The Sun and the Moon?
Margery almost couldn’t believe what she heard. She looked at the King who seemed to be enjoying talking to Ava. Then she continued smiling at Ava without saying another word.
"Very well... why don’t you follow Priestess Ulva into your room. Take some time to rest. I am sure the journey must have been taxing."
"Thank you very much, your majesty." Ava bowed and left the room.
"That wasn’t what I expected," Margery immediately blurted out when Ava left.
"What is it that you expected?"
"She’s young. Our presence should have been enough to fluster her."
"She used to work with Trillium. Have you seen her past deeds?"
"I have," Margery nodded.
"Then, that should explain everything. The woman had been through a lot."
"Still, we are Royalties. It is expected that— "
"Margery my love you should stop expecting too much from people. I would rather see you smile and enjoy everything than being disappointed."
Margery’s eyes twitched. Still, she managed to maintain the smile on her face.
"Thank you."
"You don’t look too well?" The King looked at her, concern written all over his face.
"No. I— Drigo is about to be named your successor and I have been with her doing all the preparations."
"Are you still stressing about who to be invited?" The King got up and held his hand towards her. Margery smiled as she put his hand on the King’s palm. Then, they started walking towards the door that would lead them to a large balcony with a view of the plaza. It is mainly used when there are special events.
"Yes. As you know— "
"You don’t have to think about the politics, my love. Let me take care of that." The King was always gentle when it comes to Margery. And Margery was very thankful to have a mate like this. They walked towards the balcony and stare at the large plaza bustling. Aside from the servants and guards, there was no one else walking on the plaza.
This was mainly because this place was located in a different pocket realm. While ordinary humans could see the castle, they wouldn’t be able to see the people living inside this place. Margery believed that a normal human would call this place... an enchanted castle.
"Trillium and the different priestesses and priests of some covens are considered enough. How could you invite those people too?" Margery asked. Though, she understood that the King only wanted to make the event as grand as possible. Inviting a few heads of the covens and the head of Trillium should have been enough. How could he invite some people from KEEPERS and even that notorious man?
Humans, Demons, and Vampires have no place in this Kingdom!
"Stop worrying about that. As I said, all you need to do is make sure that Drigo is ready for the succession ceremony."
Margery smiled in response.
"Is there still something in your mind?" The King asked.
"Matthew."
"What about him?"
"I am wondering where he is. Is he safe? Even though he attacked me out of nowhere, I still wouldn’t want to see him hurt."
This time, the King said nothing. He stared at the skies and let out a sigh. "I am tired. I am going to rest in my rooms."
"Alright. I will see you tonight for dinner." Margery said as she leaned forward and kissed her husband’s cheek. Then she left the King alone. Of course, she understood that the King really wanted Matthew to become the next heir. So, when Margery told him that Matthew turned into a wolf and had rampaged, killing another witch and Lycan, the King was understandably brokenhearted.
In fact, it was clear that the King started to blame himself for what happened.
He must have blamed himself for not forcing Matthew to sleep with another woman to help his body. If he forced Matthew to find a woman, his wolf couldn’t have overpowered his body.
Unbeknownst to her, the King’s thoughts were completely different. The moment Margery closed the door, the King’s sad expression changed. He walked towards the door that would lead him to his private study and looked at his collection of old expensive whiskey. Then he grabbed one, pour himself a glass, and walked to his chair located behind the wooden table.
"Are you here?" he asked in a low voice.
"Yes, your majesty."
"How was she?" The King looked at Ulva.
"Arrogant and Naive."
"You cannot touch her until she reveals what she knew about Matthew or unless you found out if she really had someone behind her. Have you done all the preparations?"
"Yes. Tonight... she is going to tell us everything that she knew. She would also answer our questions. No matter what it was."
"Good."
"Queen Luna seems to have a different motive," Ulva commented.
"She wanted her son to become King. Every mother would want their son to have the world. It was pretty understandable." When Ulva said nothing, the King looked at her. "Say it."
"Your majesty, I believe Queen Luna is suspecting something."
"Something?"
"Please forgive me for speaking my mind but... I believe she is starting to suspect she was not really your majesty’s mate."
"And why would she think that?" For a few seconds, Ulva hesitated. "Answer me!" The King hissed.
"Well... your majesty’s treatment towards her has drastically changed since we discovered that his highness Matthew had better chances of having the perfect body for his majesty."
"Tsk." The King clicked his tongue. "And whose fault do you think it was?"
"I— It was my fault." Ulva kneeled and hit her forehead on the carpeted floor. "I picked the wrong woman. Please punish me for being weak and stupid."
The King squinted at Ulva.
"You will receive your punishment after tonight. For now... take care of Ava. We need her to tell us everything before the ceremony."
Ulva got up but didn’t lift her gaze towards the King.
"I understand."
"Alright. Go and talk to the Queen. Make her feel better. Find a way to lessen her suspicion. This body is dying. We cannot stay here... anymore."
