"Bitch!"
Alpha Justin York could only let his anger out inside his room.
"Ava Woods was it?" he opened a bottle of whiskey and drank straight from the bottle. "You will regret messing with me!"
"Alpha York, please calm down. Right now, we needed to find solutions. By now, Randal must have already told Miss Woods everything including the fact that we let them pay us to protect them."
The five top Packs are naturally stronger than the others. They aren’t just on top because of their strength but also because of their number and wealth. They have more than a hundred people in their pack and they managed both local businesses and international ones.
Aside from this, they also have another source of income such as the money that they receive from smaller packs as payment for the protection that the top packs provide them.
Still, mistakes happened.
One of those terrible mistakes was when the top pack cannot defend against the rogues. An attack could kill tens of werewolves. It would be a devastating loss for a small pack like Randal’s.
"Tsk..." Justin’s face got darker and darker. "Accidents do happen but... "But the thing that happened with Randal’s pack wasn’t an accident at all. He thought of Ava’s smug face when she basically forced him to say that he is going to protect Crimsontooth manes in front of the other Alphas and was instantly infuriated.
That woman will die by his own hands.
"Alpha York, I think we need to approach this using logic," the man who spoke was actually the most respected man in their group. He is the Alpha of the Dark moon Pack and is considered the strongest and maybe even the most influential Alpha in the US because of his wealth and connections both in the country and abroad.
"I have made a lot of research about his highness Matthew and I discovered some interesting things. The man was the dark horse of the Lycan family. Right now, we don’t know the exact details but it looked like he is fighting against Prince Drigo for the succession."
"Prince Drigo is the first son and the oldest among the— "
"That might not be the case," the old man interrupted him. "I cannot confirm some rumors but they are everywhere. After all, the walls have ears."
"What does the rumor say?" another Alpha asked. The second conference was already done and right now, they were staying inside Alpha Justin’s room, talking about their next move.
"That Prince Matthew is stronger than Prince Drigo."
"Are you telling the truth?"
"Again, these were all rumors. I have no way of confirming this without offending anyone. But there is no smoke without a fire," Alpha Smithson of the Dark Moon Pack spoke. "Let us not underestimate the Lycans. They had been living in hiding for years. There must be a reason why they agreed to let us in this place."
"Or maybe they just wanted to find a way to plant spies among, us." Another one said.
"That might be true."
"Then what are we going to do?"
Alpha Smithson suddenly smiled. "Actually, I think I have an idea."
"What is it?"
"Right now... they think the Hybrids are more problematic with the rogues. They are not taking us seriously and thought it would be good to send us a prince who can’t even bother to meet us. Why don’t we... show them how dangerous rogues can be?"
A thick suffocating silence filled the room.

Meanwhile, Ava was frowning when she heard Mr. Randal Kodan’s story. She stared at the older man before shifting her gaze towards her coffee. freeweɓnovēl.coɱ
Ava was well aware that she was not a good person. She had done a lot of atrocities in the past and has ended a huge number of lives. But for some reason, hearing about children being slaughtered always made her uncomfortable.
"So, you are telling me that Alpha York and the rest accept money from smaller packs as payment for protection?" Ava repeated what she just heard before the old man told her about the latest attack.
"Yes."
"And they wanted a yearly increase and when you refuse it ... rogues would immediately attack your packs?" Ava asked.
"Yes."
"I mean..." Ava understood the payment part. But to let rogues attack everyone the pack refused to increase the pay is a bit too much. The Alpha just informed her that this didn’t just happen in their pack but in the other smaller packs as well who would take a long time to pay an increase for their annual payment.
"Our packs are not big. We usually take care of younger werewolves that had been abandoned all over the world. We have small businesses and lands. We cannot afford two hundred thousand per year. That— that is too much!"
According to Mr. Kodan, his business was a restaurant which doesn’t really earn that big and just gives him and his pack enough money to survive. How are they going to pay two hundred thousand USD a year?
Ava pursed her lips.
"Do you have proof that the rogues that attacked you were working for them?’ Ava asked.
"Unfortunately, I cannot prove it. However, how could something like this be a coincidence?" the old man handed her a piece of paper filled with dates and... "Names of the packs and dates that they were attacked as well as the dates when they asked Alpha York for some extension as they are struggling because of the recent problems in our country. You can verify the information and you can even let me drink a truth serum to confirm my words.
Alpha Kodan’s face was flushed as he met Ava’s curious gaze.
"I am willing to swear on my life. Alpha York and the other big packs are working with the rogues!" the old man declared. "And I really hope that this would reach the Prince’s ears."
"It will," Ava nodded, assuring him. "While waiting for the prince, I will do my own investigation. I will let you know the result when his highness is back."
