Chapter 42 Getting to Know Each Other

Xu Tingchuan glanced at her smile, picked up his water glass, lowered his eyes to drink, and concealed the slight upturn of his lips.

Ni Sitian was looking down at the menu and didn't notice the smile on Xu Tingchuan's lips.

She really wasn't good at ordering food, so she just told the waiter a few dishes that she and Xiang Zhilan had eaten together yesterday.

When the dishes were served, she realized that everything she had ordered was on the sweeter side, and Xu Tingchuan never liked sweets.

"How about adding a steamed yellow croaker?" Ni Sitian didn't dare to order randomly anymore and asked him.

"No need." Xu Tingchuan picked up his chopsticks and began to eat slowly and deliberately.

Ni Sitian observed him carefully and, seeing that he seemed normal, picked up her chopsticks with peace of mind.

Inside the private room, only the sound of chopsticks hitting bowls and plates could be heard.

Halfway through the meal, Ni Sitian felt the atmosphere was a bit too dull, so she took the initiative to put a slice of bamboo shoot on Xu Tingchuan's plate.

"This tastes good." She smiled slightly at Xu Tingchuan.

Xu Tingchuan looked at the bamboo shoots in his bowl but didn't touch them immediately, continuing to eat slowly and deliberately.

Ni Sitian noticed that the bamboo shoot slices were still left in the bowl until the very end. She frowned slightly. Did they not like bamboo shoots, or did they not like the ones she picked up?

"I'm allergic to bamboo shoots," Xu Tingchuan explained when he saw her staring at the bamboo shoots.

"I'm sorry." Ni Sitian was annoyed; she hadn't even known that her husband was allergic to bamboo shoots.

"It's okay, we just need to get to know each other better." Xu Tingchuan put down his chopsticks and wiped his mouth.

Ni Sitian completely agreed with him, echoing, "Then you should tell me directly what you like and dislike in the future."

“Not only do I have to do this, but you must too.” Xu Tingchuan looked at her with his dark eyes.

Ni Sitian nodded. Since they were going to take this marriage seriously, they both needed to understand each other better.

However, she didn't expect that she had fallen into Xu Tingchuan's trap as soon as she nodded, and heard him ask indifferently, "In that case, can you tell me what happened at school today?"

Ni Sitian was taken aback, her eyes widening in surprise as she looked at Xu Tingchuan.

“You seemed distracted all afternoon.” Xu Tingchuan took a sip of tea, put down the teacup, rubbed the rim of the cup with his thumb, and quietly looked at her.

His eyes were deep and unfathomable, so sharp that Ni Sitian could hardly resist them.

She thought she had concealed it well, but he still saw through her disguise.

She lowered her eyes, pursed her lips, and hesitated.

Xu Tingchuan waited patiently without urging him on.

After a long silence, Ni Sitian looked up again, met Xu Tingchuan's eyes, and forced a smile, pretending to be relaxed: "There are just some bad gossips circulating."

Xu Tingchuan frowned slightly: "Is it about the last time you were recommended for admission?"

"It's not just that." Ni Sitian didn't know how to tell him; what she said was just too awful.

Seeing that she seemed hesitant, Xu Tingchuan didn't press her to continue.

After lunch, the two left the hotel, and Xiang Zhilan sent Ni Sitian a message, asking her to meet up.

Ni Sitian then asked Xu Tingchuan to take her to that address.

After watching Ni Sitian and Xiang Zhilan meet up, he started the car and drove towards the company.

As soon as I got back to the office, I turned on my computer.

Logging into the Yihai University forum, although the hot post had been deleted, Xu Tingchuan could still deduce from snippets of other posts what kind of rumor Ni Sitian had fallen into.

Looking at those harsh words, his thin lips pressed into a thin line, his eyes darkened, becoming unfathomable.
