Chapter 237: Legions

"I can let you out of here with your memories intact. Isn’t that something that you desire?"

"Why do you want the book of Lilith?" she decided to use this opportunity to inquire more about this ring. Damon wasn’t too specific and just told her some half-truths. Knowing about the ring would certainly help her.

"Demons cannot walk inside Earth. The same goes for Lilith. There is just no normal body that would be able to act as their vessel. But that book is different."

"Why?"

"It would give Lilith a way to get inside your body once you reach the surface of the Earth," Lucas said. "Now as you can imagine this would have devastating effects not only on your plane but on the others. For instance, the Celestial and Demonic Realms as well as the Spirit Realms. I could only imagine the chaos that this would bring to your kind."

Ava blinked.

"Someone told me this is a grimoire that contained the spells of the first witch."

"The first witch... " Lucas pursed his lips then he smiled. "That was... right. Lilith was indeed the first witch. But might I suggest you stop using the term ’witch’? It would only show your ignorance about the matter."

"Then what should I use? If she’s not that— "

Lucas stared at her for a few uncomfortable minutes.

"There are two types of witches in your world. One practices witchcraft, the others are Wiccans. I believe you have been using the term wrongly all this time. Wiccans are called witches while the one who practices Witchcraft are called Ancients."

"Ancients." Another version of the story about a witch’s origin. How irritating. At this point, Ava was starting to wonder why she always somehow stumbled into different versions of a witch’s origin. Was this some sort of fate?

"I don’t like your tone."

"I apologize. I just— I have heard two versions of this story and I— "

"The thing is both versions are correct. I am going to conclude that you have heard about Lilith, the mother of witchcraft and you have heard about Wiccans, the witches who received the essence of angels. But I am not here to talk about history and such. I just want the ring."

Ava stared at the snake-like ring on her finger. About seventy-five percent of her didn’t believe the man’s words, just like how she was doubting Damon’s words. At this point, history had become so muddled with narratives that would fit other people’s interests. To be honest, this is making her curious and not curious at the same time.

Does that make sense?

"I will give you time," Lucas uttered. "But I suggest you think fast. Many people are currently looking for you."

"Looking for me?"

"The demon that— you kissed."

"Kissed..." Josef?

"Have you kissed a few demons in the past few days?’ Lucas’s eyes widened.

"No. I just— "

"The demon was ill. The moment you step foot into this world, the demon fell ill and now most of his legion thinks that you are the demon’s mate. They are going to drag you back inside the Pits no matter the cost."

"Wait... are you telling me that they are here? I thought you just said that— "

"Demons cannot enter this place but humans who received the essence of any demon can," Lucas uttered. "And yes, they are looking for their future mistress."

"That’s absurd. I am no one’s mate." No one except Matthew. "I’m a witch. Witches don’t have a mate." The fact that Ava was inside this place only means she’s not a demon. Again, this begs the question about her kind.

"Are you?" Lucas smirked. "Don’t bother convincing me. You may leave my place. I am giving you a few hours to think about things. The Book of Lilith can be very powerful too. If... you wanted to conquer your world. It would certainly help you."

"You said, Lilith, could use my body if— "

"In fact, any demon can use your body. Not just Lilith. The Book would provide a portal to your body."

Ava said nothing. Damon gave her this ring. Was it possible that he knew about this beforehand? If he does... then what was his motive?

"Might I give you some advice?" Lucas said. She nodded in response.

"Grimoires are special. But it is not some delicacy that you eat. It is sacred. You cannot just accept anyone’s book and make it yours. It doesn’t work that way."

"On Earth— "

"On Earth, Lilith is not as powerful as she was inside the Pits or inside the Demonic Realm. You should keep that in mind."

Lucas waived his hand and the large door opened.

"One more thing..." Lucas called out.

"Hm?"

"You should be careful with your dreams. Someone is watching you."

"What?" Before Ava could inquire further, she felt her body float away from Lucas. She tried to control the invisible breeze that dragged her outside of the room but failed to do so.

"Once you made your decision just call my name then close your eyes."

**BANG!**

"What the hell?" Ava stared at the large door that is now closed. She watched as the door slowly turned blurry. Was that the power of the ninety-ninth floor?

"Miss?" The knight who accompanied her earlier appeared not far away from her. "Shall we go to the next stage?"

Ava looked at the knight before she shook her head. She wanted to get out of this place. At the same time, she also wanted to retain her memory. The things that she discovered inside the pits are very valuable.

But what about the ring?

She wanted to stare at the snake ring but couldn’t do it as she knew that a few people are now watching her.

"Take me to an inn," Ava said. But soon, her expression changed when she noticed a few people following her.
