Chapter 114: Problems

Contrary to what she saw before she lost her consciousness, Ava woke up inside a dark space. The sound of what seemed like a stream was the only thing that she could hear.

She tried to adjust to the darkness, to examine the place where she was at. But it was useless.

The darkness seemed to swallow everything around her.

The creases in between Ava’s brows deepened.

She should have been scared but for some reason, the darkness seemed to calm her down. She felt at ease.

She bit her lower lip then she closed her eyes. This time, she used Magick to try and sense her location. Again, it was futile.

She couldn’t feel anything.

It was as if she was in a separate space.

How strange.

After a few seconds of deliberation, Ava started walking.

....

"She’s not awake yet," Matthew was pacing next to Ava’s bed. "How is this possible? You said, she’s fine!" He looked at Baba, his eyes blood red.

"Matthew, I suggest you calm down. We are doing our best to help." It was Shaman Gaas who spoke. He was standing next to Ava’s bed. "You should talk to Ava’s brother and assure him that everything is fine. That man... isn’t calming down either."

Matthew said nothing. He just grunted but didn’t stop pacing. "What happened. You said Iron... is every magick’s weakness. Then how was she able to teleport the three of us away from the explosion?" he had been asking the same question over and over again.

And the two powerful witches couldn’t give him any concrete answer.

Shaman Gaas said Ava might have managed to pull them into another dimension before pulling them back out. But Matthew didn’t feel anything like that.

When it happened, Matthew’s senses were heightened. Everything was too fast, too quick. He just saw darkness swallow them. Then the next thing he knew, the three of them were already back at the mansion. Gabi was in Ava’s arms.

However, Ava was already unconscious.

"It shouldn’t work," Baba said. "Magick doesn’t work on Iron. It’s impossible."

"Then what happened?" Matthew asked. "How could you tell me that it’s impossible? It happened! I told you... we teleported out of that building!" Baba and Shaman Gaas actually went there. However, they thought that Matthew and Ava were hurt by the explosion.

They didn’t sense anything wrong when Ava teleported. They only said that they sensed them... vanish. It was as if they were swallowed by something and they assumed it was the bomb.

"I believe we should focus on the things that we could control," Shaman Gaas suggested. "For instance... that bomb."

"The bomb..." Baba uttered in a low dangerous voice. "Was aimed at witches. I didn’t know that the Lycans... " she cleared her throat. "To be honest, this does not surprise me anymore. Lycans wanted to rule the supernatural world. They wanted to enslave witches. So... creating a weapon that would only harm witches is something that they would do."

"I don’t know anything about weapons..."

"I know Matthew. This isn’t something that you would do." Baba said. "Those de Cene family... they must be one of the families who invested millions just to create weapons like that."

"The Lycans just created something like that." Shaman Gaas sighed. "This has become more troublesome."

"What do you mean?" Matthew asked.

"Well, that bomb could have killed me if I was standing next to it."

Matthew stopped walking and stared at the Shaman. "It could... kill you?" His eyes turned golden, and veins could be seen on his temple.

"Matthew... calm down and think about it rationally," Baba said. "They wanted to get rid of Ava. And using that bomb was a sure way to kill her."

"And they almost succeeded!"

"No they didn’t, your mate is a powerful one. She might become more powerful than Babaylan and I in no time."

"But she cannot control that power," Baba added.

"Ava is smart. She will figure it out." Matthew and his wolf were confident that Ava could achieve everything as long as she wanted it. Even if she couldn’t achieve it... he would do everything to give it to her. It was that simple.

His eyes landed on her pale face. She looked so fragile, so weak. It pained him to see her like this.

"Shouldn’t we do something?" he asked. The doctors— his doctors who specialize in working with supernaturals— told him that nothing is wrong. Ava is healthy. In fact, she’s healthier than most humans. Even Baba and the Shaman told him that Ava is simply sleeping.

But... who sleeps for almost twenty-four hours straight?

The two assured him that Ava was simply exhausted. That... she just used too much magick.

But Matthew could feel that something was wrong with all this.

He couldn’t point it out.

But he knew.

Something was wrong with her.

His wolf howled.

He, too, had felt it.

"No. We just need to wait. The Shaman and I are going to talk to her brother. It seems that he is getting impatient downstairs. He wants to see his sister," Baba said.

Hearing this, Matthew nodded. After what happened, he asked Marko to bring Gabi back to his father. However, Phil insisted on seeing Ava and followed them here.

Of course, they can’t really let him see Ava as she’s unconscious.

This only prompted Phil to think that something happened to Ava and that’s why they refused to let him see her. The man was as stubborn as his sister!

.....

The moment the Shaman and Baba got out. Baba’s expression immediately changed. From calm to anger to being horrified.

"Are you sure her soul is not in that body?" she asked.

And Shaman Gaas nodded his head without saying anything.

"Then... where is she?"

"I cannot be sure. She’s trapped... somewhere."

"You cannot tell him about this!"

"Of course, Baba. I am not a fool. That man might kill everyone if he comes to know that..." Shaman Gaas let out a sigh. "Ah... I am already so old. Why am I facing these problems now?"
