Ava had an ominous feeling.
She silently spread her senses then she smirked.
So, that’s how it is.
This time, she won’t hesitate. Before anyone could approach her, Ava vanished from where she was standing. The sudden disappearance made the knight gasp. Ava appeared a few meters up, she squinted at the knight. Then she focused her attention on the direction where the others are located.
Different emotions hit her gut. Anger, lust, remorse, sadness, and guilt.
What is going on?
But this time, she had no way to even think about it. She focused used invisibility magick as she approached the knight. The man looked confused but it didn’t take too long for him to start running away from where they were at.
Ava followed the man.
Not long after, the knight went down until he reached the forty-ninth floor. Then he went into a pub and sat with another knight.
"You lost her?" the other knight uttered.
"Yes."
"Tsk. Have you made deals about her next fight?"
"Yes."
"Are you sure she’s not suspecting you?"
"Of course, not. I didn’t do anything. I was just following her orders."
The other knight clicked his tongue and finished his beer "You have to make sure that she is weak once she got into that stage or else..."
"I know Vantik! I already spent the money that you gave me. I had no way of paying you back. Don’t worry, I will give her that drink."
"Then what are you waiting for? Find her. She should be in another inn or something."
Hearing this, Ava’s knight nodded and left the pub. This time, Ava didn’t follow the man. Instead, he waited for the other knight to go to whoever gave him this mission. After a few more drinks, the knight finally left the pub and went to the twentieth floor.
Which only made Ava wonder who was it that was paying the man. Did she offend anyone from the twentieth floor?
No. She was in a rush and couldn’t even remember going out of the arena to rest. She just went straight to the next floor.
"How was it?"
Ava lifted an eyebrow when she heard a familiar voice inside the room where Vantik went. She watched as Vantik go inside the room but was unable to follow him because he immediately closed the door behind him. But this isn’t really a problem. Ava used magick to go inside the room. By the time she was in, Vantik was already sitting at the table with Alexandra staring out of the window.
"Is she dead yet?"
Alexandra.
The fucking traitor!
Ava gritted her teeth in silence as she positioned herself far away from the two of them.
The room isn’t exactly big but it was complete with a bed, a small seating with table and chairs and even a small bathroom. This must be expensive.
"Unfortunately, she received an invite from someone on the ninety-ninth floor and it delayed her next fight. However, I can assure you that the poison will be in her system before the next fight."
"And she won’t suspect a thing?"
"Even powerful witches cannot sense the poison." The man named Vantik confidently smiled. "The poison was made by a warlock that lived at the edge of this plane. He only makes poisonous and undetectable ones. I can assure you, it was all worth it."
Alexandra clicked her tongue then she gestured for the man to leave her room. Valk nodded and silently left.
"Bitch!" Alex hissed. She closed her windows using her magick before sitting down on the bed. An annoyed expression can be seen on her face.
"You look angry."
Alex jumped out of the bed, her gaze immediately turned alert.
"You— You— How did you get in?" Alex stammered when Ava revealed herself. She took a couple of steps back, rage and confusion filled her eyes.
"I already knew that the Duke would send someone like you in to get me but I didn’t think he would want me dead."
"You bitch! What have you done to the Duke? How dare you use your potion to poison him!"
"Poison? I thought Poisons doesn’t work on demons?" Ava lifted an eyebrow. Does this mean that Lucas’s words were right? Josef fell ill.
"The others think that you are his mate and the separation made him sick," A sadistic smile appeared on Alex’s face. "But you know what I think? I think you found a way to poison the Duke."
"That’s a smart assumption." Ava smiled. "Except, I had no time to make a poison or way to get the ingredients."
"You— "
"What happened to your Duke has nothing to do with me. Maybe you should ask Damon about it. Maybe he will give you an answer."
"Shut up."
"What? You look like you have eaten a cow’s dung?"
"You— "
"Did I just remind you of the betrayal?" Ava smiled. "You know... I would love to talk to you but your minions are already on their way."
"How did you— " Alex’s eyes widened.
"You are one ruthless witch Alexandra. And you wanted me dead. But you didn’t do anything because you knew that the others are on their way. The Duke wanted me alive. So, you won’t dare kill me using your very own hands." Ava’s smile turned wider. "But I am different."
Ava flicked her hand and black smoke wrapped around Alex’s body.
"You— What are you doing!?"
"Punishing a traitor?" Ava said and watched as the smoke made its way into Alex’s breast and into her neck and her nose. She didn’t wait for Alex to say another word. She could prolong this one but the others would catch up to her and surely try to imprison her. Ava didn’t know what method are they going to use but she was not about to take that risk.
"Lucas!" Ava said as she closed her eyes.
Then she felt an invisible force hit her body.
The next thing she knew, she was already back inside the room where she met the mysterious Lucas.
