Chapter 190: Empty Space

Matthew was sleeping on the desk.

Slowly, Ava realized that this wasn’t the room at the mansion. This one was bigger, wider. And the view outside was different.

She walked towards Matthew. She was dreaming and maybe he was dreaming too. But why was she here?

She wasn’t thinking about him. She was trying to train her soul.

Or maybe she was thinking about him?

Ava continued staring at his handsome face. While sleeping, Matthew looked peaceful. His face looked calm.

She quite liked it.

She extended her arm. She wanted to touch his face. Though Matthew wouldn’t feel it.

"I miss you — " she uttered.

But just before her hand could reach his face, he opened his eyes. His pupils were golden.

Ava gasped. She jumped back, surprised at the intensity of his gaze.

Why does it feel like... he could see her?

Matthew stared at the space she was standing in for a few minutes. His eyes were steady as he slowly smiled. He opened his lips, wanting to say something.

"Matthew?"

Matthew sat back up. He turned his attention towards the woman standing by the door. Wearing a long white dress and a warm smile on her face, the woman started walking inside, but stopped her steps when Matthew growled.

"Why are you here?" he asked.

"I’ve been knocking. I— "

"Who told you to come in?"

"I — " the woman stuttered. "I’m sorry, but I was worried when you didn’t answer, so I— "

"Get out."

"But father said— "

"Matthew darling... what is this?" Another older woman walked into the room. She was wearing a red and pink maxi dress, and her long hair was neatly tied in a ponytail. The woman’s red lips lifted up as she added, "Is this how you treat the princess of the Timothy family?"

"Your Highness," Matthew got up. "I didn’t know you were coming."

The woman stood in front of Matthew and fixed his shirt. "Do I need to inform someone when I am visiting my house?"

Matthew said nothing.

"Ah... Melanie here is good at brewing tea. Let her brew you some tea."

"I don’t drink tea."

"How is that possible?" the woman laughed. "And please... you should call me mother, right?"

Matthew snorted in response. He walked past the woman and into the bookshelf next to his desk.

"I have things to attend to."

"Then how about you join your queen for some tea?" the woman smiled. "Matthew, I might not be your biological mother, but I am still the queen of this kingdom. Surely you wouldn’t decline an invitation from your queen, right?"

"Why are you here? Margery?" Matthew asked without turning his back. "Didn’t I already make it clear? I don’t want to see you."

"Please, how could we not see each other when we live in the same house?" Queen Margery Bennet Graydon stood next to Matthew. "These are your mother’s books, no?"

"Leave."

"This is your father’s order. He wanted us to — reconcile. After all, you are the future King of this Kingdom. Isn’t it time that you at least hear my side of the story?"

"I don’t need it."

"Darling— "

"Don’t." Matthew looked at her, his eyes turned gold. Hearing this, the woman gasped.

"How could you threaten your own Queen?" The woman used her hand to cover her mouth, then she chuckled. The fear in her eyes vanished. "Did you expect me to say that?" Her sly eyes focused on Matthew. "I just told you, didn’t I? Your father wanted you to interact with your future mistresses. You are supposed to at least have a decent relationship with them, Matthew. You can’t just marry someone without even— "

**BANG!**

The three people inside the room turned towards the large frame that fell on the floor. The large piece of painting that once hung on top of the fireplace shattered.

"What was that?" the queen gasped. This time, she sounded surprised.

"I told you to leave, didn’t I?" Matthew turned his attention toward the books.

"Matthew— "

"Do you know what would happen if I kill that woman, Margery?" Matthew picked one of the books and opened it. "The Timothy Family would want me dead. But... can they really kill the future King of the Lycans?

"You— "

"That’s right. They cannot touch me. Unless, of course, you wanted to kill the one with the strongest bloodline, right?"

"How could you— "

"Right. You might be the Queen, but you can’t really touch me, right? Unless, of course, you gave birth to another child whose blood is more potent than mine."

The woman’s face turned red.

So, Matthew continued.

"But then again, you can no longer give birth, no? Isn’t that why the King had been... ah... I wonder if I should use a more vulgar term to describe what he has been doing to make another child that would obey him." Matthew snorted and turned toward Melanie. He narrowed his golden eyes at her. It didn’t take too long for the woman’s knees to shake.

She paled before she crumbled to the floor.

"Matthew, what are you doing?"

"See? You can’t even save her..." Matthew mocked. "Did you just bring her here so I could kill her? So the Timothy family would hate me?"

"You— "

Melanie stared at the Queen in disbelief.

"A King hated by his people. Isn’t that what you want? You want them to take action and kill me, then Drigo would get the throne. Isn’t that right, your majesty the queen of Lycans?"

"I— "

"Well, if you think I am as dumb as your child, then you should think again. Think hard, Margery." Matthew said. "Did you really think I came back so you could toy me around?"

Margery Graydon’s lips trembled. Her face was so red, she looked like someone who was about to explode.

"The King will hear about this."

"Oh, please...." Matthew said. "You can send him my regards. Tell him to work harder... maybe fuck someone younger and maybe... just maybe he could have another child whose blood is more powerful than mine."

"How dare you — " Margery raised her hand, intending to slap Matthew, but before she could touch him, another frame inside the floor fell and shattered. Again, the three of them stared at the empty space where the frame fell.

Then Matthew looked at a particular empty space and smiled.
