Chapter 5 (12)
The operation was a success, but unfortunately, Yu Qing didn't make it through the most critical 36 hours afterward. Yu Shuang will always remember that night. She lay by her brother's bed, holding his arm. In the second half of the night, Yu Qing's temperature kept rising, and Yu Shuang cried for a doctor. All the medicines she tried had no effect. She was afraid the fever was just a temporary blip. After peaking, the temperature began to drop, dropping even lower. Just when Yu Shuang was clinging to hope, Yu Qing stopped breathing. He never woke up. He went straight to heaven to find his mother.
Yu Shuang threw herself on her brother and burst into tears. The world was vast, the universe was boundless, and there was no one in this world who had a direct, undeniable connection with her. She felt like a transmitter with its signal cut off, trapped in darkness, unable to find a way out.
Despair, utter despair.
Yu Qing's wife fainted upon hearing the news of her husband's death. His mother-in-law had to take care of their daughter first, rushing her to the emergency room and feeding her soup and water. Having lost her son-in-law, she couldn't bear to be without a daughter. She was also pregnant, with another child approaching her due date. His mother-in-law, Da (the second tone of the da) was home caring for her grandchildren and couldn't spare any time. Kang Long handled almost all the aftermath.
Yu Shuang hated it! He hated his brother for being disobedient, and hated his sister-in-law for not being able to persuade him! Isn't this just being worked to death? He worked overtime to earn two more children! If the family is broke and the business is ruined, why not have so many children? Two isn't enough for three?! He's like Runtu?!
Yu Shuang sympathized with her brother and sister-in-law. Seeing Yu Qing's wife's belly, as big as a katydid's, she couldn't help but wonder what would become of her, their family, in the future. Three children, two elderly parents, and a woman with no job. Yu Qing didn't even have life insurance. She reminded him several times, and once, she even wanted to sign the bill for him. Yu Qing insisted, saying it wasn't necessary, and that his luck would improve and his wealth would roll in. But then, the heavens took a sudden turn for the better, and he was flung underground.
For Yu Shuang, everything was a tragedy, a nightmare. She had never believed in fate before, but now she wanted to ask the heavens what had happened. She had suffered so many setbacks in the past two years, leaving her completely destitute and helpless! How could she survive?!
The rest of the matter could only be put aside for now. Funerals are a way of gaining experience. After crying and cremation, Yu Shuang took his brother's ashes, accompanied by Kang Long, his eldest niece and second nephew, and went to his hometown to bury Xiao Qing. He was buried with his mother. The Yu Yingzi people, young and old, were all deeply moved, and there was an endless stream of mourners. When they saw Kang Long, the people in Yingzi didn't ask much, but privately they all recognized that he was Yu Shuang's other half, and they all sighed that they were born from the same mother, and that the brother's blessings had been taken away by his sister. It was also heard that Yu Qing had a posthumous child. Inevitably, there were rumors in Yingzi that the unborn child might have a strong destiny. Before he was born, he had already brought disaster to his father.
With a funeral in Yingzi, news naturally spread to the big cities. Jia had just returned from London when she heard the bad news. Meng had gone straight to Shuang's house after returning from Singapore, leaving Rui alone. They couldn't help but lament Shuang's fate, but the situation had already happened, and there were only two things they could do: pay a gift, a traditional Yu Yingzi tradition that required thorough etiquette; and two, wait for Shuang's return so they could gather together and comfort him.
When Yu Meng learned that Kang Long had been following her all the way, she immediately praised him, "That's rare. When you face such a difficult situation, it's not just about money; you need people by your side."
Yes, Yu Shuang understood this all too well. She took her niece and nephew back to the big city, and Kang Long took care of them all the way. From the trip back, Kang Long did everything without complaint. She owed him so much. He paid for the hospital bills, not to mention the tremendous effort he put into it. Yu Shuang realized the importance of having someone by her side. No matter how strong she was, there were times when she felt helpless and needed someone to lean on. Kang Long played that role perfectly. This wasn't something that could be summed up in just one word: love.
Yu Shuang understood that the feelings between people aren't easy to discern when things are calm. Only when things get tough, when the winds and waves are high, can one truly "test a horse's strength; time reveals a person's heart." A relationship between two people requires them to endure hardships together! Only when they don't run away when disaster strikes is it truly precious. But didn't her and Kang Long have a gentleman's agreement that neither owed the other anything? They wanted fairness, freedom, and a fulfilling life. After all this, she owed Kang Long a lot. How could she repay it? While debts can be repaid, debts of gratitude are particularly difficult to repay.
Sitting on the train, Yu Shuang sighed. She closed her eyes. Many things still unconsciously surfaced in her mind. What should she do? What will happen to these children in the future? All three children have the surname Yu. As an aunt, can she just ignore them? Her sister-in-law is so young, and she will be a widow for the rest of her life? Is it realistic? But how can she remarry with three children? No solution! A headache! When she opened her eyes, Kang Long was playing mobile games with her niece and nephew. She really wanted to say thank you to Kang Long. But she felt that two words of thanks were too weak and she couldn't say them.
As soon as they left the station, Jia Mengrui hugged Shuang and cried bitterly. These tears were for mourning Yu Qing. In the past, they never seemed to feel that this naughty boy was important, but now, it was he who brought the sisters together again. After all, we all have the surname Yu!
A short adjustment.
This was the second death in Yu Shuang's family. Shuang, a materialist by nature, had been devastated by the reality of life, and she began to question whether destiny truly existed. Kang Long explained, citing the ancient saying, "One is destiny, two is luck, three is feng shui, four is accumulating good karma, and five is reading." Shuang was impatient, "Speak in human terms." Rui, intrigued, begged Kang Long to explain. Kang Long held a child in each hand. Shuang's niece and nephew had been visiting him for the past few days, and Kang Long had been taking them on trips to museums and parks. The children were also very close to him. Kang Long then explained, "One is destiny, two is luck. It's a scientific concept. It essentially considers a person as a celestial body. From the moment you are born, the influence of the rest of the universe on you shapes who you are and your physical form. This is innate, it's destiny." He paused, then continued, "Luck is the influence of the rest of the universe on you throughout your life, both good and bad. Ten years of luck change, hence the saying, 'Every decade brings a new fortune,'"
Yu Shuang and Yu Rui were both listening intently. Yu Meng came in from outside, and Yu Jia came out from the kitchen and sat down nearby to listen.
Kang Long continued, "Three Feng Shui. It refers to the influence of geographical location on people."
Yu Meng illustrated: "Xiaokang, go back to my house and check the Feng Shui. I always feel that the house is gloomy."
Yu Jia muttered, "Look, you're in great luck."
Kang Long continued, "The fourth is to accumulate hidden virtues, and the fifth is to study. These two both deal with the concept of harmony among people. What does it mean to accumulate hidden virtues?"
"Do good deeds without leaving a name." Yu Shuang said.
"Right," Kang Long let go of the child's hand. "Accumulating hidden virtues is based on the theory of cause and effect. This world is driven by cause and effect. When you cultivate hidden virtues, it means you create some good causes. Doing good deeds, accumulating them, will increase the chances of receiving good results."
"What about studying?" Yu Jia asked. She was interested in this. Sisi was studying in London.
"Reading increases your wisdom and improves yourself. Reading is actually a form of spiritual practice. Cultivate your wisdom and cultivate your virtue. When your wisdom and virtue improve, you can also change your luck."
Yu Rui clapped softly. Yu Meng also laughed and said, "Xiao Kang is worthy of being on the Hundred Schools Forum." Yu Jia wanted to ask Kang Long for fortune-telling. Yu Shuang said his fortune-telling was ineffective, but then said, "So you're saying that I'm so unlucky because I have a bad fate, no wisdom, no virtue, and no good deeds?" Kang Long chuckled, "You still have to work on your relationships with others."
Yu Meng hugged Shuang and Rui, then reached out to grab Jia and asked, "Isn't this enough harmony among people?" Kang Long smiled and said it was a general statement.
Several people sat for a while and were almost done with each other. Yu Jia and Yu Meng still had things to do, so they told Shuang not to think too much and to come visit her another day. But before leaving, both of them added Kang Long's WeChat. After staying for a while, it was dark, and the children were ready to take a shower and rest. Yu Shuang was also tired and fell on the sofa with her eyes half closed. Since Rui was there, it would be inconvenient for Kang Long to stay overnight. Yu Rui sent Kang downstairs. She took the opportunity to say, "Brother Kang, you will have to take care of Sister Shuang in the future." Kang Long said he knew. Yu Rui said, "I may have to move to another group and cannot live here permanently. When I move out, you can move in if it is convenient for you."
"Yu Shuang said that?"
Yu Rui smiled bitterly, "She's in no mood to make plans right now. My suggestion."
Kang Long said "oh".
Yu Rui added fuel to the fire, "You're a man, and you're such a refined gentleman. You won't suffer any loss if you take the initiative." Kang Long felt embarrassed and touched the back of his head. Yu Rui asked again, "You're so good at calculating, why don't you calculate the difference between you and Sister Shuang?"
"Me and her?" Kang Long stopped. "Yigeng alloy."
"What's the meaning?"
"She's attractive to me, but she might lose herself in me."
"How did you lose it?"
"Can't be the boss? Don't want to be a strong woman? That may be the case." Kang Long said with a smile.
Yu Rui jokingly said that was fine, "What about me? Help me calculate it."
"Now?" Kang Long was surprised.
Yu Rui had already typed the eight characters on the memo of her mobile phone.
Kang Long looked at it, then used the chart software to check the four pillars. After reading it, he was silent and pondered.
"Why? Short life?" Yu Rui was nervous, but she couldn't show it on her face. They walked to the door of the convenience store, where the lights were shining.
"No. Yuqing's is the short-lived one."
"You are talking after the fact."
"He is three Hai and one Si."
"Why didn't you say so earlier?"
"No one would believe me even if I told them."
"How about mine?" Yu Rui turned around.
"Very good. Same horoscope as Michelle Reis, Xin day master."
"What's the meaning?"
"Xin metal, symbolized by jewels, means you'll marry a rich man in the future," Kang Long said seriously. Yu Rui chuckled, thinking that according to this statement, she got what she wanted.
The car arrived, and Kang Long said goodbye to Yu Rui. Just a dozen meters out, his phone started to buzz with messages. Kang Long clicked on them. Yu Jia and Yu Meng had both shared their horoscopes. They asked him to calculate them. The journey was uneventful. Kang Long looked at each one.
Yu Jia is born under the Earth element, and is very tolerant, but she has a friend in her fate, so her relationship with her husband is not good and may not last long.
Yu Meng's birth chart was Ding Fire, a sign of conflict between heaven and earth. However, Kang Long had learned his lesson and responded gently, saying that Yu Jia had a kind and tolerant destinies, capable of accommodating her husband and leading a happy life. He also said that Yu Meng was naturally attractive to men and had a particularly strong advantage: longevity.
These are all the ones you two like to listen to.
