Chapter 285: A Truce

"I was expecting that you would leave," Matthew said when he saw her. "And not come back."

Ava said nothing. She walked towards the bra and grabbed some whiskey enough to drown her. "You were right to expect something that like," she said as she walked back towards the chair near the fireplace. She sat down and stared at Matthew.

"What now?" she asked.

"I am giving you a choice."

"A choice?" Ava asked.

"Marry me."

"I can’t do that."

"We are mates."

"Bullshit."

"In the past and the future— "

"Did you actually expect me to accept you after you stole Matthew’s body?" She got up and was about to get some refills but decided to grab the whole bottle of whiskey instead. However, Matthew was quick to block her way.

"Move," she hissed.

"Showing your fangs... eh?"

"I am going to find a way to get you out of Matthew’s body."

Matthew only leaned closer to her. She leaned back and glared at him.

"What are you doing?" she asked when she sensed an invisible suffocating pressure that seemed too wrapped around her.

The thing is... no matter how much she tried to pretend that she was furious, she couldn’t show it in front of Matthew’s face— her Matthew’s face. Seeing him like this. Too similar yet different was affecting her reasoning. Ava felt like she couldn’t actually blame anyone in this situation. Anyone but fate, that is.

Damnit, Matthew!

She cursed inwardly.

Then Baba’s question echoed inside her head.

Matthew and Josef are one. Half a demon and half a Lycan.

Was she going to abandon him just because he was no longer the Matthew that she knew?

Was she going to leave and refuse to stand by his side when the world knows what he truly was?

"I propose a truce," Matthew was smiling. Clearly, he was enjoying her discomfort.

"A truce?"

"Once the world of supernatural knows about me they would do everything in their power to kill me."

Ava gulped. ƒree𝑤ebnσvel-com

If the supernatural world knows that a demon was currently residing inside Matthew’s body, they would surely kill him, erase him and make sure that the demon is going back to where he came from.

"Tell me more?" Ava asked.

"Time."

"Time?"

"Give me the time to prove that I am still the Matthew that you knew."

"That won’t— "

"We are one. Give us the chance to show it to you."

Ava pursed her lips.

"Matthew wanted to claim his throne for you. He wanted power. He wanted to be able to stand proud with you by his side. That was one reason why he came here."

"Is there any other reason?" she asked.

"He wanted to know more about the King and his maternal family."

"Maternal— " Ava recalled how Matthew told her that his grandmother loved to collect books that were too expensive. Books that she couldn’t even read. After that, he never talked about his maternal family again. "Are they still— "

"No. Unfortunately, they were one of the families whose blood became so impure, they slowly became humans and die. Right now, I am the only surviving Lycan in their bloodline."

"And?"

"And third is the King."

"The King?"

"He wanted to find out why the King wanted to name him as the next heir and was more concern about Matthew’s bloodline than other issues outside of this small little place."

"Are there more?"

Matthew smirked in response. "I would tell you," he said. "But you have to kiss me."

Ava frowned. Then she took a step back.

Seeing this, Matthew chuckled.

"You claimed that Matthew wanted to be King because of me. However, you told Ulva that you don’t care about the throne. Which one is it?"

"I don’t need to be the Lycan King to have power," Matthew said. Finally, he took a step back, easing the pressure that he unconsciously released earlier. "The only reason why I stayed here is because of you and because I still needed to align what I know to the words that were written in the history since I left. This place is trash."

"Trash," Ava snorted. "Right."

"This is currently the safest place for me to be in. This place is in a secret plane and I would sense everyone who gets in and out of this place. My enemies wouldn’t be able to find me."

"Enemies?"

"Did you really think that I stayed in the pits for a thousand years because I chose to?"

"A— A thousand years? Then how old are you?"

He stared at her then smiled. "I would tell you... if you kiss me."

"Asshole!"

Ava scowled. Matthew was making fun of her.

"You know... I was never a fan of age gap movies." Ava said.

"Don’t worry, I am going to change your mind."

She rolled her eyes in response. To her surprise, Matthew suddenly pulled her into his arms. Without saying a word, he wrapped his arms around her body and kissed her.

She immediately tried to push him but how could she overpower a fucking demon in a Lycan’s body?

"Play along," Matthew whispered in between the kisses.

As if on cue, the door burst open.

A few surprise gasps filled the room.

"Matthew what are you doing!?"

Matthew finally let go of Ava, allowing Ava to see who just barged into the room without even knocking.

It was none other than the King with the Queen and Drigo and a few witches including Ulva.

"Father... fancy seeing you in my own room inside my own palace," Matthew said. "Would like some tea? Wine? Unfortunately, I don’t have the coffee that you liked. You see, I had to throw that coffee away and replaced it with what Ava liked."

Silence permeated inside the room. The situation was currently awkward as hell and it looked like Matthew didn’t really care. Seeing their discomfort only made Matthew smirk.

Eyes brimming with arrogance and mischief, Matthew beamed at them.

"So what brings everyone to my... simple abode?"
