Chapter 46 She Doesn't Care, He Does
Her gaze remained fixed on Shang Xu, her eyes as dark as the deep night sky, making it impossible to guess what she was thinking. Even after the last piece of Shang Xu's clothing disappeared around the corner, Yan Yize did not look away.
The moment Li Huai'an saw Shang Xu, a strong sense of crisis arose from the bottom of his heart. Witnessing Yan Yize's special treatment of him, his eyes turned bloodshot with jealousy, and he wished he could rush forward and take his place.
Seeing him leave, Li Huai'an breathed a sigh of relief. He glanced in the direction Shang Xu had gone, his face expressionless, but the color in his eyes deepened, clearly indicating that he now regarded Shang Xu as an enemy.
Li Huai'an lowered his eyes for a moment and stepped forward, gazing longingly at Yan Yize's graceful figure. He hesitated several times, wanting to speak but then stopped. Seeing that she had no intention of paying attention to him, he felt a surge of resentment towards Shang Xu, but he didn't show it on his face. He blinked and pretended to be ignorant, taking the initiative to speak.
"Your Highness, who was that brother just now?"
Li Huai'an knew that he couldn't compare to the man from before in terms of looks alone, so he didn't hesitate to pinch his waist hard. Instantly, a thin layer of mist appeared in his dark and bright eyes, and his slightly immature face revealed just the right amount of dependence and unease.
When he lived in the slum with Ah Weng, he once helped a prostitute who was seriously ill. He heard that the prostitute was once a famous courtesan, but he had fallen to this state because he offended someone.
The prostitute was grateful for his help. He coughed while covering his mouth and sighed repeatedly as he looked at the drafty thatched hut. He said he had nothing to repay him with, so he taught him some tricks to seduce people.
At first, Li Huai'an was dismissive and even looked down on her in his heart, but after meeting Yan Yize, his thoughts changed. He wanted to get her, so he secretly started to think of these tricks.
He practiced in front of the mirror countless times, and now this look not only brought out his good looks but also created a pitiful feeling, arousing women's protective instincts.
Li Huai'an had prepared everything and was just waiting for her to turn back. However, as the saying goes, life is unpredictable, and things would not develop as smoothly as he had imagined.
Yan Yize was still lost in the disappointment of Shang Xu's departure when a sudden voice behind her pulled her back to reality. But she didn't turn around; her gaze remained fixed on the corner where Shang Xu had left. She replied absentmindedly, "He is my husband. If there's nothing else, don't bother him."
Li Huai'an waited confidently for her to turn around, but not only did she not turn around, he also heard such shocking news. He was struck dumb, and he could no longer maintain his pitiful expression.
Only a formally married husband can be called a husband. He had thought that the man might be her concubine or a maid, but he never thought he would be her formally married husband.
Li Huai'an was extremely jealous, his facial expression twisted uncontrollably. He gritted his teeth in resentment, his eyes blazing with jealousy, which meant he was no longer destined for the position of the principal wife.
"You must be tired after your journey. I'll have someone take you to rest." Yan Yize said, calling over a servant and giving him a few casual instructions before heading in the direction Shang Xu had left.
From beginning to end, she had no intention of looking back even once. Her mind was focused on Shang Xu as he left, wondering why his attitude was so cold, even though they were getting along well when she left.
She thought about many things, but never considered that the problem lay with the person she brought back, or with her own vague explanations.
In Yan Yize's eyes, Li Huai'an was merely a condition for a deal with his grandfather, just a passerby. Once this matter was over, he would arrange a place for him to go, and then he would never see him again. Therefore, he was not worth mentioning and did not need to take him to heart.
But she never considered that while she didn't care, Shang Xu did.
