Chapter 7 (3)
Noble person.
Yu Meng racked his brains but couldn't figure out where the benefactor was. Southeast. Wengyang? How could he be a benefactor? Ridiculous.
Honestly, Luan Chengyun had performed well during this "incident," but it wasn't clear how much help he had provided. Yu Meng believed she had done nothing wrong, and the supposed investigation wouldn't reveal anything, so she didn't acknowledge Old Luan's kindness. However, she was grateful that Luan Chengyun hadn't taken advantage of her.
When Haoyu and Zhengyu returned, Lao Luan only said that Yu Meng missed a step when she was going down the stairs and was slightly injured. Haoyu muttered, "Minor injury or emotional injury." Lao Luan didn't hear clearly and corrected, "Minor injury."
With the help of his son, Luan Chengyun came to see Yu Meng again and expressed his attitude again, agreeing to remarry.
Yu Meng felt uncomfortable. What was this? She was going back to him just because she was in trouble? Was he her savior? Or did he feel like he was giving her a handout? It was just the end of a relationship, what was the big deal? She, Yu Meng, could afford to lose! She didn't need his pity! Remarriage was out of the question. And she really didn't like the words he used. What did he mean by "agree to remarry"? It should be that you propose, and whether I agree or not depends on my mood.
baffling!
Yu Jia, upon hearing this, offered some advice, saying that old age is the best and warmest. Yu Meng blurted out, "If he had the ambition to establish himself as a leader and serve the people, I would wear mourning for him!" Only then did she realize she had slipped her words.
Yu Jia hadn't gotten over Li Ren's death, but as time went by, her hatred for him solidified. He denied her hope during his lifetime, engaging in a cold war and divorce, and then, after his death, revealed the truth, leaving her forever tormented. Even more painful was the title of martyr's widow.
When Li Ren was still around, she would never divorce him, but now that he was gone, she wanted to break away from his influence more than ever. If possible, she even wanted to lose her memory, forget the past, forget all the pain, and start over.
The Di family's occupiers arrived, and Yu Jia didn't want to live there anymore. After some negotiation, the apartment left by Li Ren could be rented out with the company's approval. The rent was split in half, with Yu Jia using half to rent a house and the other half to the Di family. Interestingly, the Di family didn't even mention moving in after receiving the other half.
Money is real only when you get it.
Yu Meng reminded Yu Jia that they could compromise on this matter, but Liren's provident fund and private money must be returned. Yu Jia smiled bitterly. The private money was fine, but the Di family went to the company to ask for the provident fund, but the boss withheld it. They believed that Yu Jia should handle it. Finally, Yu Jia, accompanied by Yu Rui, went to collect the money. Not long after, the Di family learned of the situation and immediately denounced Yu Jia as a vicious woman. Yu Jia couldn't tell the difference. She wasn't thinking about herself, but about Sisi. Her daughter still needed money for school.
Yu Jia considered a way out. If she truly ran out of money, she and Li Ren each had a house in the provincial capital and back home. Selling them would provide emergency funds. She had no plans to return. In a big city, she could still enjoy some freedom. Returning would only expose her to the gossip of others.
Yu Meng appeared at the women's business meeting. She pushed open the door and stood still, her flat shoes still imposing. Weng Yue was stunned. She had expected her to appear, but not so soon. Yu Meng walked in steadily, sat down, and poured herself a cup of tea.
They all stared at her.
The secret battle between Yu Meng and Weng Yue is so gossipy that these old ladies can recite it by heart. Let’s wait and see, maybe there will be a next episode.
Weng Yue led the applause, "Let's welcome Teacher Yu back to the team."
Pretentious! Artificial! Pretending!
The war reignited. However, Yu Meng had no intention of taking action rashly. She had a plan: she would combine revenge and love. She believed her natural beauty could conquer any mountain. For example, on this day, the association was holding a meeting. Weng Yue sat on the podium, with Yu Meng in front of her. Han Guang, a sponsor, also attended the meeting. Yu Meng deliberately walked over to Han Guang's side and sat down leisurely and solemnly.
Han Guang turned to look at her. She smiled.
"Yu Meng."
The tug-of-war lasted for so long that Yu Meng's name became a household name.
"What? Are you afraid that I will throw sulfuric acid at you?" Yu Meng spoke boldly.
Han Guang smiled. He rarely smiled like that.
"Victory and defeat are common in war," she added.
"My fortress is not easy to conquer."
"I'm here to be friends."
"oh?"
"I know you have no choice."
Han Guang said coldly, "No one can coerce me yet."
Yu Meng smiled. "At this age, everyone has a past. Old relationships, old ways, I can't bear to let go. It's nothing. If you are unwilling to help the old man, I might look down on you. You are too heartless and ungrateful."
"You're an interesting person."
"I admire you." Yu Meng pressed on.
"Thank you for your appreciation."
"Don't be so aloof."
"It seems you know me well."
"A little bit."
Han Guang chuckled and said nothing.
"You're a talent," Yu Meng boasted, her voice precarious. The entire conversation felt like walking a tightrope; one misstep would mean total failure. But she was taking a gamble, betting on not being annoying, betting on being pleasing to the eye, bold and attentive. Men don't like pretty girls; they pursue those with brains, interest, determination, and courage. Of course, being pretty was best, but not so pretty as to be offensive, so pretty as to make him feel insecure—that was a very difficult balance to strike, and Yu Meng believed she had nailed it. It was also a clever counterattack to Weng Yue.
Weng Yue witnessed the entire drama that day, though she could see but not hear. She immediately called Han Guang and softly protested. Han Guang replied, "Is everything okay now?" Weng Yue knew better than to pursue the matter, so she gave up. Sitting alone in her car, her thoughts raced. Her sister, Weng Qin, had been gone for so many years, and her feelings for her remained complex. She was grateful to her sister. Without her, she wouldn't have crossed paths with a man like Han Guang—even though he had also built his fortune from scratch—but if Weng Qin hadn't gone to such extremes, her relationship with Han Guang wouldn't have been so awkward.
Xi Qian hated her. She hated her for stealing her father and killing her mother, but the blame was so unfair. She and Han Guang had been in a state of insignificance ever since her sister left. He always kept his distance from her. She had previously argued with Han Guang about the company split, and bored, she rekindled her friendship with Yu Meng (letting a wolf into the house). This time, during the committee election, Weng Yue thanked Han Guang for his unwavering support. After all, they were family; she was Xi Qian's aunt! But Weng Yue also understood that Han Guang's move was partly to demonstrate his own strength. Men are competitive, and Han Guang was not afraid of competition; he loved it.
The car door opened, and Yu Rui handed over a cup of coffee. She asked Weng Yue if she was still going to get her hair done. Weng Yue stared at Yu Rui, waved her hand, and said, "Let's go back first."
Chairman Kang didn't go to the nursing home and is still living with Yu Shuang for the time being. The son can't beat his father. Kang Long can't do anything about him. He just feels a little sorry for Yu Shuang and causes her too much trouble. But Yu Shuang said, "We are all helping each other. You helped my brother so much when he was young, so it's only right that I take care of him more now. Besides, Chairman Kang is very useful. He even teaches Chun'er history."
Kang Long knew that his father's history classes basically taught the history of the Chinese revolution, and the lesson of the capture of Luding Bridge was always preserved in his childhood memories.
By summer, the Yu Shuang household had undergone a transformation. Yu Qing's wife had brought her two children to visit, firstly to broaden their horizons, secondly to see their daughter Chun'er, and thirdly to curry favor with her sister-in-law. She had recently resigned and was in between jobs—she hadn't yet secured her next one.
The arrival of Yu Qing's wife and children brought a lively atmosphere to the house. Seeing Chun'er living like a little princess at Yu Shuang's, she felt a little unhappy and urged Yu Shuang to save as much as possible. She always emphasized that the two children lived a simple and frugal life. She hoped Yu Shuang would treat them equally and give them more money.
Yu Qing's wife, of course, still questioned Chairman Kang's presence, secretly asking Chun'er, "Is this old man safe? He smells." Chairman Kang, squatting in the bathroom, overheard, his pride bruised. In fact, ever since Kang Long objected to his living here, Chairman Kang had been thinking about a way out. He couldn't live with his son, and he couldn't go to a nursing home. His only option, temporarily, was to return to the old house and slowly find a nanny. Having made up his mind, Chairman Kang went to talk to Yu Shuang.
