himself and reached out to take her hand.
These words had a double meaning, which Ni Sitian understood, and she was slightly moved.
Today is New Year's Eve, and she doesn't want to argue with him.
"Don't smoke anymore." She took a deep breath, exhaled slowly, and whispered, "I don't like it."
Xu Tingchuan pulled Ni Sitian into his arms, gently embraced her, and solemnly replied, "Okay."
Ni Sitian frowned slightly, wrinkled her nose, and pushed him away from the strong smell of tobacco on him.
Seeing her look disgusted by his cigarette smell, Xu Tingchuan flicked her nose with his index finger and said with a faint smile, "I'm going to take a shower."
As he was about to turn around, Ni Sitian grabbed his wrist.
