Chapter 313: The Bee and her Fiance

Ava looked back and sighed when she realized Francheska was still following her like a small bee. It’s not because she looked like a bee, but it was because of how it sounded like she was buzzing around her.

The woman was very talkative, to say the least.

And curious.

Yes... very curious.

She had been asking Ava about the outside world. The Werewolves, the other shifters and witches. Even the other countries that Ava had been to.

Of course, Ava had patiently answered everything.

"As I was saying... there is this cafe in France that I always visit when I had the chance to go out. They serve the best croissant and oh my god! You should try their— "

Ava blinked and nodded. After a few hours, she realized that she actually started to hear a buzzing noise from all the chatter. It wasn’t a wonderful noise, but a chatter is better than talking about Leonardo de Caprio which was someone that Francheska had seen in Paris once and is apparently her crush. freeweɓnovēl.coɱ

How could a twenty-eight-year-old woman act like this?

The answer was quite simple.

Francheska grew up in this boring place with nothing but her library and her mother who was sick for a long time before finally dying. Her brother and sisters don’t really talk to her and the only thing that she found entertaining were the books about Earth.

"Have you heard of a manga?" Francheska asked.

"Yes. Of course."

"Well, I read Conan, and I thought it was pretty interesting. The next thing I knew, I already spent a whole day reading the comic! It was fantastic! Good thing we have the first edition of all those Japanese manga. I honestly thought it was fun! You should try it!"

"I — I would love that," Ava said. Of course, the statement was something that she immediately regretted as Francheska excitedly drag her towards her library that was actually a really enormous building or a palace or maybe a mansion?

Ava was sure the library was something out of a horror movie or something.

"You spend your time reading in this place?" Ava walked in and observe the tall ceilings which helped with the natural light. Windows that are too tall for a human to reach surrounded this place. Her eyes were soon attracted to the spiral stairs leading up.

"How many floors are there in this library?" Ava asked.

"Seven and counting and yes... I spend my time reading alone in this place."

Well, now Ava wasn’t wondering why Francheska didn’t want to get married. Books, coffee and rain are the perfect combination, especially in a place like this.

"Follow me... I will show you— "

"Ah, I always knew you would come here." A man’s voice interrupted them. Ava immediately looked at the man who had walked into the library. Since he was standing against the light, Ava took a few minutes to see his features.

Tall, broad shoulders and thin waist. He had brown, tussled hair and a gentle smile on his face.

"Why are you here?"

"Now, what kind of question is that, Princess?"

"I told you not to see me again!" Francheska said. Her change from noisy and bubbly to sad and stern was very noticeable.

"I came here because I wanted to see my fiance. Is that something forbidden?"

"I am not your fiance! Leave this place at once!"

"Princess... we have been engaged since you were ten. How could you deny something that your father made with my father?"

"It wasn’t a valid engagement, and you, sir, is already a married man. If you think I would marry someone who already married another woman, then you are delusional! Leave before I forget that you are a noble."

The man sneered, and side eyed Ava.

"You sound especially feisty today. Was it because of this witch?"

"That is none of your business..." Francheska suddenly grabbed the man’s wrist and started pulling him out of the door. "You have no right to visit me. That deal was not valid at all! How dare you show yourself after marrying someone else just two months ago?"

"Calm down... I know I owe you an explanation."

"Explanation?" The rest of Francheska’s words soon became lower and lower as she walked with the man farther and farther away from where Ava was standing.

Ava frowned. She thought of staying by the door and waiting for Francheska, but it sounded that whatever explanation it was would take some time. So, she started looking at the books near her.

Almost immediately, she noticed the books were all first editions.

Jeremy Bentham’s The Principles of Morals and Legislation and Panopticon; Or, the Inspection-House were all in excellent condition and even had Mr. Bentham’s signature!

Ava blinked, then she smiled.

Isn’t this an amazing place?

"The books in this place were maintained by Magick," another woman’s voice interrupted her stupor. She looked back and realized it was a witch with long, braided hair. "I am working in this place. I helped clean it and maintain the books, make sure that they are in their pristine condition. Do you need my help with something?"

"Yes." Ava said. "I need books about supernaturals."

"Supernaturals?" the woman lifted an eyebrow. "Most witches would want to see the spells and ancient parcels. Your request is different." The woman turned her heel and started walking towards the stairs. When Ava didn’t follow her, she looked back and smiled. "We usually keep them at the uppermost floor."

Ava nodded and follow the woman until they reached the highest floor. Then the woman led her towards the corner most shelf. "These two shelves are about all the supernaturals ever recorded. If you are looking for more specific, then I suggest you find a way to visit the library of knowledge. However, I can assure you that the information that we have would be enough to satiate a normal witch’s curiosity." The woman smiled at her. "Come down when you are done."

With that, the woman left her there alone.

Just as Ava started walking towards one of the shelf, she suddenly felt a presence behind her. She frowned. But before she could do anything, she felt large arms wrapped around her body.

"I missed you."

It was Matthew.

I was supposed to have a splash banner today but they didn’t give me one. Sorry, I just had to complain. T.T
