Chapter 113: The Blank Space- End of Vol. 2

A bomb was wrapped around Gabi’s small frame.

For a few seconds, Ava’s eyes widened. Then she looked at the bloody Matthew.

"What— "

"If we touch it... the baby will die."

Ava’s calm heart started pounding. She looked at the sleeping baby and the timer.

Three minutes.

They only have

Three fucking minutes!

"Who would— "

"I don’t know," Matthew said.

Now that Ava was closer, she immediately noticed that he was completely in his human form. Earlier, he transformed a few parts of his body like his nail and arm into that of a Lycans. For some reason, Matthew didn’t want to fully transform.

Ava guessed that Matthew couldn’t control his wolf.

She shook the thoughts out of her head.

"How are we going to— " she gulped when she saw the iron that surrounded the bluish liquid that wrapped around Gabi’s body. She clenched her fist.

She knew this was a trap.

But she didn’t know that someone would be sinister enough to do this a fucking baby!

"The de Cene Family..." Ava gritted her teeth. "I will kill them."

Matthew looked at her. This time, he said nothing.

"They used the hybrids as a diversion. The moment they smelled trouble, they evacuated Almeru and Aira."

Ava snorted at that. Funny how they thought Ava couldn’t harm those two even if they were far away. But again, she decided to stop thinking about them for now.

She needed to solve this issue.

"Marko is already on his way with someone that could defuse a bomb," Matthew said.

"How long..."

"He said he will reach here in a few minutes. At least two."

"We don’t have the luxury of time," Ava gritted her teeth. "What are these?" she pointed at the blue liquid form that was attached to the timer."

"I am not sure."

"No. This bomb... this bomb is not for you. It is for me. My guess is it’s something that could hurt witches even if we use a shield." Ava looked around. This room actually looked like a small nursery. The baby was in a crib and around the crib were some things that a baby would need. Even diapers.

"If they wanted to kill Gabi... they wouldn’t have treated him like this," Ava added. This only means one thing. The target was just her.

"It should be gas," Matthew said.

"The probability is high that this is gas that could kill a witch."

Matthew nodded.

Ava narrowed her eyes at the timer. There should be a way. But a part of her was already sure that everything about this bomb was made of iron.

Magick doesn’t work on iron!

Damnit!

She slowly reached out and touched the bomb. They now have less than two minutes to diffuse the bomb.

"I am taking it with me," Matthew said.

"No. What if we were wrong? What if it’s going to blow? What if it’s going to hurt you?" Ava shook her head. She touched Baby Gabi. "I am going to try."

"That’s iron."

"Nothing in this world is... impossible."

Ava thought of moving Gabi out of the bomb. She closed her eyes and concentrated her magick on teleporting Gabi.

But the iron easily blocked her magick.

Ava let out a curse.

"No. This cannot be. That’s just..." Ava’s palms started sweating. She let out a few curses before trying again. "No."

"We have to leave."

"I can’t leave him, Matthew."

"And I won’t let you die, Ava," Matthew said. "You are their target."

"We don’t know that," Ava met his eyes. "We are not sure."

"No that— "

"Look, Matthew... if something happens to you someone else would become the King. The world will continue turning and they will just move on." Ava said. She tried to concentrate again. "Give me time... I will get him out of it."

She could feel Matthew’s anxiety next to her. But she chose to ignore it and tried to use her magick on Gabi again.

She stared at the time.

One minute.

One fucking minute.

That’s sixty seconds!

The pounding in her heart grew louder and louder until it was the only thing that she could hear. It felt like everything about her had been muted.

’Ava?’

She thought she heard Matthew’s voice but for some reason, it felt really really slow and weirdly far away.

’Ava? We should leave!’

This time, Matthew’s voice sounded like it was underwater, muffled by the water.

’Ava!’

She turned towards him. His golden eyes shone in the dark. It looked beautiful. He was holding her as he opened his mouth.

He was saying something but for some reason, she couldn’t hear it. What was he trying to say?

She frowned.

Then she looked at Gabi again.

Ten seconds.

And everything about her is still muffled.

The only thing that she could hear was her heart.

Lub-dub.

Nine.

Lub-dub.

Eight.

Lub-dub.

Seven.

Lub-dub.

Six.

Lub-dub.

Five.

Lub-dub.

Four.

Lub-dub.

’Ava?’

’Ava?’

’Ava?’

Lub-dub.

Three.

Lub-dub.

Two.

Lub-dub.

One.

Lub-dub.

And then there was nothing.

Ava felt her body fly away. It was as if something— an invisible pressure— was sucking her towards a deep abyss.

She could hear a loud boom from far away.

Yet she couldn’t move.

She tried her best to move her head. To look back from where the sound came from. But she couldn’t.

Her body felt frozen yet strangely warm.

Her mind was blank but her heart stopped racing.

She opened her eyes to a white space that was almost blinding. It was too bright and quiet and... peaceful?

How come it was peaceful?

Right.

How could it be peaceful when someone wanted to hurt Gabi? Her nephew?

Right.

The bomb.

It was attached to the poor baby’s body.

And there was no time left.

She gulped.

Then there was Matthew.

He was standing near her. Did he hug her before the time became zero?

He probably did.

But what happened next?

The question suddenly caused chaos inside the white space. She blinked and almost immediately, the sound of strong winds that threatened to tear her body apart reached her ears.

Then...

BAM!

She felt her body hit a solid object.
