"Now... are you going to answer my question as to why the Lycans are doing this to you?" Jude asked.
"How should I know? Those people are crazy."
"Come on... V. I know you. If they are considered crazy then... what about you?"
She snickered. "Are you insulting me?"
"I am merely stating the truth. The Lycans are trying to— I don’t know. Pressure you? I honestly don’t understand why they are trying to do this. Tsk... those damn Lycans are trying to make their own rules. They think that just because they are powerful they can do whatever they want."
"You hate Lycans."
"Most of the shifters do."
"Why?"
"They look down on us. On everyone else. Witches, shifters, and humans. I mean... you have been with that prince. What do you think?"
Ava snorted. Did her thoughts matter? In the first place, he was her mate.
"Give me the names of the other covens working for Trillium."
"I can’t do that."
"Come on... Jude. You told me a lot of things already. Why not just give me the names. I can investigate on my own."
"V, I know you are going after them. I can’t let you do that. They will easily trace it back to me."
"It seems that they don’t trust you at all."
"You know how I got here. A lot of people raised questions. My father... had to silence them."
"Not permanently, I supposed?" ƒгeewebnovёl_com
"By doing favors. He works for the deputy, he could do a lot of things."
Ava smiled.
"The list... or I am not going anywhere."
"V...You can’t..."
"If those people are experimenting with humans, don’t you think it is time for the world to know about this?"
"You plan to expose them?"
"Why not?"
"You are going to use humans against... us?"
Ava smirked. "Who knows?"
"Ava..."
"Give me the list, Jude. Or I will force it out on you."
"You can’t expose us. You worked for Trillium. You know what’s going to happen if— "
"Calm down... Just let me handle it, alright?"
"Can I trust your words?"
"You can’t." Ava shook her head.
"Then..."
"Don’t trust my words, Jude. But you should trust my track record. I always get things done."
Jude stared at her for a long time before he sighed. He then walked toward one of the paintings that lined his wall and opened it. Behind the painting was a vault. After entering the password, he opened the vault and took out a flash drive. He handed it to Ava without saying anything.
"I really hope I can trust you on this, V."
"You don’t have a choice, Jude," Ava answered almost immediately. "Give me a laptop."
"You— "
"Oh please... did you think I am leaving here without any verification that this is the right list?"
"Can’t you just trust me?"
"Funny how the people that fool you once always ask you to trust them again."
Jude sighed. "It’s not like I have a choice. You know?" Then he opened the drawer on his bedside table and give her a laptop. "Password’s my birthday and initials."
Ava nodded. Then she opened the files and just as Jude said, it contained a detailed list of the experiments and some other evidence including the names of the coven that participated.
"You think the CIA is involved?"
"Of course. Most of the Keepers are a part of the CIA."
"Got it." Ava smiled. "So you have suspicions that Samuel might be involved?"
"I just want to cover my bases. I am not sure who to trust inside an organization like Trillium."
"Right..." Again, Ava nodded. "You even found out about their money laundering business and corruption inside the organization."
"I just wanted to be thorough."
"I wouldn’t be surprised if you end up dead one of these days," Ava smirked. Then she removed the flash drive and gave him back his laptop.
"I’m leaving..."
"How?"
"Excuse me?"
"You never answered my question. How did you get in?"
"That is none of your concern, Jude."
"You aren’t supposed to— I mean this place was surrounded by Iron. You aren’t supposed to teleport inside my room."
Ava shook her head. The iron stopped her before. But not anymore. It felt like a shackle had been removed inside her. And she quite liked it.
"Watch me," she uttered before she cast a spell. Slowly, her body... vanished.
...
Matthew Graydon
"Good, I am on my way. Yes. I will see you at home." Matthew ended the call from Ava. He looked at the flowers next to him and hoped that Ava would like them.
He missed her.
He had been so busy trying to clean up some mess that he felt like he had ignored her needs. If only he had a choice.
But with the conditions being as they were right now, Matthew couldn’t trust anyone else to do this other than himself. Rather, he wouldn’t trust anyone else to deal with those matters.
His father had been very proactive in sending his people to ’Assist’ Matthew lately. And while Matthew didn’t like it, he didn’t want to cause more trouble right now.
At least not yet.
As much as possible, he wanted to keep her a secret for as long as he could.
The time will come when he would announce Ava to the world, to his world. But not now.
"Marko... do you think we can drop by and buy some... chocolates?"
"Chocolates?"
"Girls like chocolates."
"With all due respect Mr. Graydon...Miss Woods is not a girl."
"Then what do you — You know what? Never mind. Let’s go home." Suddenly Matthew sensed something. "What is it?"
"Sir, a woman is trying to climb to the bridge just ahead of us," Marko said.
Matthew lifted an eyebrow. It was already close to twelve at midnight and the road had fewer people and cars.
This time, there were no cars at all.
"Do what you want," Matthew said.
Almost immediately, the car halted. Matthew immediately used this time to call 911 while Marko helped the woman down. It didn’t take too long for the man to convince the woman to go down.
"Those fools," Matthew uttered when he ended the call. "Did they really think this could fool me?"
It seems that the nobles were getting more and more desperate to get him back to Scotland.
He couldn’t help but wonder why that was...
He watched as Marko gave the woman his own coat. The woman looked in a daze. She was just standing there, a few inches away from Marko.
Meanwhile, Marko had a placid look on his face as he tried to talk to the woman.
The two of them stood not far away from the car where Matthew was so it wasn’t too hard for Matthew to hear the woman’s sobs.
"How noisy," Matthew said. Then he got out of the car. His presence immediately caught the woman’s attention. The woman glanced at Matthew and then towards the car. It was as if she wanted him to ask her inside.
However, Matthew was having none of it.
"Stay with her until the cops show up. I am in a hurry." Matthew said as he slid inside the driver’s seat. Although the last time he saw her was just this morning, Matthew was already excited to see Ava again.
