Chapter 234: Chalice and the Munik Family

"Anyway, Judging from what you told me, there is a possibility that he isn’t entirely a Lycan." Samaria continued. "He could be a demon for all we know."

"He has a wolf inside him. On one occasion, an older witch easily bound his wolf."

"Why would they do that to a future King?"

"Matthew refused to come home."

"Because of how his mother died?"

"Yes."

"Then what would happen if he knew that he might be the reason his mother is dead?"

"That is not— I don’t think that’s true. A witch cursed the previous queen. I mean... Samaria, this is different. Matthew is not a demon— Demons are the embodiment of evil. Matthew is no evil."

This time, Samaria said nothing. She stared at the crystals not away from her and closed her eyes as she silently channeled the magick from the various types of crystals. Seeing this, Baba silently watched her.

Samaria had become so old that she sometimes needed to drain the magick from the crystals to keep her awake. She had been weaker and weaker every day.

When Samaria opened her eyes, she looked considerably brighter.

"The demon that you said— the one who owned the relic. Do know if it could come in this plane?"

"Probably not. King Solomon sealed him along with seventy-one other demons. The only way to free him is to use the ring of Solomon which... had been missing for years."

"I understand." That was enough information. Baba knew the risks of coming here. There is a possibility that Samaria would forcefully control her and read her mind.

Though this wasn’t something that the old Samaria would do, Baba knew that trusting a dying witch could only give you problems. Especially if that witch had been trying to live after living for hundreds of years.

"Thank you for your help."

"Are you coming back?"

Baba met Samaria’s eyes and gave her a gentle smile. "I will let you know once the dust settles."

"I will be waiting."

"Thank you, Samaria." Baba pursed her lips then she walked out of Samaria’s abode. Without looking back, she walked out of the pub and walked towards the alley.

"You can come out now," she said. It didn’t take too long for Lita to appear just a few feet away from her.

"You didn’t steal anything this time, right?" Lita squinted at her, observing Baba from afar. It was as if she wanted to see if Baba had been hiding something beneath her coat.

"No."

"You promised not to come back, sister," Lita uttered in a low tone, and a sadistic smile appeared on her face. "What made you come back? After all these years?"

"You heard it. I had some concerns and— " Seeing the fury in Lita’s eyes, Baba sighed. "If you are worried about the next priestess of the Chalice, I can assure you, I didn’t come here for that."

"Why would I worry about that, Babaylan?" Lita sneered. "You left. Even if you wanted to come back now that Samaria is dying, there is no way that you wouldn’t receive any punishment for what you did. It was unforgivable to steal a relic. But Samaria treasured you like her real daughter. We couldn’t do anything about it as the priestess forbid us from punishing you."

Baba fought the urge to roll her eyes.

"And?" Baba asked. "Did you really follow me here because you wanted to talk about the past?"

"I came here to warn you." Lita lifted her chin. She smirked at Baba as if she was looking at an enemy instead of a woman that grew up with her. "Samaria is kind enough to pardon you from your sins because you are the guardian of the library. But the next priestess might not be as kind as her."

"You mean, you," Baba asked. Samaria only has three women, she considered as her children. Lita, the eldest. Baba, the second and most powerful among the three, and Cloris, the younger one who unfortunately passed away fifty years ago because of some accident.

"Yes. I mean, me. Babaylan." Lita said. "Just because you are the Guardian doesn’t mean that you can do everything that you want. Stealing a very important relic from a coven could grant you... a death sentence."

Baba snorted.

"Right."

"You are looking down on me," Lita said. "I am not the same as forty years ago, Babaylan. You might be — hmm— "Lita’s eyes widened when she realized that her voice vanished.

Seeing this, Baba snapped her finger again and Lita’s voice returned.

"Stop the chatter, Lita. If you want to kill me, you can go ahead and try. But let me warn you. I am no longer the second child that you like to bully all those years ago. I became the guardian because I was more powerful than you." Baba took advantage of the shock on Lita’s face as she smirked and snapped her fingers.

Then she vanished in front of Lita.

Meanwhile, Ava was sitting in a lotus position with a solemn expression on her face. She stared at the golden coin with a symbol of a moon. freewebnoveℓ.com

It was an invitation.

She bit her lower lip as she thought about the time she received the coin. It was when she defeated the person on the fifty-first floor. Since then, she had been fighting and was currently on the fifty-fifth floor. She had tried to ignore the invitation but this time, she received a second coin. They said it was from the witch who occupied the sixtieth floor.

Now... why would her future enemy want to see her?

What was the point?

They are going to fight to the death and kill each other anyway

She waved her hand on top of the coins and they disappeared. Then Ava frowned as she stared at the blank wall in front of her. Suddenly, chills ran down her spine. She looked around. For some reason, she felt like someone is staring at her but it quickly disappeared when she looked around.

Was that a hallucination?

.....

Author note: Can you guess the demon who owns the relic? I think you can. Hehehehe...
