The next thing that Kenji knew, his body was already floating.
Wait... he wasn’t floating. He was flying.
Then...
BAM!
His back hit something hard. A tree?
He shook his head and felt something liquid trickling down his mouth. The pain from his back was sudden, too sudden!
He let out a curse.
"You— "
Before he could finish his sentence, Matthew appeared in front of him. He hadn’t even seen the man move!
"How can— " How could a Lycan be this fast? What is this speed?
BAM!
His wrist hit something hard. He thought he heard a crack. Something inside him was broken.
"What the — " He wanted to stand but felt his feet dangled. The next thing he knew, he was already struggling to breathe.
"Look at you..." Matthew sounded amused. "After all that talk... It looked like you are still weak?"
"You— "
"I was expecting something stronger," Matthew was looking at him as if... as if he was nothing? The thought made Kenji more furious. Sadly, he was too weak to move! "But this is the reason you created those hybrids, right? To defeat us?"
"How— Ugh— " Kenji’s mind felt like it was about to explode soon. His gaze had turned hazy. But just as he felt he was about to lose his consciousness, Matthew loosen his hand around his neck.
How could a Lycan be so... strong?
Kenji had met other Lycans in the past. All of them have this invisible pressure that could scare any shifters. It was easy for them to overpower any shifters just from their physical strength. In fact, Kenji had fought with one before.
At that time, Kenji was able to fight back. Though in the end, the Lycan still defeated him.
But this?
This was just different.
He opened his eyes and stared at Matthew’s golden irises. The invisible pressure around him increased. It felt like a large object was trying to crush his heart.
"S— Stop!" Kenji uttered. "Wolf... stop!" He struggled to speak.
"We wanted to spare you," Matthew said. "For information."
"Ugh!"
"But you are too irritating... should we just kill you?"
"Are you going to— " Kenji calmed himself. He couldn’t panic in front of absolute power. No.
He was the Deputy of the Operations Department! He was well respected! Many shifters are scared of him! How could he act like this in front of a damn Lycan?
"Are you going to kill me just for a mere witch?"
"A MERE witch?" Matthew spoke in a deadly voice. It was as if mentioning the word MERE somehow triggered him. But Kenji wasn’t done yet.
"Was it because she was pretending to be weak?" Kenji asked. Why would a powerful Lycan like Matthew protect an orphan witch who was unbaptized and never learned proper magick? It was the Alpha in him.
It was the instinct of an animal to protect the weak.
"Think about it, Prince. Do you really think that Ava Woods just approached you because you are good-looking? You are so naive to think that a witch would fall for a Lycan!"
"Shut up."
"The witch was using you! Are you really going to declare war against Trillium because of a damn witch?" On the outside, Kenji was bleeding. He looked like he was doing his best to survive.
But on the inside, Kenji was laughing.
Everything was just according to his plan.
All he needed to do now was show that he tried to convince Matthew not to do it. To act like a proper deputy in front of the camera— the camera that was recording everything.
He looked at the prince, who looked like he was about to lose his mind.
Just a little more, Kenji thought inwardly.
A loud howl echoed. Then someone screamed.
"You know..." Kenji tilted his head so the camera won’t capture his smiling expression. "You should have just let us kill her. She’s just another pxssy. I could give you ten of women like her."
Matthew’s eyes glinted.
But his attention was already elsewhere.
Kenji smiled. Victory, he thought.
BAM!
"Ugh!"
Kenji struggled to stand up when Matthew threw him towards another tree. Matthew was no longer on the spot where he was earlier. The surrounding fog was making it harder to see, but he knew. He could hear the howling. He could feel the ground shake from their footsteps.
Glee reverberated inside him. Finally!
The Hybrids are here.
"H — Hybrids!" Kenji shouted when he saw the silhouette of an eight-footer hybrid. The silhouette looked like a bear or a large dog. And it was running towards him. "They are working with the Hybrids!"
"Mr. Moore... what is happening!?" Mr. Miles helped Kenji up. Mr. Miles is the head of this facility, but he knows nothing about the Hybrids. Seeing that he was injured, the man stood in front of Kenji. His eyes widened at the large animal running its way. "What— what is that?"
"Leave.... Those are hybrids!"
"What about the others?" Mr. Miles said in a panicky voice. He was holding a gun. "Don’t worry sir... I will protect you!" Mr. Miles’s voice wasn’t the only thing shaking. The funny thing was, Mr. Miles is actually bigger than Kenji yet. The man was shaking from his head to his toe!
Coward, Kenji thought inwardly, as he fought the urge to roll his eyes. How could a shifter act so cowardly? The answer was simple. The man got here because of connections!
"R— Run!" Kenji said. "There are a lot of them!! You can leave me... leave me alone!"
"Mr. Moore..."
"Everyone! Get back to o the facility?"
"Eh?" Mr. Miles stopped moving when they noticed the monstrous creature stopped running. Seeing this, Kenji frowned as well.
"What— " Confused, Kenji looked at the Hybrid that looked like it had been frozen. Then, slowly, the creature’s paws floated a few inches from the ground.
"They— they have magick?" Mr. Miles’s words only infuriated Kenji. How could someone be so stupid?
Sadly, he had no time to slap the back of the man’s head. He too, was confused.
This— This wasn’t a part of the plan!
"What is going on?" Kenji uttered. The creature didn’t look dead. But it just stopped moving.
Then the realization hit him.
Magick!
