Chapter 321: Antipasto Skewers

After Ava told them what she knew, she answered a few questions and then went back to her seat. It was quite anticlimactic, but she only did it to make it look like Matthew was so concerned about this whole thing that he asked her to talk about some issues that they were facing now. Clearly, she’s just doing it for Matthew.

And yet he just keeps on tricking her!

While she was complaining inwardly, she was all smiles as she told everyone that Matthew’s goal was to help the werewolves lessen the presence of rogues who had been endangering their kind to the humans.

After Ava spoke, Ulva and another Werewolf took over. This time the discussion focused on the rogues and how they had been killing humans in the past twenty years and seemed to have created their own organization that aimed to kill all the shifters.

Ava listened carefully until the conference ended for lunch.

It was boring.

That was the only thing that Ava had in her mind. So, she chose to focus on the food instead.

The food was actually very good. It was definitely something worth sitting down for hours and listening to boring discussions. She grabbed another one of the Antipasto skewers in front of her. It was an appetizer that everyone should eat before they die.

Made of cheese and a platter of cured meats and mushrooms, this food is definitely one of Ava’s favorites. She finished it and then grabbed another one.

"So unladylike..."

Ava turned and looked at none other than the Alpha who fell into her trap. Alpha Justin York.

Seeing the dark gaze on his face, Ava shrugged and stared at the food instead. Who wants to stare at such a brooding face instead of the colorful and flavorful food in front of her?

"And disrespectful."

She heard him say.

He stood next to her and got himself one of the skewered appetizers.

"You are spoiling the food," Ava said before she got herself another skewer. Appetizers needed to be enjoyed. Ava wasn’t being greedy, she was just doing her part to appreciate whoever it was who made them!

She side-eyed him and realized he didn’t eat his meat. Instead, he just stared at her as if he was deliberating if he is going to strangle her to death or use the skewer on her.

"I killed one of Ulva’s apprentices," Justin stated.

Again, Ava shrugged.

"Because of you," Justin said. "Whatever you did... I will make sure to pay you. Double. No triple it."

"Question..." Ava finished the meat in her mouth before she grabbed some red wine. "Does werewolf bark? I mean... I meant no disrespect but your bark is quite loud. Noisy. It completely ruined my mood."

Seeing the man’s face turn from red to purple from too much anger was quite enjoyable.

She blinked her eyes like an innocent cat then smiled.

"What were you trying to tell me again? I mean... I was too focused on the meat, I completely ignored the others who don’t look as appetizing."

"Sharp tongue. I wonder what you would do once I cut it off," he hissed, his face completely red as if he was some tomato. This made Ava smile.

"You really think I would let you use me, Mr. York?" This time, Ava’s face turned serious. She slowly moved the glass in her hand, swirling it and staring at the blood-like liquid inside it. "Wolves and their tendency to look down on everyone else."

"It was Ulva who told me that— "

"Then you should blame her for using you. Why are you blaming me for fighting back? I mean... I knew your bark is pretty loud. I didn’t know your brain is pretty small too."

"You— "

"She used you to try to humiliate me and when I tried to fight back, it was somehow my fault? Really?" she sneered. "I haven’t heard of that level of stupidity in the past."

"Tsk. You really are difficult to talk to."

"Only to the people that I don’t like."

"Then you better watch your back," Justin said. "I heard you are going to take care of the rogues. It would be devastating if you suddenly fail your mission, right?"

"Devastating? Do you really think we care about that?" Matthew was just using this opportunity to get something from the Lycans. He was trying to prolong their stay on this plane! That’s it!

Who cares about the werewolves?

Definitely not her!

"Excuse me."

The two of them looked at the older man.

"I apologize for interrupting the two of you. Let me introduce myself. I am Randal Kodan, the Alpha of the Crimsontooth manes. I have heard that his highness Matthew is going to help us with the rogues. Do you think it’s possible if I talk to him in person before he decides which pack he is going to visit first?"

Crimsontooth manes

Ava heard about the pack before. From the news, she knew that this pack suffered a great loss from a recent rogue attack. The pack was located near Washington. If she was right, they live near Portland.

They were attacked by rogues and when Alpha Justin and his men arrived, it was already too late.

Crimsontooth manes lost more than half of their fighters.

"Randal, I thought we already talked about this?"

"Alpha York, my apologies but I would like to talk to his highness Matthew first. This has something to do with the safety of my pack. I hope it does not offend you."

"Didn’t I tell you that I would protect your pack?"

"You said the same thing before the attack." Alpha Randal said. "And no. I am not blaming you for what happened. However, this is already an opportunity for my pack to have some protection from the rogues. We are currently in a very vulnerable spot. I really hope you understand."

"Tsk! Do what you want. Just remember... your pack..."

"Will be protected by Alpha Justin’s people," Ava said. "Unless, of course, they want you and your people to die from a second attack. As one of the largest packs in the US, I think Alpha Justin has the responsibility to help. Or am I... wrong Alpha Justin?"
