Chapter 112: The Smell of Death

Baba paced inside the room.

Her brows were furrowed, her lips pursed into a thin straight line. She looked at the Shaman who had been calm ever since they heard the news.

"I can’t take it," Baba said. "We can’t let them go there."

"Why not?" Shaman Gaas snorted without looking at her. "What are you talking about, Babaylan? Isn’t this a great chance to observe her?"

"What if... what if something happens instead?" she asked. "She is Matthew’s mate. We are not sure what would happen to Matthew if she does something unimaginable."

"Ah... so you are worried about the pup."

"Matthew is no pup. He is the future King..."

"Does he want to be King?"

"No."

"There you go. You got your answer."

"What?"

"Matthew does not care about his father or other Lycans. He is going to fight with her and fight for her. What’s wrong about that?"

"You don’t understand my point. If Matthew loses— "

"I do..." Shaman Gaas finally looked at her. "I understood Baba. Matthew might lose himself if something happens to Ava."

"Then? Shouldn’t we stop them?"

"Matthew is no longer a child, Baba. And so is Ava. They can do whatever they want and they would suffer its consequence."

"Ava is going to be your only student, your prodigy. Are you really willing to see her hurt?"

"My student is strong." Shaman Gaas shrugged. "Nothing can happen to her."

"But what if— "

"Women and their overthinking capabilities." Shaman Gaas said.

"Men and their nonchalant personalities."

"Hey! I am not nonchalant about this situation."

"Then what are you doing old man?"

"All I’m saying is... you let them do whatever they want. They are adults. You cannot protect them forever. Ava needs to control her magick and the best way to do that is through combat."

"You mean she’s going to learn to control her magick by killing people."

Shaman Gaas stared at her, "Since when have you cared about events like this, Baba?"

"What?"

"You never cared about witches or Lycans. You just cared about that— adopted daughter of yours. Was it Matthew’s mother?"

"You— "

"Right. That woman should be Matthew’s mother."

Baba’s gaze darkened. "Let’s stop talking about the past."

"Of course," Shaman Gaas smiled. "But again, the reason why that woman was weak is that... you nestled her in your arms. You protected her. You made her weak." ƒгeewebnovёl_com

"I— "

"And so she fell in love with the Lycan King."

"Stop it."

"Alright. I will stop." Shaman Gaas nodded and looked away.

"You are surprisingly aware of the events in the Lycan’s world," Baba said.

In response, Shaman Gaas just smirked. He said nothing and continued staring outside.

"But this isn’t my only concern." Baba continued. "I have a bad feeling about this."

"A bad feeling?"

"Yes. I tried to see what was going to happen but I couldn’t..."

Shaman Gaas squinted. "Then there can only be two things. First, they are trying to interfere. Perhaps they are using iron around the building? Second, it was a trap and they...they are aiming for Ava."

Of course, it can only be Ava. Those people would never dare to hurt Matthew and risk causing a civil war inside the Lycan Kingdom. However, Ava was different. She was just a witch.

To the outside world, she was just someone that Matthew found and seduced to become one of his witches. She’s replaceable.

Shaman Gaas sighed. "Alright... let’s go and watch."

Hearing this, Baba smiled.

"But— " Shaman Gaas said. "You are not allowed to intervene Babaylan. I am serious. Ava and Matthew would eventually fight this world together. They need to learn how to protect themselves. Do you understand?"

Baba nodded reluctantly.

After all, Shaman Gaas had a point.

Protecting them wouldn’t do them any good.

Baba stood in front of him and the two of them soon vanished from inside the room.

.....

The air reeked of blood and flesh. Bodies— broken and torn— were strewn all over the ground.

The silence that surrounded the compound was intimidating. Horrifying even.

If an innocent person would see it, they would think that they were transported inside a war zone.

But this silence was soon shattered by a loud scream for help. Then the sound of flesh being torn apart by some monster followed.

Soon, a footstep echoed.

Then Ava slowly walked inside the building.

A calm smile was written all over her face. She walked lazily while staring at the unrecognizable bodies on the ground. Then she lifted her head and stared at the two cameras pointed her way.

Right now, the other side of the camera couldn’t see anything. At least they didn’t see anything wrong. It was because of a blinding spell that Ava did before Matthew started turning the place apart.

Ava roamed her eyes around. The smell of iron and the sight of blood should have made her guts churn. But it didn’t.

For some reason, the smell of death around her made her feel free. It made her feel powerful and alive. She stepped towards a puddle of blood then she closed her eyes.

The place was filled with something dark and evil.

It would be enough to frighten anyone.

But not Ava.

The darkness seemed to fill something inside her. It seemed to fill a gap inside her soul that she didn’t even know existed.

She continued walking and soon, she reached the large stairs that led her to the second floor of the building. After a few minutes of walking, she reached another stair and then the final stair that would lead her to the fourth floor.

As usual, the aisle was still filled with humans.

No.

These people aren’t humans.

They were hybrids.

Matthew warned her ahead of time that he would kill every hybrid that would block his way. Of course, the fact that Ava used illusion on them made it easier for Matthew to tear apart their bodies.

"Hmmm?"

Ava walked inside one of the rooms. She had sensed Matthew there.

"Don’t come any closer..." Matthew said. Of course, Ava did anyway.

Then she saw the baby...

She saw Gabi.

.....
