Chapter 139 Face to Face

Chapter 139 Face to Face

Faced with Si Zuochen's questioning, Gu Nan's eyes flickered slightly, and she looked embarrassed, unsure of how to answer.

Surely we can't tell the truth that we were hospitalized because Si Yanxiao was so angry that he suffered a heart attack, right?

Silently pondering a satisfactory explanation, Si Youlin, seeing Gu Nan remain silent, couldn't help but urge her, "Uncle Anan, what exactly is the reason?"

Seeing Gu Nan's thoughtful expression, Si Zuochen understood that there must be another reason for this matter, otherwise he wouldn't be so hesitant.

Thinking of this, his face turned cold, and he bluntly said, "We want to hear the truth. If you're just going to make up some excuse to fob us off, then we won't say anything more."

“We’ll know the reason when Grandpa wakes up, but your image in our hearts will be greatly diminished.”

Si Zuochen's words carried a hint of threat, and Gu Nan naturally understood his unspoken meaning.

He was gambling with their relationship, and implying that if he didn't take this opportunity, he wouldn't trust him as much in the future.

Thinking of this, Gu Nan pursed her lips slightly. As soon as she raised her eyes, she met the scrutinizing gaze of her superior, Zuo Chen.

Startled, I was instantly caught in a dilemma.

Just then, Si Yanxiao's voice came from behind: "What are you doing here?"

Upon hearing this, Gu Nan felt as if she had been granted a pardon. She quickly turned to look at him, her eyes flashing with a frantic expression, but she explained, "It's nothing. They were just worried about the old man's condition and asked him about it."

Upon seeing this, Si Yanxiao immediately understood, nodded slightly, and then said, "Go and take Uncle Chen back to the villa, and bring over Father's toiletries."

Upon hearing this, Gu Nan was taken aback for a moment, then realized that he had deliberately sent her away, and a look of gratitude flashed across her face.

He quickly replied, "Okay, I'll go right away."

After saying that, she waved slightly to Si Zuochen and Si Youlin. Upon seeing this, Si Zuochen looked at Gu Nan with suspicion, his face full of doubt. However, Gu Nan seemed not to notice and turned to leave.

Si Zuochen watched his figure gradually disappear around the corner, then turned to look at Si Yanxiao with a displeased expression.

He asked in a cold voice, "Daddy, I still have something to ask you."

Si Yanxiao replied in a low voice with a calm expression, "Then we'll talk about it when he comes back after he finishes his business. The doctor just came out and said that Grandpa is out of danger and can be transferred to a ward for further observation."

Hearing his words of comfort, Si Zuochen and Si Youlin exchanged a slow glance, their anxiety easing slightly.

"Let's go." Si Yanxiao said slowly, and walked towards the ward.

A hint of hesitation flashed across Si Zuochen's face, then he suddenly called out, "Daddy!"

Si Yanxiao paused upon hearing this, turned to look at him, and raised an eyebrow: "What is it?"

Si Zuochen lowered his eyes slightly, a struggle flashing in his eyes. After a moment's thought, he had already made up his mind.

She spoke up, questioning, "Isn't what you're doing incredibly unfair to Jiang Ran?"

Upon hearing this, Si Yanxiao was taken aback, not expecting that he would actually stand up for Jiang Ran.

Si Youlin looked at him in surprise and quickly reached out to pull him back, signaling him to tone it down. Si Zuochen, however, didn't care at all and looked straight at Si Yanxiao, his eyes filled with a hint of scrutiny. Si Yanxiao saw this and a hint of displeasure flashed in his heart.

They believe that Si Zuochen's actions were entirely due to Jiang Ran's secret manipulation and deliberate attempts to curry favor.

Thinking of this, a shadow crossed his eyes, and he parted his thin lips slightly, slowly saying, "You're speaking up for her?"

Si Zuochen's eyes flickered slightly, but his face showed no sign of backing down. He replied directly, "I am not biased towards anyone; I am just speaking from the perspective of an observer."

Upon hearing this, Si Yanxiao's lips curled slightly, and he scoffed coldly, "A bystander?"

"Since you put it that way, then let's go over it properly."

Si Zuochen listened and looked at him seriously, appearing to be listening attentively.

“You only see the surface of things and she was wronged, but I never had any feelings for her. We only got to this point because of the circumstances.”

"I was in a coma for six years. When I woke up, I suddenly had a wife, but the woman I loved was nowhere to be found. Who can I talk to about this grievance?"

He paused slightly as he spoke, his eyes filled with undisguised sarcasm, before continuing.

"If there's anything unfair about it, it was already unfair when I was in a coma!"

He kept these words to himself and never mentioned them to anyone else. It was like a huge stone pressing on his heart, making it hard for him to breathe.

Now that I've poured everything out, I feel a sense of relief. I suddenly realize that I was a bit agitated just now, and I'm about to speak up to calm things down.

But then he saw that Si Zuochen and Si Youlin's expressions turned ugly instantly, and he realized that he had misspoke.

“Ah Chen…” Si Yanxiao quickly spoke up to explain.

Si Zuochen shook his head, interrupting him abruptly, and said with a self-deprecating laugh, "I know that all of this was done while you were unconscious, which is why you find it hard to accept."

"So, does that mean the existence of us two brothers also makes you feel extremely ashamed?"

As she spoke, her lips tightened, her face expressionless, and she coldly looked at Si Yanxiao, her eyes devoid of any warmth.

He only now realized how foolish his accusations had been, and he was still thinking of standing up for Jiang Ran.

Little did they know that they themselves were a joke.

No wonder he had always been so distant from them; it wasn't that he didn't know how to communicate with them, but rather that he placed them on the same level as Jiang Ran.

Thinking of this, Fu scoffed again: "Now that I think about it carefully, you can only be so kind to us by suppressing the disgust in your heart. It must have been hard for you."

Si Zuochen's words were sarcastic, but Si Yanxiao didn't care about that. His expression changed, and he quickly spoke up to explain.

"You've misunderstood me, it's not like that..."

Si Zuochen pursed his lips, his eyes flashing with disappointment and mockery as he looked at him. Then he pulled Si Youlin over, and the two of them bowed deeply to him together.

Si Yanxiao's words, which were about to come out, stopped abruptly. A look of surprise flashed across his face, and he didn't understand what they meant.

Si Zuochen then spoke up, saying, "There's no point in saying more. We understand what you mean."

She paused briefly, pursed her lips slightly, and then said, "Let's go outside and wait for Grandpa Chen."

Having said that, without paying any attention to Si Yanxiao's expression, she pulled Si Youlin and turned to leave.

Si Yanxiao wanted to call for them to stop, but recalling the look he had just given him, he hesitated for a moment, and they were already out of sight.

Looking down in the direction they left, a crack finally appeared on Si Yanxiao's perpetually icy face, and a hint of regret flashed across his expression.

He had just blurted it out, never expecting that his words would spark so many thoughts in his mind.

On the other side, Si Zuochen pulled Si Youlin and walked aimlessly outside. Seeing that he was emotionally unstable, Si Youlin quickly comforted him from the side.

"Brother, what's wrong with you? Why are you suddenly so angry?"

As he spoke, a hint of shock crept into his voice. It was because Si Zuochen and he were usually at opposite ends of the spectrum. Si Zuochen had a very strong sense of empathy, which caused his emotions to fluctuate greatly, and he often did reckless things.

Si Zuochen, on the other hand, never showed any sign of trouble, but today...

Upon hearing this, Si Zuochen pursed his lips slightly, his mind filled with a myriad of thoughts.

Just as he was lost in thought, the two passed by the ward. Si Youlin glanced up casually and suddenly saw a familiar figure in the room.

Upon seeing this, Si Youlin was startled and exclaimed in surprise, "Brother! Look, look!"

Upon hearing this, Si Zuochen snapped out of his reverie, his brow furrowing slightly as he looked in the direction the man was pointing: "What are you looking at?"

Then his eyes flashed, and a look of surprise appeared on his face. He hadn't expected to see Jiang Ran here.

Upon closer inspection, one would notice that her face was pale, her arm was wrapped in gauze, and her brows were furrowed even more.

Si Youlin, standing nearby, spoke up in confusion: "You were fine when you parted ways at the cemetery, how could you have gotten injured?"

After saying that, her brows furrowed slightly, and a look of worry appeared on Si Zuochen's face. But then she saw a man inside serving her tea and water, taking meticulous care of her.

She lowered her eyes slightly and said softly, "Let's go."

In the past, he would definitely have stepped forward to make sarcastic remarks, but whether it was because he had changed his opinion of her recently or because he was still immersed in Si Yanxiao's words, he no longer had that intention.

Upon hearing this, Si Youlin paused, hesitating slightly: "Are we really not going in?"

Si Zuochen suddenly scoffed, glanced at the room, then looked away again: "What are you going in for? To disturb them?"
