Chapter 46 Mind Your Own Business

Dog Egg was overjoyed and took a bag of candy home.

Gu Yanliu looked at Su Nianxue, who had been busy ever since she finished eating.

He asked, "Sister-in-law, what are you doing?"

"I plan to make some tofu first. It's been a while since I've made it, so I'll practice first."

Su Nianxue scooped some soybeans into a basin and soaked them in water.

Soak it overnight, and you can make tofu first thing tomorrow morning.

Gu Yanliu admired this about her; she was very proactive and got to work as soon as she said she would.

"Sister-in-law, let me go with you!"

She brought out a large vat from her house and scrubbed the stone mill in the yard clean.

The two men used a rope to hang the wooden frame they had brought back from the roof beam, and then tied it with gauze, thus making a tofu-filtering frame.

Nothing happened that night, and the two of them got up early the next morning.

First, wash the beans thoroughly, then grind them with a stone mill.

Then, the soy milk in the bucket was scooped into a shaker and filtered, one ladle at a time.

While the villagers were still asleep, the rich aroma of soybeans already filled their courtyards.

Su Nianxue glanced at the soybean dregs in the bowl, her eyes darting around. She then mixed the soybean dregs with flour and fried them into soybean dregs pancakes.

By the time all this was done, the soy milk in the rice bowl had coagulated into tofu pudding.

She picked up a few pancakes and put them in a bowl, then got a bowl of tofu pudding and put them in the basket.

He handed the basket to Gu Yanliu, saying, "Here, take some to Grandpa to try."

"Okay!" Gu Yanliu picked up the basket and ran towards the old house.

Grandpa Gu had just gotten up and was washing his face when he saw her running around like a whirlwind.

She hurriedly said, "Slow down, slow down. You're such a grown-up, why don't you act like a young lady?"

Gu Yanliu stuck out her tongue and opened the basket directly. "Grandpa, try this! My sister-in-law made these soybean dregs pancakes. They're so delicious!"

"You made tofu?"

Grandpa Gu looked at the white, tender tofu pudding in the basket, still slightly steaming, with a look of surprise on his face.

"Yes, Grandpa, my sister-in-law is amazing. She can do everything."

"Here, it's fresh out of the pot, still hot. You should try it." Gu Yanliu's face was full of admiration when she talked about Su Nianxue.

Grandpa Gu agreed with this, as his biggest headache was his grandson's marriage.

That rascal is already twenty-four. In the village, many people his age are already fathers.

But he doesn't even have a girlfriend.

He shamelessly begged countless people for this, but no girl was willing to marry him.

Little did this brat know that his good fortune was yet to come; the wife he married was not only beautiful but also capable.

He was naturally extremely satisfied, and now he was just hoping that the young couple could live a good life together.

Seeing his granddaughter's expectant expression, he smiled and said, "Your sister-in-law is a good person and does things well. You should learn from her."

And another thing, you, as the sister-in-law, should stop meddling in your brother and sister-in-law's affairs, do you hear me?

If you don't behave, I'll beat you up.

"Okay, Grandpa, I'm tired of hearing you say that."

To avoid further lecturing, Gu Yanliu solicitously picked up the chopsticks and handed them to him.

Grandpa Gu smiled, clearly annoyed that he was being long-winded.

However, he could tell that the two women got along quite well, so he didn't say anything more.

He picked up a pancake, took a bite, and then ate some tofu pudding. "Mmm, your sister-in-law's cooking is really good."

"That's right!" Gu Yanliu's eyes darted around. "Grandpa, can I ask you for a favor?"

"Tell me what it is?" Old Master Gu was in a great mood and took it on with a wave of his hand.

"That's right, my brother won't let us sell tofu."

"If my brother beats me up tomorrow, can you help me?" She was also thinking of taking on the task of making tofu herself.

"Don't worry, I'll help you."

But why doesn't he allow you to sell tofu?

Isn't this a good thing?

Gu Yanbai had informed him about his plan to give away the family's land.

However, he adhered to the principle that his grandson was already married and an adult.

I didn't want to interfere too much in their affairs, so I let the couple discuss it themselves.

"My brother said selling tofu was too tiring, so he suggested we sell bean sprouts instead."

But my sister-in-law said selling tofu is more profitable, and she plans to do it often, so…

"Alright, I understand. Don't worry about it. Let them handle their own affairs."

"Don't get involved." Old Master Gu wasn't worried at all.

In his opinion, the young man had a bad temper and his granddaughter-in-law was stubborn; they needed to work on their personalities.

However, in his opinion, this matter would most likely end with his own son making concessions.

By noon, the family was finally able to eat fresh tofu.

Of course, the old man's share wasn't missing either.

The three of them ate to their hearts' content, especially Gu Yanliu.

"Sister-in-law, the tofu we make ourselves tastes the best."

"You think it's alright?"

"Yes, it's absolutely amazing! I think it tastes even better than what they sell in town," Gu Yanliu said confidently, rubbing her stomach.

"Alright, let's try making some tofu at the next market."

Soon, it was market day again.

The two men carried two slabs of tofu to the town's market and found a corner to sell their tofu.

Strangely enough, I didn't see Aunt Luhua or Aunt Lanhua today.

Is it because he was beaten up last time and is scared now?

Su Nianxue shook her head and stopped paying attention to other people's business.
