Chapter 34 Treasure Revealed

Jiang Chengyi quickly pulled him back, reminding him, "Father, now is not the time to talk about these things. Don't forget the great news!"

"Oh right, your elder brother is really more trouble than he's worth!" The Marquis of Loyalty's attention was drawn back.

"What incredible good news?" Jiang Chengzong asked curiously.

"You came along too, saying there's a treasure to dig up. It must be a divine artifact that tells your third sister-in-law the news. I reckon it must be very heavy." Marquis Zhongyi leaned closer and whispered in his eldest son's ear.

Upon hearing about the divine artifact, Jiang Chengzong knew it was something the system had mentioned, and immediately took it seriously.

Led by the Marquis of Loyalty and Righteousness, they walked all the way to Pine and Cypress Residence.

Three guards were already waiting at the entrance of the courtyard. They were all loyal and righteous men trained by the Marquis of Zhongyi, and they were absolutely capable of keeping secrets. There was also a pile of hoes and shovels on the ground.

"Dad, did this pie end up in my yard?" Jiang Chengyi was slightly taken aback.

"Yes, so this windfall has fallen into your lap!"

"It was in my yard, and I didn't even know it?" He was quite surprised.

"Of course, there are many things you don't know!" Marquis Zhongyi said, handing him an iron shovel.

The group opened the courtyard gate and went straight in, heading directly for the garden.

"Dig! The treasure is inside!" As soon as the Marquis of Loyalty finished speaking, he shoveled the iron shovel into the ground.

Jiang Chengyi's eyelids twitched wildly, and his heart was in his throat.

"Father, are you sure you're not mistaken? There can't possibly be any treasure here!"

"Why not? I say it's possible, and it is!"

"I've dug, I've dug three feet into the ground, but there's really no treasure!" Jiang Chengyi said urgently.

He buried so many shady things inside, so naturally we had to dig three feet into the ground to find them.

"Get out of the way, don't block my path to wealth." Marquis Zhongyi felt his youngest son was in the way, so he shoved him aside and turned to the guards behind him, saying, "There's a lot of stuff, and it might be hidden quite deep. Put in some effort, and if you find the treasure, there will be a generous reward!"

Upon hearing this, the guards became even more energetic, wildly swinging their hoes and shovels, their afterimages visible.

"Huh, it looks like we've dug something up?"

Jiang Chengzong had only shoveled a few times when his shovel hit something hard.

Everyone looked over immediately, and when he dug away the soil, he saw several white bones and frowned.

"This bone is so small, it's not human, it must be from some animal."

They were all veterans of the battlefield, so they could naturally tell the difference.

“I dug one up too—” a guard began, but his triumphant tone quickly dropped: “It’s still bones.”

"Hiss, this time it's not bones, it's corpses, from five birds."

They all dug up something, but what they found wasn't gold or silver, but bones and corpses.

Not only birds and mice, but later they also dug up cats, dogs, chickens, ducks, calves and so on.

A deathly silence fell over the garden. The men's shovels never stopped, but no one uttered a sound.

The Marquis of Loyalty's face went from beaming with joy to turning ashen, ashen, and as somber as the bottom of a pot.

He finally understood the meaning of that note: it really was a case of digging up a hole and getting no word out.
